This was an amazing book! I think I liked it better than The Housemaid. I ending was a twist I wasn’t expecting, yet I shouldn’t have been surprised! I really like how this book can be read as part of the series or as a standalone. I can’t wait for my next Freida McFadden read!
Millie is back in the second installment of this series. She is hired by a new wealthy family to clean and cook. Millie has only seen the husband, and she’s directed not to bother his very ill wife. She is trying to mind her own business but she’s hearing noises coming from the wife’s room…
I loved The Housemaid, which is the first book in this series. Though technically this book could be a standalone, there are definitely references and winks to the first book so I’d recommend reading them in order. It’s best to go into the books blind so you can enjoy the unpredictable twists and turns. Freida McFadden writes the best unreliable narrators. Millie is an anti-hero who you can’t help but root for. I really enjoyed how both books had multiple narrators to help explain the plot twists and help every piece fall into place. If you enjoyed The Last Mrs. Parrish and the Wife Between Us, you should absolutely read both of the books in this series!
I’m so grateful to Bookouture, Netgalley, and Freida McFadden for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
As always, Freida McFadden doesn’t disappoint with this sequel! I had no clue what direction this story was going, but I enjoyed every second. Millie (and Enzo!) continue to be favorite characters of mine. I hope to see more of them in the future.
I was so happy to be able to read an advanced copy of McFadden's latest thriller. Thanks to NetGalley for the chance for the purpose of this review.
I'm giving it five stars because I couldn't put the book down. The story was well written with short chapters and an unique cast of characters. I felt like I was part of all the excitement! I was invested in the outcome from the first couple of pages.
This book is slightly related to The Housemaid which I also devoured! You'll have to read to find out how!
Oh my twist, turns and darkness, this book was just phenomenal. If you enjoy a good revenge book filled with things you never saw coming then run to get this book.
Highly recommend reading The Inmate first then The Housemaid before starting this one because they all tie in (quite beautifully I may add) to this one.
Thank you netgalley, Bookouture and Freida McFadden for providing me with this ARC.
This review will be posted on my bookstagram (2GirlsandaBookcase) as well as Amazon and Goodreads.
I was beyond excited when I received a NetGalley from Bookouture ARC for Freida's latest book and I was not disappointed. This book pulled me in from the first page and never let go. This author is one of my favorites and for very good reason. The story line flows effortlessly and keeps you guessing until the end which you will NEVER see coming. I love, love, love the fact that I am always surprised and shocked by the twists and turns that are signature Freida. She definitely leaves you wanting more. If you are a fan of psychological suspense then I highly recommend her books. Once you start you won't want to stop until you have read all of them. I guarantee it!
The perfect sequel to my favorite Freida book! I enjoyed getting to read more about Millie, and this book was just as twisty as the first! I can’t get enough of Freida’s addicting page-turners. I devour them every single time. 5 stars! Thank you to Freida and NetGalley for the early opportunity.
Freida does it again !!! I could not put this book down . I absolutely loved it. Without giving anything away this book picks up right from part 1. I highly recommend! This book is definitely a thriller and loved every second of it. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this advanced copy .
The Queen of twists is back again and has once again out done herself. I was hooked from the very first paragraph and literally stayed up all night to finish this one. Twist after twist with both Characters that you'll love and despise, you won't be able to trust anyone. This is an addictive sequel to the wonderful The Housemaid and you'll be sucked right it.
Now this is a follow up I looked forward to! Normally the sequel never lives up to the first but in this case, I enjoyed it just as much! The Housemaid's Secret reunited us with Millie who has spent the last few years with her boyfriend Enzo helping women from abusive husband's. She decides to walk away from that and go back to college while just being a regular Housemaid.
She is contacted by Douglas Garrick to help maintain his penthouse apartment. He seems nice and the apartment is gorgeous except for his one odd rule: don't open the guestroom door. His wife is in there. Hmmm....is she ill? Or is it something more sinister? As Millie gets closer and closer to the truth, she exposes herself to more danger. Can she rescue Mrs. Garrick? Or is she the one who needs to be rescued?
