This was a good book even though it seemed like there was so much going on. So many characters. I did have a hard time following this book. I still would recommend this book.
First things first, this story is set in the iconic Pink city of India, Jaipur. Finley is working on a feature story for her travel magazine - tribal arts of India. First Jharkhand, then a short stop at Delhi to meet the other three of Four Musketeers, and finally, Jaipur.
The mystery behind the murder - which happens in the second half of the book takes a back seat while Finley's personal life (love life, that is) steals the spotlight. Yes, this side story had a good ending but it certainly stole a lot of 'screen space'!! The mystery was so-so. Not all that great when compared to the previous installments of this series.
In the first half of the story, the Four Musketeers (Whitt and her beau David, Finley and her boyfriend Max) have quite a blast touring Jaipur and having some delicious food -parathas, dal baati churma, ghevar...slurp!!
This read was nothing short of a virtual tour of Jaipur. Excellent writing and character portrayal. The only niggle I have with this story is that the mystery took a backseat. Hopefully, things get better in the next installment.
3.5/5
I was just blown away by everything in this book and need to read more by this author. Needless to say I am an instant huge fan!
Boring….took half the book before there was a crime/case to so,ve. Didn’t care about Max’s stupidity, or the relationships AT ALL. I skimmed it fast, and didn’t enjoy it at all.

Thanks to @netgalley for providing me with an arc
‘Murder with a Twist’ was one of the first books I have read in the genre of travel mysteries and it turns out I like them! It probably helped that I love the country in which this one is set, India and I have also visited the Golden Triangle so it was very easy for me to visualise the location and feel of the book! As I was new to this type of book I was surprised by how much the mystery aspect of it equals the description of the places and buildings. But it was an interesting combination and one I would be be interested in reading more of! This is the first book by this author that I have read and I will definitely be up for reading more in the series.
A murder mystery with two leading ladies set in India sounded like just my thing! Well-written, Carter Fielding builds the characters but I found the mystery lacking. There is certainly tension as the cast tries to fathom the motive and opportunity behind the death but it felt more like a suspense, there aren’t many clues to fathom. The descriptions of the landscapes and art are beautiful. A large portion of the book is dedicated to the unhappy relationship between Finley and Max and the theme of emotional abuse and control is beneath the surface for most of the time which tipped the style towards a romance (not my cup of tea). It’s a three out of five for this mystery reader but if you enjoy romance and suspense, this one may be for you!
I received a complimentary copy of the book from BooksGoSocial through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Murder with a Twist was lots of fun to read and I truly enjoyed trying to figure out the killer.
While working on a feature story on tribal arts in India, Finley and Whitt take a break and head to Jaipur with their significant others. A surprise visitor threatens to upend things for Finley and Max. But first, Finley must put aside her relationship woes to join her sister in finding out who is killing rich old ladies and scattering them around the hotel grounds.
Finley Blake is having the time of her life in Delhi. Not only is she working on a significant project, but she also gets to be with both her boyfriend, Max, who is based in Delhi, and her sister, Whitt, who is scouting micro-finance deals in India. When Logan Reynolds, a wealthy friend of Finley’s from New York, shows up in Delhi and takes the crew to Jaipur, things head south for Max and Finley. As if that isn’t enough, people start dying and wind up planted all over the hotel gardens. The sisters must pause their lives long enough to figure out who is targeting wealthy, bejeweled dowagers and not cleaning up after themselves.
I did enjoy this read but I think there were a lot of lengthy descripions and so forth about the art in this book where not much else happened which sometimes made it drag slightly. However I did carry on and found the mystery and suspense, when it was there, to be enjoyable.
