Princess Louisa (Isa) doesn't believe her brother is dead. Running away from her chaperone and protector, she soon loses her horse and her money. Samuel, the Marquess of Ranleigh, rescues Isa, but she hides her identity. On the journey to find her brother, she gains friends, friends she's never had before, except for her brother. It's not long after Isa's life is threatened. Is she wanted dead or alive? Can a Marquess marry a princess? What about the princess's imposter? Where is her brother? Kisses only. This a cliff hanger and the next book is not available in ebook. I found an expensive soft print online.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.
A rather sweet story about a really aive young princess and her romance -and the rake who changes his ways once he encounters her as his protective nature is engaged. Despite her telling a load of lies, and getting into lots of hot water on the way, he helps her, and pays for her - withoout expectation of reimbbursement - as the journey turns into weeks rather than days. And then her brother is in hiding and sonot where she expects - and there are men chasing her - but why?
Nicely written and a fun read.
This wasn't quite what I thought, but I did like the two leads quiet a lot, it ended quite abruptly so maybe I need to read the next books too and the one before it!
I must confess this book almost hit the wall a number of times, but, somehow, I kept on reading. Isa is a Germanic princess who runs away from her English boarding school when she’s informed that her brother is dead. She’s sure he’s not and sets off to find him. She’s completely naive, has her horse stolen and is cheated out of her money on the first day. She has no idea of manners or what things cost, and she’s thoroughly irritating. She’s led a life of papmered luxury, has never had to do anything for herself and still tries to order people about imperiously. She’s trying to blag her way on to the mail coach to Margate (her brother’s last known whereabouts) when Sam, newly come into his title and (impoverished) estate and trying to turn over a new leaf, comes to the rescue and instead of continuing on his errand he tells the chit (going under the name of Miss Gunter) he’ll take her to Margate. Shortly thereafter they acquire a recently retired lady’s maid as a chaperone. Sam makes it seem that Margate is only a couple of days travel away (and it probably is by mail coach) but over thirty days later they are still on their way, having tried to avoid men who seem to either want to take Isa back to school, or kill her. The villains are never more than cardboard cut-outs. Yes, if this seems improbably, it is. Isa does gradually learn to say thank you, and of course the pair begin to fall in love. I’m not sure whey. If I’d been Sam I’d have bought her a coach ticket and sent her on her way. It takes 35 days to reach Margate from Reading, and not much happens on the journey. Sheesh! I wanted to like this, I really did, but Isa was so damned irritating.
This was a fun cross genre read! It’s one part historical romance and one part adventure. When a princess goes looking for her lost brother she enlists the help of Marquess Sam. This was a great holiday read with a strong female lead and likeable side characters. The romance kind of takes a backseat but the journey itself is enjoyable. Just enough excitement to keep you reading but more swooning romance scenes would have made it better.
Book ends on a cliffhanger so be warned! I’m eager to read the next book.
Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and author for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
I quite enjoyed the first book and I was looking forward to getting into the sequel. The first half seemed promising and engaging but by the time both MCs declared they were in love I started to really struggle with it. It’s an unfortunate case of telling instead of showing. They did not show enough chemistry on page to convince me and I needed more intimate moments (I’m not taking sex I know this is chaste, just intimacy). By 80% I’d had enough of the micro chapters and didn’t like the 3rd act drama. I skipped to the end and it was underwhelming. I did love the cat though, we need more cat love in romance books!
This is the second book in "The Royals & Rebels Series". I also read the first and plan to read the third.
Princess Louisa has been informed that her brother has died at sea. She does not believe the news stories and goes on a hunt for him. While searching for her brother, she disguises herself so people who are helping her do not know her true identity. This book has adventure, love, a small amount of mystery and excitement. I enjoyed it very much. If you like historical romance or romance in general, you will enjoy this book.
There is a cliffhanger to the third book, but you do not need to read the first book to get into this one.
Thank you to Meredith Bond, NetGalley and WOLF Publishing for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
All I can say is that you have to read the book! My gosh, never have I had so much fun reading the number of challenges that Isa, Sam and Mrs. Brompton has found themselves to be in. The excitement during these dire moments was fantastic. I believe that it made reading the book go even faster. I enjoyed all the fun with the characters, mainly with Isa. Isra’s character may be written in as a princess, but she certainly didn’t act as one. The mystery that Sam and Isa chased and ran from was very entertaining. These moments were a page turner indeed. I often found moments of the story were realistic and informative. The romance part was sweet and pure. I liked the fact that the writer kept this part clean allowing the readers to enjoy all what the book offered.
