Wow. 5 stars
Hannah Davidson has a dementia-stricken father, an estranged TV star brother, and a mother whose suspicious death opened up fault lines beneath the surface of their ordinary family life. Hannah is disturbed by the uncanny resemblance she now has to her glamorous mother. She begins to exploit this arresting likeness to force the truth into the light, but in doing so is propelled into a fatal standoff she could never have foreseen.
Loved this book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Allison & Busby for giving me an advance copy.
This was a dark, misanthropic and decidedly weird thriller. I mean that in the best of ways. I.will devour the author’s next book like she devoured my soul for these last 300 pages
Five stars
I really enjoyed this book. Very well written and beautifully structured. A crazy family story yet completely believable. Highly recommend this book to others and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Hannah has left her job and moved back into her childhood home to take care of her dad who is in hospital after he has had a nasty fall and is critical.
Her now famous brother who she has had no contact with for years has cut all ties with his family as he believed his father killed their mother when they were children. But there was never any evidence.
Hannah was only 14 when her mother died and being back in the childhood home and faced with the past, nothing makes sense. So she begins the investigation into her mothers death and this murder mystery will have you hooked with all the twists and turns. The ending was not predictable which was nice.
An intriguing who-dun-nit murder mystery.
I found it very difficult to put this book down!
It's a twisty thriller with well developed characters and an interesting storyline where I just needed to find out what had happened, why it had and how had the secret been kept so long!
I really enjoyed this read and will be hoping for more by this author in future
A good debut and a psychological thriller that kept me on the edge till the end.
It's full of surprising twists, kept me guessing, and I liked the characters development.
It's a bit slow but kept my attention.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
I found this quite a slow burn and thought it may end up being ine I abandoned before the end but it did actually get a lot better the more I read. The main character seemed to get a pot more likeable and understandable as the plot progresses and once she starts uncovering things then it does get really engaging. The ending is quite predictable but I still enjoyed the journey
Great read! Best book I have read in awhile! I couldn't put it down. The characters were so complex it was hard to decide how you felt about them. Definitely a page turner!
A slow burning and compelling read that I read quickly. I couldn't put it down as I needed to know what happens
This was a great debut from the author, that took me little over 48 hours to read
The book is a slow burner, but holds so much suspense throughout it
It was hard to believe at times that this was a debut. The writing is perfect for that of a psychological thriller
There were so many secrets to unravel and mysteries to solve. I was playing the detective as I turned the pages
A great dysfunctional family psychological thriller by an author to watch!
3.5 stars
The main character Hannah grew on me as I went through the book, which was lucky, as she was thoroughly unlikeable to begin with.
Too much alcohol and self pity.
But she was certainly determined yo find the truth about what happened to her mother.
Clue after clue is revealed, and Hannah reveals the bigger picture bit by bit.
I'd guessed most of it way before the end, but still enjoyed watching her join the dots.
My biggest negative was the constant mention of Hannah's weight.
It hit some pretty fast paced moments, but amongst them, some fairly touching ones.
It was an enjoyable read
