It is never too early for Christmas!
I love all the decorations and the lights and not to mention the miracle of finding the one you love.
This book has a very Christmas Carol feel about it. Working out what is important and how to fix things.
The magic of christmas is alive and this book will keep you wanting to read more.
an easy cozy romance, this is definitely one for the open fire with a blanket and hot chocolate read.
Imagine seeing yourself through the eyes of other people - scary, huh? And inhabiting the body of those people - even scarier! But it could also be the biggest wake-up call of your life and that's the case for Eva, who has lost sight of what - and who - are important in her life. With ghostly elements, a nod to Dickens and exceptional writing, One Christmas Morning has something for everyone. I thought the scenes where Eva first realises what's happening – she wakes up as other people in the old country house she's staying in - were particularly well-handed. I found myself swept away by this special story that's not just for Christmas!
A great little book. Thank you gforbletting me read it. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and characters b
As usual in my reviews I will not rehash the publisher's blurb or the plot...you can find reviews of both types already if that's what you're looking for.
I liked the sound of the premise of this book, but sadly didn't enjoy it as much as I'd expected.
The main character - Eva - was not a very likeable person (though she improved somewhat as the book progressed), and none of the other characters particularly inspired me either (though I liked her Gran). I wasn't sure why Eva would choose Christmas to launch her business - surely before Christmas would have been better? One of many things that mis-chimed with me.
Additionally (trigger warning!) there were some rather depressing events running throughout the book - including miscarriage and infidelity - which led me to feel rather unhappy and unsettled whilst reading it.
So - yes it had some nice "Groundhog Day" style touches, and a hint of "A Christmas Carol" with the ghostly Gran vibes - but overall I can't say it was an enjoyable read for me - I'm sure other people would love it though.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. All opinions my own.
A quick and easy read that left me yearning for more. The writing was engaging, the story was charming and the charcaters are well developed. An enjoyable read
There's something about reading a Christmas book in the middle of the year that just feels... a little different. But that's what I did guys. For you.
One Christmas Morning is a gorgeous treat of a book that will have you crying, gasping and smiling.
Wrapped up in the launch of her new business, Eva is in the Cornish countryside for Christmas with her husband and some of her closest friends. But after 3 years of throwing herself into the business, she's a world apart and there is so much that hangs in the balance. Her very own Ghost of Christmas Present is there for her though, showing her what she's missing out on. But is it too late?
I have no doubt that this book is going to be a hit this Christmas. Everyone is guilty of upending that work/life balance occasionally and this book really does bring home the message that there is so much more to life.
What a great book.
Eva isn't particularly likeable initially but that is the point, for her to see the error of her ways and work on herself to become a better person, but through it all you always had glimpses of her love for James so the prospect of their relationship breaking down was real concern.
Whilst the concept sounds like a light airy read it deals - with sensitivity with deep topics.
I particularly appreciated that it recognised that a woman's career is important and can be a priority, but highlight that balance required.
I found this intriguing and also depressing. Eva seemed to be a thoroughly un likeable woman, but as the story developed, we could see that she had no idea how her personality was forcing other people into roles that they did not particularly want. I never really understood what the shop was or who the assistant was.
For me it was not the most enjoyable book, but it was very well written.
Thank you for the chance to read and review this book.
I honestly expected this book to be a cute Christmas love story. Well it was not that.
Tw: death, loss, grief, miscarriage, infertility, infidelity
This book gave me a Christmas Carol vibes meets Groundhog day.
Eva has been burying her head in the sand for the last three years after some major losses, pushing everyone close to her away, becoming a workaholic and a shell of a human.
So when she gets invited to a Christmas party with her friends at the place that holds all those bittersweet memories can she pull herself together.
Although the repeating of days did get repetitive I see why we had to go through them all. This book did have shock factor and it didn't sugarcoat the harder things in life.
I think it was a good book overall.
I was really intrigued by the premise of this book - that we would be following Eva through different Christmas days, as she sees things through the perspectives of those around her, trying to make sense of her life and how she's ended up where she is. My problem was, I just did not take to the character of Eva at all - or any of those around her, to be honest. For something set at Christmas, it was just totally devoid of all joy. Everyone's relationships were so tense and difficult, which made it a really difficult, slow, turgid read to me. To be honest, I had to race through it so it was over with! From the cover and the description I was expecting something lighter, with romance and magic. But the supernatural element didn't work here for me and honestly, the whole book just left me feeling depressed. It also seemed to give the message that women shouldn't strive for career success - or that if they do, they become over-ambitious and lose all sight of what else is important. Another niggle was that I didn't quite understand Eva's job - setting up a shop, selling lifestyle goods, I think - and why she would need an assistant. And why that assistant would give up her Christmas to work on the launch with her. The author does write well and I hope this appeals to other people, it just really left me cold.
