I like the premise of this book cause my closet definitely needs to be pared down. However, there was just too much information. I think I would need something shorter and more bullet type.
I found the steps and subsequent questions to be very helpful in creating a basic wardrobe. I am a more visual person but found the suggested pictures a bit boxy and drab. The book had good information, but I will stick to the normal people fashion blogs.
This is a fun book but I simply don't have enough clothes in my closet to actually shop in my closet. Do you think a 23 year old trans queer freelancer living in a country ridden with war have bought that many clothes in my life? I'm five foot tall and a hundred pounds. I'm still wearing clothes I bought in high school because they fit and also I don't have that kind of budget made just for clothes. Anyway, the philosophy is on point. If shopaholics are finding out this book, it would be so much fun for then! For me, who've gone on 3 shopping trips in the last 2 years, this book is not that useful. But I'd still recommend this book to shopaholics and some of my friends. Anyway, thanks to Netgalley for this ARC!
This book is an interesting concept, especially with the cost of living crisis and people having less money for clothing and the current trends.
The author talks you through what's in your closet now and how we find our personal style. You are guided to build a wardrobe that works for you and will last , without breaking the bank.
Reading the book is like having a friend guiding you through the process. Lots of practical advice included.
Somewhat to my surprise I found this to be very good. I'm not the organizing a wardrobe type, and didn't have high hopes, but liked the concept of not just buying more of the same.
It had some sensible and thoughtful suggestions of what works with what and what for which body type, and made me think not just about making space in my wardrobe but also about what to wear and what suits. Not preachy and mercifully not unduly long. Definitely worth reading, maybe considering a few chapters at a time. It is rather American centric, but it's the concepts that matter not the detail of pants versus trousers and Uk vs American. brands. For it's type great.
I have always been intrigued by a capsule wardrobe but never really thought I had the skills to pull it off. This book has given me the confidence to at least give it a try. I love how easy and practical the author has made the process of shopping your wardrobe, while adding a hint of humor along the way.
For anyone looking to save money or start a capsule wardrobe, I would highly recommend this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an advanced copy in return for my honest review.
The title, "Let's shop in our own closet", speaks for itself. This book is about just that, finding the niche style that your closet is telling you to harness and latch onto. Told with a gentle, guiding voice, this book is useful for anyone who feels that their overflowing closet and dressers are telling them that a capsule wardrobe is hidden among all the possible personalities you have sampled in the past, you just need to dig through and find it.
The only thing that would have improved this book was more illustrations and a few colour photos. As is it is a thoroughly sensible book, just needed something to break up the text a bit. It makes so much sense to 'shop" this way , I actually found a lot more than I would have thought.
I'm so sorry this just didn't work for me personally. I found it very jumpy. It could have been the format and maybe it will look better as a published book. I had a hard time understanding.
Thank you Netgalley for an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The book is organized into two parts, the first one gives 15 steps with tasks to examine your wardrobe and all the clothing you have. The second part gives in 4 chapters insights on how to find your own style.
There is plenty of good and actionable advice to get a handle on your wardrobe and create your style resulting in a functional capsule wardrobe.
The writing tries to be humourous and casual which is not always to my liking.
This is the kind of random content I like to read. I have loved the fashion subject for years since I was a kid (almost went to college for study that) and it was great to know deeper about how to build a smart and efficient wardrobe without losing the style and fashion trends. I liked a lot the tips and suggestions made by the author. Approved.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book!
At first I thought this is more of an brochure or rather than a book due to the size, but after staring to read I was captivated, fascinated and loved it.
I love how easy to read it is, how funny it is and how the information is structured.
This book made me curios, made me laugh and seriously think of the clothes I keep in my closed.
I wanted to do a declutter for so long, and I always found a reason to delay it, still not started but I re-ordered some of my clothes so that they resample to a mini capsule for the winter season and will give it a try, I made a list of what I am missing and asked my husband to get me some of these as a present for Christmas :D
I liked the examples from the pictures and I wound have minded to see more picture examples.
Dear Alaya Aifel, I want to read more of your books, your style is captivating and I think even if you mentioned there are enough book on style I would love to read another book written by you (and more pictures please:) )
I have also raised a request for this book to be added on Goodreads so I can add my review there too.
I had never heard of the term "capsule wardrobe" until I started to read this book, but oh my goodness, what an insight into how I buy clothes!!! This book really made me stop and think.
I thought the book was written with a great deal of skill, and it really helped explain things very clearly. The author also adds a touch of humour to this book which made me smile on more than one occasion.
For those interested in saving money on their clothes, or just want to get a bit more organised then you have to read this book. I think it is going to save me a lot of money in the future as I embark on creating my own capsule wardrobe. I highly recommend this book.

The writing style just didn't work for me and in the part of the book I read there really wasn't anything interesting or new.
I found parts of this book interesting and I will try to put them into practice.

This was a really neat book! I enjoyed reading the author’s suggestions on building a sustainable capsule wardrobe. I was expecting a bit more imagery but overall this was a great read!
