I live for these Rebel Girls books. I wish I had these as a child - 25 women working with wildlife would have made my dreams come true. I cannot wait to start handing these down to my niece when she gets older.
"Rebel Girls Animal Allies" is a super cool book that showcases amazing stories of women and girls who have made a difference in the animal world. From scientists and activists to veterinarians and conservationists, it covers a wide range of inspiring figures who are passionate about protecting animals. The stories are not just informative but also super empowering, making it a great read for young readers who love animals or are curious about different careers.
I'd give it four stars because it's not just educational but also really engaging with its vibrant illustrations. Plus, it does a great job of highlighting lesser-known stories alongside more famous ones, which is always a bonus. However, it could have been even better with a bit more depth in some of the stories. Still, it's a fantastic book for kids and adults alike who want to learn about amazing women making a difference in the world!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I have lost count of how many books I read of this series and I have loved them all.
Rebel Girls do an amazing job showing known and not so known girls that have done amazing things in life and this is just another example.
Thank you very much for the chance to read this book and know Women that work with Wildlife!
My daughter loves Rebel Girls and their books are always so inspiring for young girls. I would always recommend them and their books.
We love love love this series. We are also people who love the outdoors and wildlife, so as soon as we saw there was a Rebel Girls for wildlife, we absolutely had to have it. I am so glad we went for it, as we all loved it so much. As per usual, for the series, it had beautifully drawn illustrations in vivid colours, and such interesting and fun details to match each person. Another perfect read from this lot!
A beautifully illustrated, informative, and inspiring book of women in science! I would have LOVED to have this book as a little girl who loved animals and wanted to be a zoologist, marine biologist, vet, etc.
My daughter loved reading this book with me - specifically about Bindi Irwin! We love the Rebel Girl series and the power and confidence it gives young girls
Rebel Girls Animal Allies: 25 Tales of Women Working with Wildlife reminds me of books I used to read when I was younger.
Whilst these books are focused on great women within the care and protection of wildlife, and the creator does focus them for girls obviously? I do truly believe that these books could and should be read by any child regardless of gender. Every child should learn about how the wonderful species that share this planet with us have been protected and sometimes saved from extinction.
The stories about people such as Eugenie Clark who is a marine specialist or Amanda Vincent and Heather Koldewey who both worked hard to protect the beautiful seahorses; are short enough that children can learn a great deal but it's not too much for them. Alongside the information available in the book, Rebel Girls provides QR codes you can scan that provide additional information, which is a wonderful way to maximise technology.
Once again, the artwork is unique and brings the book to life, and fills it with colour. These are great books, suitable for every child who wants to learn about someone new.. and would be great for homework, etcetera.
Rebel Girls series is my absolute favourite. I often gift the different titles to my niece. This book focuses on building beautiful bonds with animals. With inspiring stories of scientists, veterinarians, activists, and others who fight for animal rights and conservation, this title takes things to the next level.
I love the Rebel Girls series, they’re so timely and really great reads for kids and to have at school.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my review.
I loved Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls so I was very excited when I saw this was going to be published and HAD to have a read!
It is a beautifully written, hugely captivating book which celebrates women, many of whom I had not heard of, through history who have a passion for looking after animals. This book shows readers a variety of different ways they can help animals. I really liked that women of all ages have been highlighted showing that brilliant conservation work and helping animals can be done throughout someone's life.
There are also 25 extraordinary illustrators contributed to this book with their own individual styles for each portrait. There are also wonderful ideas of how to be an animal ally at the back of the book as well as art and craft activities as well.
Super cute, I love this series! Easy and fun way to learn more about all these women who are doing important work.
I adore book from The Rebel Girls. As a mum of 4yo girl, I'm obsessively buying alll the editions and read one story a day, to inspire her and myself as well!
Animal Allies is focusing on women who do something good in the environmental area. It is not only animals, sometimes they see wider angle, perspective and their actions are more "long term" than immediately effect. But still, it is awesome to see how girls can make a difference even in this topic.
I loved this book ! The illustration are awesome, all the story are really interesting and I loved to learn about every one of them
This is another good installment of the Rebel Girls series with a good mix of women from different countries. Some of the short bios left me wanting more. One of the stories is about someone who says "adopt, don't shop" and I'm so tired of hearing this. I like dog breeds and they wouldn't exist if *everyone* adopted their pets. Just shop smartly if a rescue pet doesn't work for your situation. Otherwise, this is a good representation.
I love this series of inspirational mini biographies of incredible women, and I particularly liked this one as it included a lot of women that I'd never heard of before, all of whom are doing extremely valuable work in supporting Mother Nature on Planet Earth. An excellent addition to the collection.
As a future teacher I believe these books displaying amazing women are truly necessary for everyone. Thank you for letting me read and review.
This isn’t the first book I’ve read from the Rebel Girls series and I liked it as always.
Another excellent Rebel girls book focusing on animals - Perfect for any classroom reading corner. As always, illustrations are stunning and the selection of people is varied and interesting. A must for every classroom reading corner.
This humongous book series branches out into a green-minded volume, as it looks at 25 stories where females have proven pioneering in some way as regards animal protection. A young girl getting British circuses banned from using animals, a woman determined to make birdwatching acceptable for people of colour in the light of a racist bitch in New York, and even someone determined to protect the land Persian leopards in Iraq need to roam – who has yet to see one of the beasts in real life. All are here and more, taking us right round the world, in the usual format of full-page illustration, quote, biographical data and page of heavily fictionalised text. It's the latter that has and always will be the problem for me, as I dislike the way everything has to be dressed up as a slice of a novel, and not delivered in the routine factual manner. It's not like it's done a jot to make this series any less successful, however...
A great collection of essays about Animal Allies around the world. Whether protecting the animals in their backyards or animals on the other side of the world, these Rebel Girls are inspirations for those who think they can’t do anything to help animals. In fact, you don’t even need to be a scientist, there is an author, an artist, an actress, and a filmmaker. Even they are using their talents to protect the animals and the environment. The essays are a page each giving a brief look at each person. At the end of the book there are a few ways to start becoming an animal ally. Some of the essays have QR codes so you can learn more about those Rebel Girls. I believe this is a good collection of essays for a young Rebel Girl who’s interested in animals and nature.
