More photography to drool over!! From the Northern Lights to the Stunning scenery, this is a coffee table book of dreams!!

The photography was the main pull of this book for me, but I was so fascinated by the detail shared about so many different aspects of life in Norway. From the nature side, to buildings, sculptures, the towns and history, there really is something for everyone and it was a wonderful way to learn so much about a place in nice bitesize snippets.

The wildlife is also heavily featured and that was also another brilliant aspect of this book. The colours of everything against the snow just makes everything pop that little bit brighter and some of the reflections in the water are just astonishing.

It also contrasts the old and the new so perfectly in Norway and shows how it all works together so well. Another beautiful and illuminating book from Amber Books.

Of course I knew Norway to be a land of fjords and northern lights but Norway: Land of Fjords and the Northern Lights by Claudia Martin taught me so much more about this beautiful and versatile country. Did you know that Oslo is nicknamed Tigerstaden and there’s a tiger statue at the Central Station? Or that the world’s most northerly town is Norwegian and it’s a mining town that will deport you if you don’t have a job or other means to support yourself? From its magnificent fauna (the arctic fox only considers it to be cold when the temperatures drop below -70°C!) and its many national parks, to its tiny towns and vibrant cities, from the Global Seed Vault in Spitsbergen (providing back-up storage for seeds held in 1700 gene banks all over the world!) to the Heddal Stave Church in Telemark (looking like something out of a fairy tale), from its mountains, waterfalls and lakes to its fountains, statues, urban art scene and a monolith consisting of writhing bodies, Norway is without a doubt a fascinating country that I’m even more desperate to visit now, and Norway is the perfect book to transport you there in spirit. With its gorgeous photos and lots of interesting facts, this is the perfect book for any Nordic lover and/or (armchair) traveller.

Norway: Land of Fjords and the Northern Lights
By Claudia Martin

I love Claudia Martin’s ability to collect a wide variety of pictures without getting in the way of the subject. I’ve always wanted to visit Norway. After reading her book I felt like I tripled the amount of places I want to visit once I get there.

The book is broken up by Glaciers and Fjords, Islands, Provinces and Towns, and Oslo. Some of the best wildlife pictures I’ve seen in a long time.

If this doesn’t make you want to visit this diverse country I can’t help you. You’re on your own.

This book contains the most beautiful and spectacular photographs I have ever seen in a book. The use of several double page photographs are exceptionally effective in giving the impression of the scale of some of the sights captured, particularly landscapes. I am no longer able to travel but this book is the next best thing to visiting Norway for me. It’s landscapes, architecture, wildlife and art are captured magnificently. I just loved this book. My family always know that they can never go wrong with purchasing a book from Amber publishing as a gift for me and this is no exception.

This was beautiful! It made me want to visit Norway even more!

The photographs were stunning. And I really liked how historical, linguistic, and generally educational facts were included alongside every photo. I feel like I learned something while looking at these beautiful images.

I highly recommend this both for browsing and for planning a list of places you must see in Norway.

Thank you to Netgalley and Amber Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley, Claudia Martin, and Amber Books Ltd, Amber Books for providing me with a free copy for an honest review!

Full of wonderful, atmospheric pictures of beautiful Norwegian landscapes and cute animals accompanied by lots of interesting information. However, the culture and daily life in Norway were not depicted. Still, this would make a wonderful gift for everyone loving nature or Norway in particular.

In this book, travel writer Claudia Martin takes the reader through Norway's magnificent fjords, glaciers, towns and islands with stunning photographs. I've been to Norway myself a couple of times but this book made me itch to book a trip back there right now. Beautiful pictures of a beautiful country. I could have maybe done without the Oslo section as I felt like it didn't quite fit in since the other sections focused a lot on the natural beauty of the country, but that's a minor detail. Gorgeous book.

After perusing this one with its vivid images and stunning photographs, you’ll be adding Norway to your next vacation plans. The images of the northern lights alone are enough to keep you captivated for hours. From monumental glaciers, to quaint, colorful fishing villages, to romping reindeer, snowy polar bears, bearded seals, arctic foxes, soaring eagles, and other beautiful animals in the wild, and through the bright lights of Oslo and dark, underground bars of the freezing North, this one is a visual stunner.

