3, the novel is not bad, just not for me.
I didn’t like the story, but it will be harsh to put less than 3 stars, based on just my preferences. The writing is good and the drawing too, the story is logical, easy to follow, but just not my kind of story. I will say read it to have your own opinion about it, we can’t like everything, maybe this will be your favourite of the year :)

I didn't really like this book but I think i'm just not the target audience. The art style was very cool but I wasn't super into the storyline.

This is an okay read. I liked the art. It was simple but perfect for the style of the story. I like the bumbling mobster falling into the chaos of a farmer's wife. You expect the mobster just released from prison to be the complicated one. Not this time. Lou has her own set of problems to sort out.

It was a fun quick read. Look out for running headless chickens. If you like a story with a psycho farmer’s wife, an affectionate gullible mobster, a hound dog named Frida, and a kind cop…..look no further. The puns throughout this story were not lost on me. It was a fun cast of characters that I’d be happy to visit again.

Black humour, sarcasm and a great story about debts, scapegoats and the Mafia! Usually I can't read any books on my phone - but I started reading this one by accident and couldn't put it down.

Review to come January on blog/goodreads/etc..

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

Of course I had to get this one, the cover alone had me having all the questions. Why are two mob/strange dudes staring at these two people in the farm? Why the title?

In this book we meet Aldo, an ex-mobster who has been in jail for 9 years (we later find out why) and after a crash lands him near a farm he meets Lou, a woman who loves her farm.. and oh yes, murdered her husband. He is still fresh in the freezer. Tucked in like Tetris blocks.

We see that the two form a mutual understanding. She allows him to stay and get better as long as he helps out. He has a safe space for a while. But then things start to happen. Apparently dearest husband wasn't just a normal accountant. He liked gambling.. and he was doing things for the mob. Yep. Everything is connected to the mob. Apparently the mob isn't happy with the death of the accountant and there is also something important in the ledger he had. And thus begins even more chaos. And misunderstandings. From both sides. And well, later other people as well.

And we learn more about more about the town, the mayor, the mob, and more. I love that the story wasn't just about the two people, but also went for how corrupt everything actually was.

I had such a laugh when that cavalry part happened, it just reminded me so much of Home Alone!

Plus points for the mentioning of the title. Always love it when that happens. Also, there is enough blood all around that the title makes all the sense.

There are a TON of misunderstandings. At first I found them quite funny (and at times understandable, I mean, if I saw someone getting rid of arms and body parts... or giving some oddly worded sentences) but later I was like, GOOD LORD people can it get any more chaotic? It just got a bit too much for me.

I wasn't such a fan of the mob parts. I get why they were added but it was just mostly annoying to me and I just wanted to see how Lou and Aldo were getting on and seeing if they would survive all this chaos.

The ending was both epic and made me laugh (especially those last panels).

All in all, sometimes a bit too much, sometimes the misunderstandings went too far/too weird, but in overall I am really happy that I read this graphic novel. It was funny, there was action, there were second chances, there was some blood, there was a cute dog, and I really enjoyed the art!

this is a strange little graphic novel but I liked it in a weird way. The story line was strong and I liked the art. I don't think this is a book for everyone but if this sort of thing is up your alley I would definitely check this out.

A man, looking to escape from the mafia, finds himself tangled up in its web. Thus begins a chase muddled with confusion as the former mafia man and a woman solve the mystery of why her murdered husband was part of the mafia.
This graphic novel seemed appealing based on the plot. However, once I got into the story, my interest faded. Mainly because I was reading it as a contender for the middle school library. Although the book is advertised as an “Adult Graphic Novel”, there are mature kids in the school who read at that level. This means I have to be careful about which adult level books come into the library. This book just seemed a little too far out of the range.
This does not mean the story is bad, there is bound to be someone out there who loves it. However, it does not fit within my audience.

This was a quick an entertaining novel! I enjoyed the story but felt like it could be developed more (both backstories for her and him), although I guess it's leaving it open for future sequels. Overall very enjoyable and fun!

A Taste for Blood is a quick graphic novel about Lou, a female serial killer and Aldo, an ex-convict who gets tangled up in the world of Lou. I can't say much more without giving away the whole story. BUT what I can say is that I think it was underdeveloped in a way. I would have loved to have gotten more of Aldo's backstory, especially with his brother ??? that was kind of out of nowhere. And we could have gotten more content surrounding the relationship of Lou and Aldo, especially at the end. I personally loved the color palette, but the art style was not for me. If you enjoy the art style of The Umbrella Academy comics then you will enjoy this. Overall a quick and entertaining read. Thank you to netgalley for my first ever e-arc!!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

This was...okay. It felt like it had every single trope that you can find in any classic 1970s mafia movie. The story is okay, but it's easily forgettable and didn't really keep me engaged. I only finished it because the book is only 120-something pages long. I did have moments where I thought it was set in the 1980s due to how some of the mafia characters talk, but once I saw characters using cell phones and laptops, I realize it has to be set in modern times. The art style is okay. It's very 1990's American newspaper cartoon style, leaning into almost caricatures with how faces are drawn. I'm not a huge fan of this style, but it's still easy to understand what's going on in the scenes with it, so that is a plus. I do like that whenever a character speaks another language, there is a translation at the bottom of the page. This book is VERY gory. The cartoon style mutes it quite a bit, but it's still pretty bloody in certain parts. There's also not too much focus on Lou, because most of the story focuses on Aldo, which is a pity. I wish the story focused more on Lou because she's honestly a far more interesting character than Aldo.

A nice quick read! In this graphic novel, a mafioso recently released from prison comes across a farmer who recently murdered her husband. The husband, an accountant, was also tied up with the mob- bloodshed and camaraderie ensue. This is a fun gory graphic novel that seems like it's setting up for a series. I'm not sure if I'll be back for more, but it was a good way to add another book to my count for the year, and a way to kill 20 minutes!
