Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

Historic heist story masterminded by women who are mostly implausibly related. Some clever details but didn’t quite hold together for me sorry

Really enjoyed this book - an old fashioned heist by a bunch of women! Loved the characters and all the plot is a bit far fetched it worked really well. Definitely recommend it - thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy.

This story has it all. On the surface it is a heist of a posh house after the housekepper is dismissed but it is so much more. The characters are well written the pacing is perfect. Its a real pace turner hooked in by the story uou want to find out how it ends. Characters are well written lots of twists and turns.
Solid 5 star highly recommended

An Outrageous Heist
A group of women plan and execute a bold and daring theft - the entire contents of a house whilst a masquerade party is in progress. An interesting story with the characters having secrets and ulterior motives.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Oh, my word! What a brilliant story, and so many twists and turns to keep you hooked! I can’t say much more without spoiling the plot for everyone, but it felt like a mash up between a film along the lines of Oceans 11, and a society drama like Downton Abbey.

This description alone had me immediately interested.
“UPSTAIRS, MADAM IS PLANNING THE PARTY OF THE SEASON. DOWNSTAIRS, THE SERVANTS ARE PLOTTING THE HEIST OF THE CENTURY.”

I enjoyed this so much that I’m going to buy it when it comes out to read again.

Thank you to #NetGalley for the chance to read #TheHousekeepers before it is released.

A historical heist that is fun and pacy. I wasn't convinced about all the sub plots and I wanted to see more of the actual heist in motion. Possibly too many characters to keep up with and too long a build up and then slightly rushed at the end. Having said that I loved the whole concept, the historical scene setting, the notion of these women taking back what was rightfully theirs and the general absurdity and brazenness of their scheme - and once i got into it i didn't put it down til I had finished. I'm certain this will have been picked up for the screen - it will translate brilliantly to tv/film.

This is my first novel by Alex Hay and a completely different genre to what I normally read. The blurb sounded really interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

We meet main character Mrs King and she makes for a very interesting character indeed. She has recently been fired from her job as a housekeeper and she is not happy about this and is hell-bent on revenge.

Mrs King is a strong woman and I enjoyed reading about her very much. She decide to steal anything and everything from the home that she has been fired from and she sets to work putting her plan into action.

I was gripped reading this book, super intriguing, fun at parts and the characters are vivacious and likeable. A great novel, with a fantastic plot that will keep any avid reader gripped right from the first page.

Thanks to Netgalley, Alex Hay and the publishers for allowing me a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this totally over the top heist story. Lovely snappy writing and some truly great characters. It just kept me interested and reading as the plot unfolded and the plan started being actioned. Brilliant fun!

Downton Abbey meets Fingersmith via Ocean's Eleven!

The Housekeepers is a fantastic concept for a story and a different twist to an historical novel, one that I really enjoyed!

Mrs King is the housekeeper for William des Vries, a wealthy man living in the heart of Edwardian Mayfair. Or she was until the butler found her in the men's quarters after hours... Cast out, Mrs King calls in all the favours she's owed to pull off the biggest revenge heist that could possibly be imagined - stealing the entire contents of one of the grandest houses on Park Lane during a ball!

I was quickly pulled into the story and eager to find out just how Mrs King was to pull off her daring scheme (one of those books that you can't wait to read on your lunch break!). There is a range of interesting female characters alongside Mrs King, including a seamstress dreaming of a better life; a down on her luck black-market queen out to settle scores of her own and an actress looking to take on the biggest role of her life. There is also the character of Miss van Dries who is grieving the death of her father but is also making secret plans of her own...

Whilst the supporting cast are all playing their roles well, I felt that I couldn't properly connect with any of the characters as their sub-plots draw focus away from Mrs King and her motivations for the heist. This is a shame because any one of them has potential to be a main character as they all felt very convincing. I thought that "the two Janes" were really intriguing and would have loved to spend more time with them and discovering their backstory (thieves that can perform on the trapeze - what a novelty!).

Having said that, the book is really good fun and I loved reading it! Would be just the thing to read on a sun lounger this summer.

The Housekeepers Alex Hay
What have Mrs Bone, Mrs King, Alice and Ms De Vries have in common and what is the secret Mrs King is trying desperately to find.

After Mrs King is fired from her housekeeping job she is determined to get revenge and a very elaborate plan is conceived to steal everything from her employers house on the night of an extremely over the top masquerade ball. There is also a darkness over the house concerning missing housemaids that only comes to light later in the book which adds a level of malevolence to the story.

I loved this book it was highly imaginative and drew chaotic colourful images in your mind especially as the masquerade & heist were taking place. The interplay between Mrs Bone and Mrs King and the back story to everything that happened, and why it happened was great fun to read. I loved the characters of Mrs King, Mrs Bone, Hepzibah and Winnie. The whole book was entertaining and immediately grabbed my interest and I could not put it down.

Thank you to Netgalley for a preview copy.

delicious! it's hard to pull off a heist in a book, i think it's such a visual-dependent situation, but this was fun! i'm impressed.

Oooh I do love a woman scorned and out for revenge! It’s a well paced, entertaining debut. The characters are well formed to match the storyline and I shan’t be forgetting them in a hurry. Think Oceans 11 with a historical twist!

Great Heist Novel.

Think Oceans Eleven with aprons!

After the death of the master of the house, the former housekeeper plans an elaborate heist to rob the house of all it's content!

{AD|GIFTED} I appreciate historical fiction that captures the atmosphere of a period, the smells, sights and sounds that conjure a specific time for the reader. The Housekeepers certainly does this successfully, evoking London in 1905 in all its decadence and excess. However, there's a rotten layer of corruption underpinning the wealth and glamour. Fortunes are built on the backs of the less fortunate and this story is no exception.

The comparison to Downton Abbey x Ocean's 8 is right on the nose for this one. I loved the idea of a group of lower-class and working women planning an audacious heist to settle old scores. The women are full of gumption, although I feel like I only really got to know Mrs Bone. For some reason, I didn't connect fully with the other characters but perhaps that was simply because this is a more plot-driven narrative. TV rights have been optioned and I think a TV adaptation would actually capture the scope and guts of the story better than a book.

The Housekeepers is a fast-paced and intriguing heist thriller populated by a fierce cast of female characters.

A heist engineered by the staff of an early 20th century manor house. The heist goes on while the party of the season is going on. Completely ridiculous.

You really must read this book. Upstairs, Downstairs flavour but added to that a woman scorned and out for revenge. The novel rattles along at a great pace. I will look out for more books from this entertaining and talented author.

Even before I started reading this book, I was hooked by the blurb! Happily, the book didn't disappoint. I was intrigued by Mrs King and her merry band of misfits from the start. A thoroughly enjoyable read leading to a very satisfying end. Happily recommend!

A really enjoyable tale of a daring robbery on a Park Lane house in early 20th C. The gang are women - including former and present servants - and are all capable of being invisible to those “upstairs”. Rivalries, grievances and sheer need drive the gang to a riotous ending.

Great fun and highly enjoyable ‘heist’ book, set in a mansion in London. The ‘downstairs’ characters are fabulous, while the upstairs ones are unpredictable. Couldn’t put it down.

I enjoyed this heist novel set in 1905 and undertaken by a disparate group of ladies. It had good pace although I found it hard to connect with the characters. Many thanks to Netgalley for an arc of this book.
