Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
I haven't read the first in this series but there was sufficient information provided to ensure understanding of how events had shaped the lives of the 3 main characters. The amount of detail, as evidenced by other reviewers, could be too repetitive and slow the story progress if the books are read in order, especially as everything is covered from each character's POV.
I thought the 'Hollywood glamour' lifestyle was conveyed well, complete with stereotypical drugs, money, sex and manipulation. Some of the plot was obvious, rather than being a clever twist. The language, although to be expected with this subject matter, is strong and could have been reduced without compromising the overall atmosphere. That said, I thought the book was a page-turner, if you like Jackie Collins you'll love this with its added depth and pace!
Absolutely love this series I can’t wait to read the third one. Gritty and amazing plot & characters I’m fully invested in. A highly recommended read.
Shari Low & Ross King are back with another juicy Hollywood thriller perfect for Jackie Collins and Melanie Blake fans: The Catch.
The Hollywood Hills are a long way away from the tough streets of Glasgow, but author Mirren McLean and her childhood friends Davie Johnston and Zander Leith have, through blood, sweat and tears, managed to cross the Atlantic and climb all the way to the very top – and an Oscar win is just the cherry on the cake for them. At long last, everything seems to be going their way. They rule Tinsel Town and nobody is going to topple them from the mountain they’ve managed to conquer. However, these three Hollywood mega-stars are about to learn that, regardless of how far you go, your past will always find you…
An old secret has come back to haunt them and the lives they’ve fought so hard for could be destroyed in an instant if the truth comes out. Someone is willing to do whatever it takes to destroy them and Mirren, Davie and Zander need to band together and find a way to stop the past from coming to light because they have a very dangerous enemy who will not stop until everything they care about is smashed into a million tiny pieces.
Shari Low & Ross King’s The Catch is an addictive blockbuster full of drama, tension, jeopardy and action that will keep readers glued to its pages. A binge-read that is an absolute struggle to put down, The Catch is a high-octane, fast-paced and absolutely jaw-dropping page-turner from Shari Low and Ross King that should not be missed.
I did not realize this was part of a series so I did feel a bit lost to begin with despite the summary of what happened in the last novel because it was summarized so quickly. I really had a hard time getting into this one and never felt connected to the story or the characters. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was lucky to receive an advance copy of The Catch by Shari Low/Ross King from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. This was a fantastic read (Second in the series) that has lots of twists and turns. I had a really hard time putting this book down and ended up staying up way too late in the night to finish it. The ending will shock you!
This is book 2 of the trilogy, and the story keeps getting better. Love the characters, love the action.
Full of twists and turns that you don't see coming until the end. Very entertaining book. Hard to put down it was so engrossing. Can't wait to read the last book in the series!!!
A good read
This is the second in this series
A well written story
And all the razzle dazzle of Hollywood
Thanks NetGalley
I'm excited to say Mirren, Davie and Zander are back in the second book of this highly addictive series.
The three friends all grew up in Glasgow and have all made it big in Hollywood. But someone is determined to make them pay. This explosive secret has come back to haunt them and could destroy them.
I loved everything about this book and I cannot wait to start the next instalment.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
An unexpected delight from Shari Low and Ross King. Did not see this book coming. A quick read, highly recommend.
The Catch is another great read from Shari Low and Ross King. Full of Hollywood glamour, betrayal and friendship it's a book that has it all wrapped up nicely.
This book left me in two minds and then wondering whether I will read the last one in the series when released - The Fall. After reading The Rise and enjoying it, I was excited to read this one and see where it took us. I felt a bit let down as it had amazing premise and exciting parts, but the ending was not so great and for me as a reader - I am the type where the ending makes or breaks the book. This ending left me feeling unsettled and restless as it felt unfinished and a letdown. The Catch starts with the three friends back together after the events of The Rise pulled them back into the same circle. Mirren, Davie, and Zander - their past brought to light. Now Mirren is grieving the loss of her daughter Chloe to drugs, Davie is trying to come to terms with the fact he and Zander are half-brothers and Zander is just good ol' Zander. What happens though when Mirren sees a ghost from her past and then strange and dangerous events start happening towards Davie and Zander? Does this mean Marilyn is back on the scene and risen from the dead and is finally ready for her payback - the payback which led to her killing the one man she ever loved? When Sarah gets the scoop from her old editor, will she write the article or will she realize she doesn't want to be part of this superficial world anymore and choose love over her career? Will Zander finally get on board with a real meaningful relationship and say I do to one of the other characters in this book? Find out in Book #2 The Catch by Shari Low and Ross King. A UK/ US Hollywood thriller.
I had no idea this was part of a series; however, it was still a great read and now I want to read the first one!
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
A raunchy thriller that I would love to see on the big screen! It's Hollywood movie stars without all the glamour. We get to glimpse into their real lifestyle and it isn't pretty.
This was a huge escape from reality book for me. I havent read the first book but I still was able to follow the storyline. Lots of twist and turns to hold your attention.
I really enjoyed The Rise so was very much looking forward to The Catch and thankfully it didn't disappoint! I love the characters and the glitz & glam storyline. Excited for book 3 now!
Fab! its dynamite again, total escapism into the world of L.A. and all that happens there, films, music, the stars and their lives, good and bad, every page thrills with the pictures forming in your mind of the lifestyle…but there is importantly a really really good story here too, exciting, thrilling, edgy and brilliantly written and played out ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Great book. I hadn’t realized it was the second in the series so now I will have to read the first one.
However it was easy to follow along even being the second one.
As expected, I loved this book! I absolutely adore Shari Low's writing and was excited to read the next instalment of her thriller series alongside Ross King.
This followed on perfectly from The Rise = I loved the glamour and the unexpected twisty turns.
The fast-pace of the novel creates high drama and suspense and I couldn't put it down, finishing it in just two sittings.
Highly recommended
I adore Shari Low’s women’s fiction, and so I jumped at the chance to review her writing in the thriller genre. This is a second in series after The Rise. I am disappointed that I didn’t manage to get a copy of The Rise first so I could experience the series from the very beginning. I’ll catch up 🙂
Mirren, Zander and Davie and are all very realistic characters, and I loved the glitz and glamour of the Hollyood setting and the twisty plot filled with secrets.
Thanks to Shari Low and Ross Green for my eARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
4 stars
Side note this is book #2 in a series
I am full of praise for him and Shari Low for creating this whole concoction of characters --- I did think "surely Hollywood isn't really like that?" BUT I know Ross has lived there a long time, and would believe this is true!! If you like the Jacki Collins style of Glambuster, then this is for you, but read The Rise first!
