I usually love an easy to read Christmas tale, but this one was a little more complex than the usual, I found the cover didn't quite fit with the story. However, I did still enjoy it's concept.
I must admit that I nearly gave up on this book as I don’t like supernatural or ghost stories but having read a few reviews I decided to keep going. It is hard to describe this story. The best way to explain it is to say that it reminds me of the story of A Christmas Carol by Dickens. The main character Eva experiences Christmas Day over and over again from the viewpoint of different women who are with her on that day. Seeing herself from their perspective enables her to understand (in the end) where and why her life is falling apart. Enough said. It’s a great read and really different. One I will remember for a long time and made me think about how others see me!
A comfort read perfect for those winter months. It kept me gripped and gave me just what I needed after the Christmas blues had taken over
I really enjoyed reading this book over this Christmas. Think Groundhog Day meets A Christmas Carol, with lovable characters, raw feelings, and relatable moments. The concept was so unique and clever, with Eva waking up in a different party goers body on Christmas morning.
It was so heart-warming to witness Eva's character growth
I also loved how Greenlaw portrayed grief. It was so comforting and was elocuted beautifully.
This book will definitely stick with me for a long time. Highly recommend putting this book on your Christmas book list!
I received this arc from NetGalley
This book was phenomenal, I had no idea what to expect with it, but coudn't put it down.
It was like Sliding Doors with a twist, Eva has set herself up for a road to ruin, but has no idea! She is launching a new business and effectively takes her assistant away with her to a friends' Christmas party on the coast.
She tries to run away from the situation and back to London, but she is stuck in a loop! She wakes up again and again on Christmas Morning as different characters in the book to see their perspective on life and their perspective on her. This is full of love and also heartbreak that you can't imagine when you start the book!
This really made me think and makes you decide what is most important for you in your life.
I would advise anyone to read this!
Eva has a shop launch coming up; a business she's thrown herself and all her money into, and yet she still has to go to Cornwall to celebrate Christmas with friends...but when she's there, things happen that entirely change her perspective. Multiple times.
This book took a while to grip me; Eva isn't a likeable character to begin with and the story felt too interweaved to make sense however, make sense it does! Kind of like a modern slant on Christmas Carol in a very different way... It got to the point that I couldn't put it down!
Trigger warnings: death/grief, IVF, baby loss..
I was expecting an average Christmas Romance but this was so much more. Although some liken it to A Christmas Carol I was getting “Click” vibes, the Adam Sandler film. Like this film, the novel considers what is really important and it was this aspect that had me weeping at points (and reminding myself to ring my loved ones). I really enjoyed it,
This book was a perfect definition of comfort read. It was an absolute joy to read and finish it. It deserves all the stars, from me!!
This was such an interesting concept and a joy to read. I loved that Eva was the main character, but we still got so much from the other characters too.
If you're looking for a unique Christmas read, this is it!
I really love books about Christmas & I enjoyed this one. Thanks for the opportunity to read & review this book.
This wasn’t a bad debut novel, however I found the cover and description different! It was a lot more in depth than a contemporary book.
I'd usually read a phone bill if it was set at Christmas, but this book was a no for me. I couldn't understand why a workaholic woman launching her own business that weekend would decide to get in a car and take her assistant to a remote house party with no Wi-Fi signal. If someone can explain that one to me, I'll read the rest of it.
I absolutely love a feel good Christmas story and this certainly ticks the boxes (after a whole load of feel- pretty- awful time slips!)
Eva and James are struggling and as they argue and bicker through Christmas Eve at a friends big Christmas house party.
Focused workaholic Eva is managing to spoil the Christmas of not only her immediate family but also her close friends and even her workplace assistant. As things go from bad to worse Eva suddenly finds herself back at the beginning and from a new perspective.
Combining some time slip magic with a bit of romance, a ghost or two and a bucket load of emerging self awareness this is a great alternative to the traditional Christmas happy-ever-after trope.
I was struggling to find a Christmas read this year until I stumbled upon ONE CHRISTMAS MORNING by Rachel Greenlaw. Full of everything that makes you think of Christmas, including the struggles – unwanted family gatherings, relationship tensions, organised fun – as well as the spirit of the season, – healing wounds, making up for lost time, love and caring towards one another, as well as a little magic. I thoroughly enjoyed following Eva as she is forced to relive Christmas Day until she learns to treasure what matters most. With CHRISTMAS CAROL and IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE vibes, I could see this on the screen as Christmas viewing. Heartwarming and enlightening, teaching us to make the most of the close to us and to focus on what matters most.
A great little festive read that would translate perfectly onto the TV screen! A twist on A Christmas Carol that really worked well. I liked all of the characters and the setting of a large house in Cornwall.
Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. This was an enjoyable read and an interesting concept, which was excuted well.
Groundhog day at Christmas!
Eva must relive Christmas over again, but not just as herself!
Eva and James seemed to have it all, but then it broke apart and Eva buried herself in work, neglecting her friends and her husband, expecting her assistant to give up he Christmas for the launch of Eva's business.
The ghost of Christmas, in this case Eva's beloved granny, challenges Eva to try and put things right, in her marriage, in her friendship, in her life.
Loved the story, loved the idea of seeing the days played out through other characters. Didn't enjoy the business parts of the story, they just didn't have the same zing as the human stories.
Many thanks to Netgalley for this ARC.
More thought provoking than I was expecting and an interesting look at issues including infertility and friendships as we age. I liked the fact that the supernatural elements were explained, however I don't think this needed to be a Christmas book, I think it would have worked in any long weekend setting
Great concept but I didnt really like the character and the development/ her reason just wasn't very believable for me.
I had to keep reminding myself that this is a debut novel. It read like the author has been doing this for years. The cover itself is beautiful and really invites the reader in. The synopsis has the reader rareing to go. However the storyline itself is deeper then first seems covering many topics with some difficult ones done with delicate care and attention. Proving that life is hard and difficult but also beautiful