Fantastic read by Freida McFadden! Twists, turns and an unforgettable ride. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
Always a fan of Freida McFadden. I one click her books everytime, without even knowing what the books are about. I do find however that sometimes they can be rather predictable, as I did with The Housemaid's Secret. Now, you won't guess eveything, there were a few times where I thought to myself " nice twist there McFadden"! So despite knowing were the story is going there is plenty of twists that you'll enjoy.
Although not my favorite read of this author , there was enough to keep me reading and enjoying it!
I will start by saying that I LOVED The Housemaid's Secret! I was really happy that it had it similarities to The Housemaid but went a whole different route at the same time. Normally when I read there is like one or two twists tops. In this book they just kept coming! Some I could predict, give or take some details, but there were others that made my jaw drop. The epilogue made me smile pretty big though!
Another good read from Freida. I love how her twists are so unexpected. It was nice to revisit a few familiar characters. This book was shrouded in suspense as I had so eager to turn the pages to find out what was going on. In true Freida fashion, everything was wrapped up nicely.
Thank you Freida McFadden, Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC of The Housemaid's Secret.
Wow, wow, wow ! 5 stars ! Loved it and didn't want the book to end.
It's a must read. Make sure to read The Housemaid first, as this book is a sequel.
The book is fast passed paced with twists and turns. It keeps you guessing from beginning to the end. You think you figured it all out just to be surprised. This book will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.
The release date for The Housemaid's Secret is on February 20th, 2023. Don't wait too long and get your copy ASAP.
I wholeheartedly recommend every book by Freida McFadden.
Freida did NOT disappoint! I didn’t find a single thing I disliked. Rarely in life do sequels make an equal (or bigger) impact, but this was exactly what we needed to satisfy our need for more of The Housemaid! Millie might be my favorite book character of all time, and dare I say I’d love to read even more of her! This book pulls in just enough details of the first book, without being repetitive. I highly recommend reading this if you’ve read The Housemaid, you won’t want to miss the twists!
Freida writes what I like to call "hallmark movie books". What I mean by that, they are so absurd and implausible its like watching a hallmark movie. Her books are fun to read and something I'd recommend to someone who is just getting into reading but for someone who mostly reads thrillers, hers just dont add up.
Another amazing read by Freida McFadden! A fab ride that picks up not long after the first one. However you don’t need to have read the first one to understand this. It’s fab. It twists, turns and smacks you in the face with its secrets! Read it now!
When we last left Millie in The Housemaid, she was taking on other “housemaid” jobs to help women out with some “light chores”. Now five years later, Millie is focusing on obtaining a college degree, and took a new job as a housemaid for a rich family, but something feels off….
Will Millie be able to move forward in her life, or will the past come back to haunt her or help her?
There is never a dull moment in this book. Each of the short chapters keep pulling you in. This one felt a little more predictable, but in a good way. For once I thought I figured it out, but in true Freida McFadden fashion, there is always a twist! The things that you do figure out keep you reading and wanting more just to see how it all unfolds.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Mystery and intrigue…characters who come alive on the pages of this novel. Murder and mayhem…secrets and the past…thanks to the publisher and to this talented and gifted author for this innovative story…it reads like nonfiction at times…I did not guess the ending…it was surprising at best. Who would have thought? Don’t miss this intriguing story about a housemaid who has a checkered past…who might have a future in prison…who seems to pick the wrong man…who can’t mind her own business…enjoy an afternoon with these characters.
Freida knocks it out of the park again with her twists and turns in this follow up novel to The Housemaid. This is a fun, quick read that takes what seems to be a straightforward story and turns it on it's side. Freida definitely has a talent for pulling the unexpected out of a story. Her books do not disappoint.