Norway for me is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited whether in the winter or summer. No matter where you are in the country every day offers a different view. As the seasons change I have never been to a more vibrant county whether it’s the bright buildings against the background of the snow or the green grass and beautiful trees during the autumn and all of this is before you take a trip down one of the many magnificent fjords. I will be buying a copy of this for my parents for Christmas to remind them of our recent cruise around the country. Beautiful book.

Anyone who has ever felt intrigued by the northern lights, massive glaciers, and rugged landscapes of Scandinavia will be floored by this book. The photographs are magnificent, with just the right amount of explanatory text to add to the feeling of awe. It covers the wildlife, the ice, the peaks, the cityscapes, and the extreme conditions with amazing visuals. This coffee table book is absolutely a keeper!

Norway is at the very top of my bucket list of places to visit. I have ancestors from there, as well as Sweden, and have dreamed of visiting since I was a child.
This book is a beautiful, intimate and fascinating look at Norway, taking in everything from Svalbard to Oslo, glaciers to museums, fjords to seed vault and of course the wonderful Viking ships!

The photographs are stunning, everything you would expect to see in Norway, one thing I really like is the dark sea and white landscape that is dotted with vibrantly painted homes, their colours chosen to bring joy to the workers who lived in such an isolated part of the Country.

The artwork particularly fascinated me and has increased my list of places to visit when I eventually get to Norway.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publishers Amber Books for the chance to read and review this book.

This review will be posted on goodreads and Instagram.

Norway: Land of Fjords and the Northern Lights is a jaw dropping beautiful masterpiece of a book. If you were not in love with Norway before you will be after reading this book. The photography is simply stunning. The different features of Norway from cities, to fjords, wildlife, mountains, culture, history and so much more jump from the pages. The book is full of colour and life, and I could almost touch the snow. This is an inspiring book and will definitely leave you wanting to visit Norway. It would make a beautiful gift but would also be a book I would want to keep on my coffee table for dreaming and inspiration.

I absolutely loved the few days I got to spend in Norway and this book took me right back. When I traveled to Norway I really only saw Oslo and a few of the surrounding towns and this book was a great reminder of the majesty of the country outside of its capital city. This book takes readers through the fjords, glaciers, islands, small towns, and cities of Norway. The color photographs are absolutely beautiful. This book would be a wonderful gift for anyone who has traveled to Norway.

I have seen stunning images before and knew it was beautiful, but, WOW!! I was blown away by the sheer, jaw dropping exquisite scenery. The mountains, ice, snow, water, lights, just wow!! The pictures of the cities and islands were insightful; I love the varied colors of the buildings. Additionally, the wild animals are great shots in their natural habitats. I was truly blown away by the fantastic photography of this heaven on earth. Most definitely recommend to all lovers of travel and stunning images. If you’ve ever wanted to experience Norway, but you’re unable to travel, then this book is a must have for you!

Oh my word! The photography in this book is STUNNING! I truly could get lost in these photographs and I think this would truly make an excellent gift to anyone who loves Norway! The informative text to go along with the photography is not overwhelming, but compliments the book very well!

I love this series of photo books focusing on countries from Amber Books. Norway is a stunning country and the color photographs show off its natural beauty. The sections include; Glaciers and Fjords, The Islands, Provinces and Towns, and Oslo. I’’ve spent a few days in Oslo and was excited to see parks, buildings, sites and statues I visited. But this book makes we want to return and get further out of the capital city. This is a great souvenir for someone who has been to Norway and I can see it as something I would check out from a library. Thank you to NetGalley and Amber Books for a temporary eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Norway: Land of Fjords and the Northern Lights is a well written and beautifully photographed pictorial tour of Norway by Claudia Martin. Released 15th Nov 2022 by Amber Books, it's 224 pages and is available in hardcover format. An earlier edition of the book was published in flexi-bound format. This is book 15 of the Visual Explorer Guide series.

Norway is full of awe inspiring "pinch me" scenery and this book highlights the vast expanses of mountainous terrain, glaciers, fjords, wilderness, and urban areas beautifully contrasting austere ice-fields, charming small fishing villages, and big city night life side by side.

Five stars. This would be a good choice for public or school library acquisition, home use/display, or gift giving.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
