Great book for Dartmoor lovers, just the right balance for lighthearted intrigue and murder along the way….

This is an entertaining read with likeable characters. Juno Browne is the main character and gets herself involved in discovering the identity of a murderer. There are a number of lively characters in the story that all adds to the enjoyment of this story. The search for the murder involves a number of different illegal operations by the culprits and some dangerous situations for Juno. Juno is quite fearless and jumps in where others may hang back. This is the first book I had read in the series but it didn’t hinder my enjoyment. There are some lovely descriptions of the Devon countryside and villages. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When you go on holiday have a lovely break so when you come back you expect it to be chaotic but actually it's all calm........ But.......
A few days back home and it is back to normal and a new investigation starts.
This plot has you gripped from the moment the body is found, you know the secrets that unfold are just going to take a tight grip on you and you cannot put the book down until it is solved.

This has an interesting cast of characters that carry the story along a nice pace and create depth to the story. Great plot and I found myself filling an afternoon reading this in one sitting as I found it so enjoyable. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest , unbiased review. 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Series are really hard to review and I have been loving the Devon Mysteries series since the beginning. I was first attracted to it as it’s set in the town of Ashburton which is about a twenty minute drive from me. Juno Browne always seems to be putting herself in harms way but she is often either protecting somebody or just unlucky, but not always. It’s a good thing that the crimes committed in this book are a bit further afield than just Ashburton as it was starting to look more like Tijuana (a Mexican city reputed to be the most dangerous place in the world) than the sleepy backwater it is in reality.

This book is number six in the series and although it could work as a stand alone, it would be better to read them in sequence, and they’re great so it’s no hardship.

Juno Browne is a small business owner and quite an unlikely sleuth but over the years she has this uncanny knack of finding bodies. Sometimes far too close to home for comfort. Like the rest of the series this is told in the first person from Juno’s perspective in the past tense.

There are a host of well rounded characters from Pat and Sophie who mind the very unprofitable antique shop that Juno inherited and hasn’t the heart to sell, in exchange for their own space in the shop, to Ricky and Morris a gay couple who run a costume hire service for theatre productions and love loaning out fancy frocks for Juno to wear.

This adventure starts with the murder of a local journalist combined with a spate of dog thefts. As one of Juno’s businesses is a dog walking service she is already in the thick of it.

The end climax was pretty tense stuff and a really exciting read and it really touched my heart somehow, hence the five stars.

What I liked:
Great Characters
Plot that is not too convoluted
It almost made me cry at the end.

What didn’t work for me:
Ashburton isn’t that dangerous in reality.

Juno is a relatable and intersting character and this last instalment in this series was a good read that kept me turning pages.
The solid mystery is full of surprises and kept me guessing, I was glad to catch up with the characters.
I liked it and hope that the romantic part will be solved in the next book.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

I loved this author's style of writing. Although the subject was serious, her character had a light-hearted outlook on life and the subsidiary characters were well depicted too. I did find it a bit far-fetched that she blundered on trying to solve the crime herself without involving the police until the last minute!