A murder mystery adventure story with romance too. The only down side for me was the cliff hanger at the end, Will need to read the next book to solve the mystery.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for this arc. This was a sweet romantic story. I liked the adventure and the characters were great together.
Action packed adventure trip, murder attempts, mystery learning how the world works and falling in love. A fast paced packed novel that was so very hard to put this down. The only draw back is that while the romance is sorted the mystery is not and this book finishes on a cliff hanger which i'm not keen on. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Princess Louisa runs away from boarding school to find her brother, certain that reports of his drowning death are mistaken. She soon realizes she's utterly unequipped to make her way in the world unassisted—she doesn't even know how money works. Fortunately, Lord Ranleigh, a handsome stranger, comes to her aid. He takes her toward her seaside destination, even hiring a lady's maid to accompany them. Isa doesn't dare reveal her true identity, nor why she's being pursued by the men hired to find her. But she's truly shocked when she discovers that someone is trying to kill her. Will she lose Raleigh's trust when he learns the truth?
This second installment in the Royals & Rebels series is a fun, light-hearted adventure romance. While the romance is resolved in this book, the mystery is not. The books in the series are best read in order.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Something happened along the way to finding her brother… . Action packed adventure, assassination attempts, learning courtesy and growing up and friendship but most of all, falling in love.. So very hard to put this book down, just like the previous one in series! Third one in the series promises to be just as amazing!
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and I am leaving my review voluntarily.
Adventure, budding love, flashes of humor, and a hint of betrayal...all these are found in this second installment of the Royals & Rebels series. Princess Louisa or Isa is told by a malicious school mate that her brother, Prince Nik, has drowned. Refusing to believe that, she sets out on her own to find him herself. She runs into a little trouble and is rescued by Sam, Lord Ranleigh and a lovely older woman, Mrs. Brompton. Over the course of 2 weeks, these three along with the carriage driver Mr. Davies embark on a heck of a trip. In the end it lands them back in London, where the young lady from the previous book who has taken Isa's place is about to be crowned heir to the real princess's father. The book ends on a cliffhanger, right at the critical moment of the investiture ceremony. Naturally it's evident that the finale will be about the prince, which I'm looking forward to. I enjoyed the book very much, despite the sometimes overly imperious attitude of Isa. I get that she's used to having her every need met, no questions asked. But someone should have taught her the simple courtesy of saying 'thank you' when she was a child. Good thing Sam enlightened her. The other scene I enjoyed was her moment with the dogs. Her conversation with them was funny, especially since it seemed they understood her. Again, it was an enjoyable read, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance that is a mix of passion & adventure.
Thanks to NetGalley and Wolf Publishing for this advanced copy, which I voluntarily read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Princess Louisa of Aachen-Düren knows that her brother isn’t dead. She knows it deep in her heart, no matter what the newspapers say—and she’s going to prove it. But when Nik isn’t where he should be, she has no choice but to go out and search for him. How hard could it be to travel from Oxford to Dover… on her own… with no money and no means of transportation because her purse and horse have both been stolen? She’s never been on her own, but she’s not going to let these obstacles stop her. When she’s offered a ride by a handsome nobleman, she makes up a fake identity, certain her bodyguard will be sending men to find her.
Samuel, Lord Ranleigh, is off on his very last adventure before settling down and becoming respectable. He briefly stops in Oxford and discovers a clueless, beautiful foreign young woman trying to wheedle her way onto the mail coach. This might be the opportunity he needs to prove to his mother and the world he’s responsible. Ranleigh has no idea what he’s getting himself into when he offers the girl a ride.
Picking up strangers and stray animals is the least of his worries when men begin to follow them, trying to kidnap Isa. But when bullets begin to fly, he knows he must do everything within his power to protect this beautiful, if not entirely honest, young woman in his care.
Princess Louisa believes her brother isn't dead. Samuel doesn't know that Louisa is a princess.
This book ends on a cliffhanger. I don't like this fact.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley.
This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
