I quite enjoyed this look at being woman in midlife but didn't connect with it as much as other books in this field as I found I had little in common with many of the issues/topics talked about
I'm slightly too young for this book (and with the mention of Gen X on every page I wasn't allowed to forget it either!) but I found it an illuminating insight into the next decade or so, with some great real-life examples. Probably better aimed at people already in perimenopause but a great guide to a still under-explored period of women's lives. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This is part memoir and more general musings on the menopause by mum and high flying career woman Lorraine Candy, who had a prestigious and demanding career as a magazine editor. She imparts her own experiences, interspersed with stories from other middle aged woman and their experiences of menopause and ageing, accompanied by advice and wisdom. This is a really enlightening read that genuinely touches on emotions and experiences that are so universal and widespread but only recently seem to be part of mainstream discussions. The focus is positive and the style chatty and relatable, with familiar discussion of how when children leave the nest, mothers sometimes feel their identity is completely changed or even lost altogether. Her warm and wise words offer reassurance for those of us 'on the brink' (I'm 43!)
