What a book! Made-up words all over the place. Is 'effectuate' a word? And why Shakespar? Unfortunately, this book does not stand alone all that well and one is very aware of having missed much that has gone before and that this book is one of a series. Consequently for those, such as myself, some understanding of this book will be lost..
Americanisms spoil the often very authentic Elizabethan prose and interrupt one's immersion in the story, which is odd in itself. Almost no conversation can be had without some kind of reference to spying, intrigue or religion. Even a simple conversation between husband and wife begins with a reference to intrigue and spying. , It's a wonder that any of these spies ever keep their cover with the constant reference to their undercover activities, Indeed, it's palpably clear that they actually do not since just about everyone he meets seems to know that Dee is a spy.
A silly story with a plot totally lacking in believability, but this IS fiction.
