This is my 5th book by Laura Jane Williams and probably my favourite. The premise was novel and not what I expected. I was a big fan of the two timelines and thought it was well executed. I enjoyed the supporting characters and thought it was a nice touch that their stories altered slightly in each timeline also. However, there were times I got a bit mixed up between which events had happened in which timeline regarding these sub-plots.
At times I felt the Mike timeline dragged on slightly, but that may be because I was more intrigued by the Noah timeline and rooting for him. While I predicted the ultimate outcome fairly early on, I found myself rooting for him regardless, which is the sign of good writing.
I read the last quarter pretty much in one sitting, as the pace picked up quite a bit and I think the shorter chapters added nicely to the pacing.
I enjoyed the overall message of the book, that what’s for you won’t pass you, which was a comforting note to end on and fit well with the tone of the book.
With thanks to Netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Easy to read lightweight romance following two different paths which might have been taken and whether to follow an old flame and rekindle a relationship with him or follow a new path with someone she had recently met.
For me this was too superficial, the romances both old but renewed and new were all too fast and too predictable.
Despite finishing the book it was not enough depth to the characters or storyline.
The story follows Becca on two parallel timelines.
After attending a ‘manifestation party’ and trying to manifest her perfect man, Becca’s ex-boyfriend texts out of the blue.
The first timeline follows Becca ignoring the text. The second follows her having replied. We get to see both versions of her life unfold.
I absolutely loved the premise of this book!
Watching the two timelines play out was so interesting and I had no idea how things would end and I kept changing my mind about which love interest to root for.
The secondary characters are everything and more. They’re the best friends a girl could wish for and I loved how much they loved and cared for Becca.
Also the very last word is the title of the book and little things like that just make me so happy.
This was my first Laura Jane Williams and won’t be my last!
Lovestruck is a romance novel which follows Becca on her path to find Mr Right. We follow two different stories. One where Becca rekindles with here ex boyfriend Mike and another where she starts a relationship with famous author Noah. In both stories we see their relationships develop and in the end we see whether fate will bring Becca with Mr Right and find her happiness.
I really enjoyed reading this book, in particular following the two different plots of the book. I really enjoyed the ending of the book but I won’t give too much away! I loved reading and seeing Carlos and Beccas friendship develop through the book. The characters throughout the book were great too.
I cannot wait to start reading more of Laura’s books.
2 parallel universe romances for Becca. At 35, she is ready to settle down, will it be a reunion with her ex boyfriend, Mike , or new, younger boyfriend, Noah? A different rom com approach, enthralling, waiting to see who will win Becca's heart .Brilliant.

After being single for a while, hair salon owner Becca is ready for love, in fact she even holds a manifestation ceremony to put it ‘out there’!
So when five minutes later her ex unexpectedly sends her a message there’s only two options - to text or not to text, that is the question!
Really enjoyed this fun ‘sliding doors’ read where you get two love stories for the price of one!
I thought Becca was a very likeable main character and she’s joined by a great mix of friends and family.
The two main love interests were endearing and I kept changing my mind over which outcome I was rooting for, only for everything to be shaken up at the last minute!
This will be the perfect summer read when it’s released in June.
A modern day Sliding Doors that examines the consequences we make and possibilities we take when two paths open, and the different lives that could be lived.
I liked the overall idea of this, exploring the outcome of character Becca ultimately deciding to rekindle her romance with an ex or start afresh with someone new. I liked the dual timeline, as we see how different Becca's life is down each path and how certain events interweave between the two. However I think this isn't quite the romance I was looking for. Although Becca has a strong friendship group, I never really connected with any of them or saw any real emotional depth to Becca as a character. The romances feel a bit too rushed and it all felt a bit too 'nice' for me too, without the complexities I've come to expect from the romances I enjoy.
An interesting concept, but not enough character development for me.
Becca Calloway is just trying to have a good time. She's sure that if she stays positive and manifests good things, the universe will send something her way. So when Trim, her hair salon turned events space has a manifestation night she has to stay hopeful that this is the day she manifests true love into her life - the kind of love that will sweep her off her feet. She has it all, but even then she still wants someone to love.
So surely it had to be a sign when as soon as they finish their manifestations, her ex appears as if by magic. Mike; the one who got away. But is this a sign she needs to let go of her past, or revisit it?
In one world, she looks back. In another, she looks forward. But which way is the right one, if that even exists?
"There are two ways to fall in love. Fireworks, an instant boom. And a sunrise, that slow dawning from night to day."
Laura Jane Williams never disappoints - Becca was a brilliant narrator. She wants love, marriage and children; not because she feels her life is missing them but because she wants it to add to her life and to give someone love. She was so friendly and funny, letting us into the little moments of her life and dreaming about the future.
Her friends were gorgeous, all of them were a delight but I had a soft spot for Jia Li. She had a take-no-crap attitude, full of confidence and candour but underneath that badass exterior was a real friend. Trim, which is a fabulous salon during the day but turns into a quirky bohemian events space at night - all of her work friends are brilliant, full of playful banter and lots of love. Every relationship in this story was delicate and complex, showing shining examples of what a chosen family can be and how relationships change and grow with us.
In the world she texts back, we see a second-chance romance play out. In the one she doesn't, we see new potential love stories start to take place - and while usually I'm not a fan of the parallel universe thing being done outside of sci-fi, this one was actually such a joy to read. And of course, offers the occasional words of wisdom, like "Never get between a woman and her bread. I think I read that in the rules somewhere."
