A very enjoyable you know they'll get together in the end but how will they get there type of rom-com. Both characters are funny and relatable.

The Love Wager is an extremely happy book that provides such great escapism, it's as if you're watching a rom-com in your mind. Perfect for you if you're looking for a light-hearted, HEA book this summer!

I absolutely loved The Love Wager. The main characters were brilliant and I really became engrossed in their story. It was so well written I didn’t want it to end. It was very romantic and i recommended it to everyone.

“Kissing Hallie in the security line - that was something else entirely.
That was like coming home.”

I can’t get over how happy this book made me. I was giddy smiley kicking feet happy.

I fell head over heels for the characters and I couldn’t get enough of them, I wanted to scoop Hallie up and protect her like my life depends on it. Jake was a heartthrob that I will gladly read about again and again.

The storyline was cheesy but I couldn’t help but love every minute of it.
fake dating 👍🏻
wedding dates 👍🏻
friends to lovers 👍🏻
one bed trope 👍🏻
the cutest love story I’ve had the honour of reading this month 👍🏻

This book was such a fun read. It’s my first book by this author but I will definitely be checking out more of her work and going back for book 1 in this series.

I adored both Hallie and Jack and I loved their friendship. I’m not a fan of insta love so really enjoyed seeing their friendship grow and their banter was entertaining. It is a pretty slow burn though, if that's not your thing. The dual POV helps you fall in love with both of them and you can feel their chemistry. It had everything I love in a romcom. It was both funny and adorable.

The only reason this wasn’t a 5 star read was the cursed third act miscommunication breakup. It was kind of ridiculous and felt unnecessary.

I received a copy of the ebook via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

I do Love Lynn Painter but this felt a little slow for me. It took me a while to get into it but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

4.5 stars
I'm such a sucker for Lynn Painter's writing and while this was the first adult book that I had read from her, it once again felt like this was the kind of story that you could see on the big screen as a great rom com.
I've never been a huge fan of friends to lovers-style stories but the fact that Hallie and Jack had already drunkenly hooked up definitely put an interesting spin on that trope.
And speaking of tropes, I loved seeing the one bed trope (a personal favourite of mine), fake dating at a family wedding and how good their banter was.
You could feel a real friendship (and a bit more) blossom between the pair.
Was I frustrated that Jack wouldn't just tell her how he felt? Yes. But I did like seeing the guy fall first.
I also liked that even though I knew that there would be a third act breakup, it wasn't drawn out too long and let both of them think about just how much the other meant to them.
I haven't read Mr Wrong Number, the first book in this series but I will definitely be going back and reading it.
This was just such a quick, easy and heartwarming read.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I struggled with this one.

I felt it was quite a slow start to the book and dragged a little.

I liked Jack, I thought he was a kind caring, gentleman of a guy and definitely good for Hallie. He was funny and up for a laugh and always trying to do something different - up for a challenge.

Hallie, she was more laidback and although wanting romanced, she wasn’t ready for seeking it to the same extent as Jack. I liked how the bounced off each other.

I did complete the book and although finding it very slow (a slow burn too), I did enjoy it. Jack and Hallie had their moments and it lead to a happy ever after for them too.

Thanks to @netgalley, Lynn Painter and Penguin Random House for allowing me this ARC.

Not my favorite all time from Lynn Painter, but better than Mr. Wrong Number. The chemistry between Hallie and Jack flowed nicely and the ending had my heart all mushy. Can’t wait for the Objectors!

I really enjoyed this book, it was fast paced and the leading characters, Hal and Jack, were both interesting and engaging.

I found myself lost in this book from the get go.

I will also say I enjoyed that the story wasn’t dramatised, in a good way that you feel most books go, this one set its own pace and for that I am grateful.

Upon completion of the book I realised it was a second in a series and I’m looking forward to reading more by Lynn Painter.

5 stars from me

After reading all of Lynn Painter’s YA romance novels, I was excited to give one of her adult romance novels a read. The Love Wager seemed like the perfect place to give them a try. Although it is a companion novel to Mr. Wrong Number, you can definitely read this one on its own, which is what I did. I loved this book and its characters for so many reasons!