It took me a while to get into the swing of this book, but once I actually sat down and engaged with it, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Eva and James, a magical Christmas mansion, and a variety of different Christmas mornings (despite all being the same Christmas morning). The concept is fun, a kind of groundhog day of Christmas, but with body hopping. Perhaps a bit like the Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, but less murdery and much softer. I loved the central relationships between Eva and her husband, her best friend, and *her* husband, a foursome with a long and intertwined history that's been badly impacted by a double whammy of grief a few years ago. Eva is self-absorbed and has thrown herself entirely into her work, so she's hard to like, but her growth across her week of Christmas is very sweet and enjoyable. Some hard hitting moments in this book too, some thoughts on inevitability and what we have the capacity to change. I thoroughly enjoyed this one, once I got going on it, but those opening chapters don't exactly endear the reader to our main character, as she's bulling her way through her life without realising how badly she's wrecked it.
This was such a gorgeous book! I sincerely forgot I was sent a copy a while back, the cover was so stunning I picked it again! Will be sharing full thoughts and a review soon, but this type of book is exactly why I do what I do and my favorite type of book. I know favorites should never be picked, but this one is just spectacular. A gorgeous romantic story with a holiday twist. Eva and James were simply stunning and I was rooting for their love from the beginning.

They say you know when you meet the one.
The moment Eva locked eyes with James over a library bookshelf, she knew she’d found her soulmate. Over ten years, they fell in love, got married and made plans to start a family. Until everything changed one Christmas three years ago, and they’ve been drifting apart ever since.
Eva hopes a friend’s Christmas party at an old manor house in Cornwall will give them the chance to reconnect… but the last thing she expects is to wake up on Christmas morning in the body of a different guest. As Eva’s forced to keep reliving Christmas Day from the perspectives of those closest to her, she realises just how much her life has fallen off track.
This was a really good story, with a sliding door take and a Christmas Carol vibe. This romance will make you question your life choices, much the same as the character does, at times it was rather sad and quite emotional. With a complex storyline, the plot is slowly revealed as Eva sees herself through the guests at the Christmas party's eyes.
It took me a while to like Eva, the main character she is such a hard-bitten, determined person and not in a good way. She is blocking everyone in her life out to get her business off the ground to the detriment of her husband, friends and happiness. When she has to visit an old house in Cornwall for Christmas with her friends strange things start to happen. There's a bit of magic in the old house and Eva gets a chance to see her mistakes and how they are affecting everyone, not just her. I grew to like Eva and I definitely liked her husband and friends.
I thought the author described grieving incredibly well and it actually made me think about my own losses and how I dealt with them. Although it is a Christmas story it is easy to read at any time and I would definitely recommend it.
I was so keen to read this book and it really lived up to my hopes for it. It follows Eva who has had a difficult time and is now fully focused on her work to the detriment of her friends and relationship. She is going away for Christmas and knows she has to do this for her relationship but all she can think of is work. Over the course of Christmas she keeps waking up in a different character's body and experiencing the day from their perspective. It really was such a fun and interesting book and felt a refreshingly different take on A Christmas Carol. I loved that Eva was so selfish and self-absorbed but that we get to find out why and what is hurting her, I adored seeing her growth through the novel and how she comes to certain realisations. Her relationship with her Gran through the book made me so emotional, it was beautiful. I loved this novel and will definitely read it again in the future.
I found it appropriate that I finished reading this ARC on Feb 2nd - Groundhog Day. This book is a bit like Groundhog Day meets A Christmas Carol.
Eva is in the final days of preparing to open her first real store after a few years running an online business. But it's Christmas Eve and she's promised her husband and friends that she'll come out to Cornwall and spent a few days with them at her grandmother's home Penhallow, sold and now a rental. Eva is driven - for causes unknown - and obsessed with the store to the point of ignoring her husband James and their best friends Hallie & Kian. If she continues down this path, she will be a female Scrooge - with no friends and nothing in her life but work. Penhallow is a little mysterious, perhaps haunted, or at least paranormally active, and it has been since Eva's childhood.. So after a disastrous Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the house and her gran conspire and Evan awakens, on Christmas Day, again and again, but each day in a different person's body. Gran appears from time to time to guide her. As the story progresses, Eva begins to see herself as others see her and how she has damaged all of her relationships.
