This is a very simple picture book about our bodies, making it the perfect introduction to how our bodies work and how different they can be.
With fun, exciting illustrations, this book is engaging for young children as they're drawn to the images right away.
With simple sentences telling us about how our bodies work, how they can do different things, look differently and feel different, it's a great way to introduce bodies to children. I found it a little bit cliched at times, but this kind of language and concepts can be very effective with children so from a child perspective it's well-written.
A good book which will help open up conversations too.
This Book does a Fantastic Job at saying "It's OK to Be Cool in your Own Body", Highly Recommended.
(Thanks to Net Galley for this book).
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me acccess to this ahead of the 2nd ed. publication.
A great first introduction to our body from all it's functions and the way it works, to how we are all different and that is amazing and worthy of love and respect. Could use a bit more diversity in term of cultures and skin colours in the illustrations but otherwise a very good first read about body image and love!
This book focuses on body diversity and positivity and teaches young children to listen to their bodies. The book explores ways your body communicates with you such as stomach growls and talks about how children know their bodies best. Illustrations include many different skin colours and body types, including children with physical disabilities. The language used is very positive and encouraging and it is definitely written with a younger audience in mind. I would recommend this book for children in the age 3-7 range. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and rewiew this book!
This is a good introduction to talking to children about their bodies and appreciating our differences. It is written in basic words, easy for kids to understand. However, I think this book is missing opportunities to show more diversity. The cover art is predominantly showcasing people with lighter skin and I do not see many representations of different cultures.
I loved this book! It has such great ideas for adults and children. Body positivity is so important for children and it is important for the adults in their lives to believe the same thing.
I loved the diversity found within this book as well as the positivity about no body being better than another.
This book has such an important message in a format perfect for sharing with Nursery/Reception aged children - it was lovely to read aloud, and children would enjoy the 'interactive' parts where the children are encouraged to be aware of their body by stretching fingers and so on. I read it with Kitty (aged 7), and she felt that it was aimed at children younger than her, but she loved the positive meaning behind the book. We both feel that it's important for children to understand that everyone is different (I was born with a limb difference, so Cat and Kitty are passionate about this) and that you are you and that is special. I will be recommending this book to people who work with children.
This is a wonderful book for children about how amazing bodies are, everything they can do, and the diversity in size and shape of bodies. The illustrations are cute and the book really does a good job talking about bodies in a way that is understandable for children (although it is definitely geared towards children 5 to 7, I wouldn’t read this to my almost 3 year old). I love the message of acceptance and diversity and how no one body type is better than others.
Thank you to NetGalley and Jessica Kingsley Publishers for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
The concept of this book is lovely, promoting body positivity and care for young children. The illustrations are vibrant and imaginative. I liked how there was some interactive engagement in the text, almost like a mini-meditation.
That said, the tone comes across very preachy at times, and the book didn't capture my child's attention, so we would reach for a different book on this topic next time.
