An absolutely stunning book of positive poems; these 50 poems full of inspirational and encouraging poems are a joy to read, hear, and see as they are so beautifully illustrated. Although the principal audience is young people, these poems have such joyous messages of love and self care that can be appreciated by the entire family. The colourful poems provide calm advice in the midst of a chaotic daily life. Mulling over poems such as Stay Calm or Leave Your Worries Behind create a little breathing space in a busy day and a moment to reflect. Poems like Stay Weird and Carry Compassion are just so inspiring, and I can only hope that my own children bring these lessons with them through life. Everyone should have a copy of this book. #beingyou #beingyoupoemsofpositivity #danielthompson #netgalley

This really is a beautiful, poetry book, packed full with positive messages. I loved it and am already thinking about how I could use it in the classroom and in assemblies. The illustrations are also lovely and colourful, adding to the overall feeling of the text. Will definitely be buying this and recommending to others!

With the current focus on the importance of children's mental health I would suggest primary schools should invest in buying a copy. The book contains an excellent selection of poems covering a wide variety of feelings and emotions that I feel you could always manage to find one to tie in with your school assembly focus or health and wellbeing lessons in class. They should facilitate good discussions and promote positivity, having a growth mindset and building resilience.

This was an amazing anthology of poems focussing on being yourself and having a positive outlook on the world. Each poem has a steady rhythm, with most having a clear rhyming pattern and each shared a message about the importance of being yourself and learning from every day moments. With poems about compassion, friendship, learning from your mistakes and embracing your individuality there is a poem for every PSHE lesson and aspect of working together. These would be great to share with children and discuss the lessons being taught, or simply read aloud to expand experiences of poetry. The bright text and pictures also make it easy to engage with the content.

Being You by Daniel Thompson is an amazing collection of poems about being positive covering themes like friendship, self-belief, confidence and failure, as well as many more important themes which often feature a large part of both children's and teenagers' lives.

I liked this collection of poems as they really draw the reader in with some of the deep themes and the successful use of many poetic devices and rhythms which give the poems some pace. I had a great time reading through these poems and found it extremely hard to put the book down, I really was drawn in and found some of the poems in particular were especially thought-provoking. I cannot say there is anything I disliked about this collection of poems. They were all very good.

I, therefore, rate this book 4 stars as it is a very good collection of poetry which really draws the reader in and makes it incredibly hard to stop reading. What's more, these poems talk about some really important topics but in a more interesting and creative way than many of the other books covering the same topics which more often than not take the form of self-help books. I would greatly recommend this book. I would like to thank both Net Galley and Collins Reference for providing me with an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book in return for a positive book review.

Being You - Poems of Positivity
By David Thompson
Illustrated by Julia Murray
Published by Collins

A gorgeous book full to the brim with poetry: some that rhyme, some that don’t, some to make you laugh, others to make you reflect.
Read, listen, share and enjoy this collection of short poems about all things POSITIVE.

Life can be tough! No matter whoever you are, how young or old you are, whether you are rich or poor. So words on a page accompanied by simple but beautiful illustrations makes this collection accessible and appealing to all.

This is such a powerful and purposeful book that NEEDS to be shared with many. Every classroom should have a copy of this book to fill the walls full of positivity and to spread the ripples to one and all.

Wow! This is the book that I have been waiting for. Being You is an anthology of poems teaching children about emotions, empathy, how to navigate challenges and having a positive and purposeful outlook on life. As an Emotional Literacy Educator and lover of poetry, there’s no doubt that it will become my manual. What I loved the most was the breadth of emotions and challenges that this book covers. Not only is Daniel Thompson’s poetry fantastic but the illustrations are super too. All of this makes it a must have book in all primary and secondary schools and for all families looking for ways to support child mental health. Thank you Collins Publishing, Daniel Thompson and NetGalley for sharing this book with me.

What a delightful book. My older grandchildren like to dip in and out of this and some of the poems are suitable for them to read to the younger children. My youngest especially likes ,share your feelings and can recite it herself (with acting, hand gestures and loud noises). Something for everyone in this book and excellent illustrations too !

We homeschool and I found this book to be a great addition to our daily activities.

The poems are inspiring and really connected to my children.

There are 50 poems and we are enjoying reading one a day. This gives a great basis for a conversation about the poems theme, such as friends, people's differences or worries.

Encourage your children to read these poems as they are sure to see their thoughts and feelings written in the words of a few of the poems.

Beautiful illustrations too!

Being You is the most beautifully inspiring, beautifully illustrated, collection of poems for children.
This is the perfect book for reading aloud to your children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Confident readers will also enjoy reading it to themselves. It’s the perfect collection for them to lose themselves in or to dip in and out of whenever they need a little comfort and reassurance.
Each poem offers young people the best advice for a happy, healthy relationship with themselves and the world they’re growing up in. In fact, there are lessons throughout this book for us all, no matter how old we are.
Positive thoughts for a positive life.
I read the kindle edition of this book, which was lovely, but I recommend you purchase the hardcover edition if you can as I imagine it must be stunning and the best way to fully appreciate the illustrations as well as the words.

I hadn't heard of Daniel Thompson before discovering this book, but I may well be a convert. His poems have a wonderful rhythm to them, making them fun to read. As the name suggests, the poems are themed around positivity, making reading them an uplifting experience. As I read each poem, it was easy to see how each, could enrich the classroom and how the issues some children face, could be supported using these. The illustrations (drawn by Julia Murray) are vibrant and dazzling. They perfectly mirror the happy, positive vibe found within the poems. Being You, is the perfect collection of poems to help positively mould the minds of our children enabling them to see their self-worth and strive to achieve the best version of themselves.