Hallie is turning over a new leaf. After belly-crawling out of a hotel room, she decides to become a full-on adult. With a new apartment, new wardrobe and new haircut, she downloads a dating app determined to find her new love. That is where she sees none other than Jack, the guy whose room she’d snuck out of. Discouraged by the lack of dating prospects, they make a wager to see who can find true love first but lines start to blur and how long will it be before all bets are off.

The Love Wager is told from dual POVs which is one of my favourite ways for a romance story to be told. It allows the reader to see both main characters, their thoughts and feelings and brings a new level of excitement to the book for me. It also has a few of my favourite tropes, friends-to-lovers, guy falls first and fake dating to name a couple! These tropes are used excellently and they helped make me love this book even more.

Jack and Hallie are wonderful main characters. I adored watching them become fast friends and then seeing how their relationship developed from there. Hallie is hilarious and certainly keeps Jack on his feet. Jack is caring and protective of Hallie throughout the whole book and it is so wholesome. The chemistry between the pair is extraordinary and undeniable. I loved watching them navigate their feelings and thoughts and I was so invested in the pair.

There is one thing I wasn’t a big fan of in this book, it was the plot following the miscommunication trope. I’m never really a fan of this trope especially when it is quite predictable what is going to happen. It didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment of the book though.

Lynn Painter is an author I will certainly be reading more books by in the future. I cannot wait to pick up Mr. Wrong Number very soon.

Overall, I would definitely recommend giving The Love Wager a read. Especially if you are looking for a fun rom-com with excellent humour throughout and if you are looking for a light enjoyable read!

I loved this - Jack and Hallie were great main characters - strong willed, independent but also a little broken. Their chemistry and banter was fantastic!

The Love Wager by Lynn Painter

5/5

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the arc in this book.

We first meet Hallie Piper and Jack Marshall at a wedding where Hallie is the bartender, and Vanessa causes a science due to her talking to Jack.

A Steamy night then lends itself to a friendship. They make friends who go on some fun adventure tother to the point they have a pact. When they go on dates, it's such a fun pact.

Then we get the famous fake friends dating trope halfway through the book with the whole family in the toe and Hallie's ex being the groom.

Jack and Hallie are both fantastic characters, and I thought I was laughing out loud at their antics. They are so well fleshed out that you feel you are with them, and you don't want to miss out on what will happen next. Jack and Hallie have the perfect amount of chemistry, and their banter is phenomenal.

We also have some spicy in this book. It's the perfect combination of humour, friendship and spicy. If you love the friend-to-lovers trope, this book is ideal for you.

I absolutely adored this book! The characters, humour and spice were all on point. Such a refreshing and fun romcom, I loved it even more than Mr Wrong Number! Hallie and Jack are so loveable - and they’re unbeatable together. I cannot recommend this enough if you love friends to lovers, great humour, loveable characters, the one bed trope and more!

5 stars!

I'm slightly obsessed with this book - that's how much I loved it.

It's funny, entertaining, quick to read, swoony, and overall brings immense joy.

Hallie and Jack are incredibly fleshed-out characters that seem to jump off the page and suck you into the story.

Absolutely will be recommending this book for anyone looking for a new romance rec, or to get into the genre, or really just for anyone looking for a happy book to read.

Thank you for the arc to Netgalley!

Let me start with that, I was through 30% when I realized that this book is connected to 'Mr. Wrong Number' and Jack is Olivia's brother and Colin's best friend. After I got a bit scared because that book was not my favorite. But Jack and Hallie bring me more joy than Colin and Olivia. The first few chapters made me question whether will I like it or not - not a fan of one-night stands and quick attraction but I love how Jack and Hallie became friends afterward. This book reminded me of 'Josh and Hazel's Guide to not dating' by Christina Lauren but still, it was a bit different. And it was funny which is always a win for me. The fake dating was so hot and the banter between Jack and Hallie was no question. It was truly a romcom I was looking for a while. And if you are looking for someting fun and hot you shpuld pick this up.

This book is my third book by Lynn Painter and I'm loving her writing more and more each time.

This follows Hailey and Jack, the pair of them meet at a wedding and spend the night together only for Hailey to sneak off right after. Jack and Hailey both end up on the same dating app and make a Wager with each other that which ever one finds love first will get a prize and win said bet. The story is filled with banter, charm and steamy scenes. My only reason for not giving it the full five stars was the third act conflict which I wasn't a big fan of but overall I really loved this book