One Christmas Morning is an uplifting story about family, both biological and self-made. The ending brings the reader full circle and it's satisfying and bittersweet. The characters are well-drawn and the setting is just right. This is a Christmas novel that will stay with you long after you've finished it.
Quotes I liked:
Everything works out better if you take time to process and find some balance.
Grief is funny like that. No two people tread the same path through it.
Many thanks to #NetGalley and #HQ for this ARC!
I’m so grateful for my advance copy of this beautiful book! It was so clever and magical and I really felt for Eva as the story progressed. To begin with I felt so frustrated by her choices but as I got to learn more about her and what she went through three years ago, I realised how these experiences were a catalyst for everything that followed.
Eva and James first locked eyes over a library bookshelf when studying at the same University together and knew they had each found the one. Over the next ten years they fell in love, got married and made plans to start a family together. But everything changed one Christmas three years ago and they have been drifting further and further apart ever since. This year, Eva and James have been invited to stay with their friends in an old manor house in Cornwall over the Christmas period. Eva hopes that things will be different and they will have the opportunity to reconnect again. The last thing Eva expects on Christmas morning though, is to wake up in the body of a different guest! Forced to keep reliving Christmas Day from the perspectives of those closest to her will Eva be able to break the cycle and save her future with James, before it’s too late?
This is such a moving and emotional book and I really enjoyed seeing which character’s body Eva would wake up in next, and what that day’s experiences would show/teach her. There are so many important messages in this book and I enjoyed highlighting sections as I was reading. For example how self-care is vital, how some things are outside an individual’s control and if things go wrong, it doesn’t mean they have failed. The descriptions throughout and the Cornwall setting was beautiful too and I enjoyed the journey I got to go on with Eva as the book progressed. It’s hard to say anything more without giving the plot, or the reason Eva finds herself reliving Christmas Day away, but I honestly cannot recommend this book enough!
This was such a beautiful and heartbreaking story that just captures you throughout the story, I couldn’t put it down. It was a very enlightening story about the choices we make and how they affect our loved ones and also their perspective of the situation too. It’s not over lovey dovey novel, it’s just perfect. This is going to be a big hit when it comes out and I can’t wait for others to read it. Well done to the author on such a fantastic and beautiful story.
One Christmas Morning by Rachel Greenlaw is a festive tale with a haunting twist - my favourite kind of book. This clever debut novel tells the story of Eva, a woman on a mission to open her shop in time for the January sales. There’s only one thing getting in her way - Christmas. This is no ordinary Christmas either, this is a Christmas that Eva has to keep reliving through the eyes of the people around her. As Eva repeats Christmas day, each time in a new body, she discovers what is important to her and learns that if she doesn’t change her ways she will lose it all.
Be warned, One Christmas Morning is not a lighthearted romantic comedy. Greenlaw doesn’t shy away from difficult topics, such as miscarriage and grief. Eva’s trauma is evident from the first chapter, but it is only as the story progresses and we get to know her that we find out what she went through three Christmases ago. By writing in the first person, Greenlaw skillfully reveals aspects of the plot as they are realised by Eva during her journey of self discovery.
I really enjoyed reading this book, it was poignant but also fun. I loved the gothic elements that Greenlaw included; wild moors, a mysterious old house and a ghostly grandmother, all of which made for a great Christmas story. I can’t wait to read it again in the run up to Christmas.
This was a really good read, the concept of the book is horrifying… seeing your life and Christmas through the eyes of your nearest and dearest - no thank you! Somehow this really works and I really enjoyed the journey
This was a tough read, a good one, but still tough. Groundhog day romance paired with Christmas is always such a hit. I've loved nearly every books that had similar theme and One Christmas Morning did not disappoint. Let me just say, what a stellar debut! I feel for the cover first, and now I fell in love with the book.
My heart was in my throat during the entirety of this read. Eva spiraling was a such a gut-wreching sight. The way she seemed unlikeable at first and how she closed off from everyone, but we know she's making those choices because life has forced her to toughen up. I am so proud of her character development!
This book may have been emotional and intense, but it still managed to end on a hopeful note. How our loved ones will always be there for us and how we can always find our way back to each other.
I can't wait for the world to get their hands on this book!
Thank you to NetGalley and Team HQ for providing me an ARC of this book inexchange for my honest review.