Fresh, feel-good and fabulous - LJW writes sweet and steamy romances for women who know their worth but still want to indulge in a delightful romcom.
I enjoyed the writing of this book, it was super easy to get into and I enjoyed the Sliding Doors style of how making a decision can drastically change the events in your life but it was equally predictable and I guessed the ending (for both scenarios) about halfway through and I finished it like mehhhhh. Basically it was ok.
This was a fantastic story!! Such a page turner.. so much so I picked it up and didn't put it down until the end.
The story was told over two timelines of two different scenarios which definitely added to the tension within the narrative. It was definitely a quirky way to tell the story. But despite the different paths the main character Becca takes does she end up with the same ending she would have all along?? You'll have to read to find out.
The characters are so in depth, they were relatable and that made them easy to love and root for.
Not only are you getting a love story like no other, this book is full of hilarious moments and so much hope and joy. This is going to be a hit rom-com when it comes out!!
Thank you to Netgalley & Cornerstone for the opportunity to read this book.
This book took me places I didn't think I was going. The storylines were fantastic and very well written. I enjoyed how the went along side each other. The characters were portrayed good and the friendship circle was fabby. A very good read.
Let’s have a little commotion for this book!! What a charming, witty, entertaining and fun read it was. I had such a good time reading it! The characters were adorable and the story quite sweet!
Lovestruck by Laura Jane Williams is a romantic comedy with a twist. After a night manifesting her dream man and a happily ever after (complete with baby bump and white picket fence), we follow Becca Calloway on two alternative timelines.
"Love isn’t all hearts and flowers and frictionfree. Well, maybe it is if it’s a superficial love. But real love needs to exist in real life, and real life has friction."
In one timeline, after an unexpected text, she ignites things with her ex; the one that got away. Could second chance love be on the cards? In the alternative timeline, she blocks his number and falls for a famous novelist.
Lovestruck is about finding love in the most unexpected ways. I really liked the concept, but I did find my attention drifting at times. It seemed a little overlong at parts. However, the dialogue was very witty, and I loved the comradery between her and her mates. The ending was also satisfyingly sweet. It was an easy and enjoyable read.
Another perfect book from Laura Jane Williams. Really well written and I must say I adored Becca!
Becca has decided that she is ready for her Mr Right and so she decides to manifest him, of course nothing is ever that smooth and not even five minutes later she receives a message from her ex. She knows its a sign, Its just that now she isn't sure what way the sign is trying to point her in!
Should she go back to her ex or move on with her new man?
Such a fun story! Highly recommend!
Laura Jane Williams never disappoints, I loved it! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me an advance copy, I will definitely be recommending.
Although not your average romantic comedy, it still had some funny moments and left me feeling happy and uplifted. The writing is also fantastic, as you'd expect from Laura. A great read.
I love books with two possible outcome. I love following two possible timeline. Before this book, i was complaining about romance and how everything seems cliche to me or theatrical. This was also kind of book i expected, all the loveydovey but in a good way. I read another book like this and i liked that one too. Not that this was similar kindda writing, just reminiscing the plot line now. The story was easy to follow which becomes difficult sometimes if there are two timeline going on. So well done.
I would like to thank Netgalley, the publisher and the author for giving me this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I did not enjoy this book and DNF it around 40%. I don’t like not finishing a book but this left me no option. It did not grab and hold my attention.
Star.: 💫
Oh it’s marvellous!
I loved this story. Becca really wants to fall in love - to meet ‘The One’. In fact, that’s her personal solstice manifestation at an event she holds at her hair salon. And almost as soon as it’s over, Becca gets a text from Mike, her first love and the one she always wondered about…. They hadn’t fallen out of love, circumstances just pulled them apart.
From there on in, the narrative splits and we follow two stories along a similar timeline showing what happens in Becca’s life if she replies to Mike and what happens if she doesn’t.
Ably supported by best friends Jia Li and Carlos, we follow Becca on her path to true love.
This story is original, witty, emotionally insightful and so, so entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The author’s writing style is fabulous. It’s beautiful but simple and I found myself absolutely captivated by Becca’s world(s) and all the people in it.
And the pay off - oh, it’s lovely. And we get it twice!
Read it, love it!
Thanks to #Netgalley and the publishers for a preview copy.
Firstly, a big thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House (Cornerstone) for the ARC and the opportunity to read this fabulous story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Becca is a very relatable main character. She suffers the same awkward, cliché blunders we all do in the dating world – she’s an over thinker which is a very relatable trait.
Becca is living out two possible paths from whether she replies to the text from her ex or not. I didn’t get this at first because I don’t think it was very clear that this was what was going on but it helps that the chapters are titled ‘She Texts Back’ ‘She Doesn’t Text Back’. I think that having two timelines running alongside each other is a really cool concept. The two relationships that played out were very different, but I was invested in both. But no matter the universe/timeline, she ends up with the same guy that I was rooting for her to end up with all along. It’s safe to say I was mighty pleased with the ending.
Becca’s relationships did move very quickly and I love that her friends did call her up on this; I like that her friendships with Jia Li and Carlos are so strong that they could be this forward and honest with her. Their protectiveness is everything!
Ultimately, this is a really indulgent romance, and I think that this book will be a big hit when it’s released.
