I requested this on Netgalley because I used to read so many of the authors books particularly the Blue Bloods and Au Pairs series so I was excited to see her writing in a YA thriller genre.
I was not disappointed and found this such an easy fun read, I didn't guess the twists and loved the podcast format which is pretty common these days but always enjoyable to me. I hope Melissa continues to write more in this genre.
Thank you for the review copy.
this book was one of the most nicely done thrillers of the past year,it keot me guessing until the very end and when i found out who did it my jaw dropped.highly recommend.
This book was really good, perfect for fans of A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder and Lies Like Wildfire, I thought I knew what I was getting myself in for, but that ending had me so shocked, I had to stay up past 1AM to finish the book.
The characters were great and, though I can’t speak on the accuracy of the representation, I will say that this book is very diverse and there’s even a service dog, which is something I’ve never encountered in any mystery/thrillers I’ve read.
I’d say definitely pick this book up when it’s released, you’ll be so hooked you won’t even realise the passing of time, like me!
2/5 stars. This book just didn't achieve what it was attempting to do. The book claimed to be a YA thriller the likes of Good Girl's Guide to Murder. But there was nothing that drew the reader in, nothing that kept the reader there, and nothing that endeared the reader to any of the characters. I found myself not caring about the murdered kid or who did it. They were all equally horrible people. Giving it 2 stars because I've read other things by this author and enjoyed it, so I know she is capable of writing a great story. I hope future books will show more editing and improvement.
I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
You know when you’re reading a book and you feel like it’s going to own you until you’ve finished it? Yeah. From the start, I knew it would have me invested and I needed to know how it was all going to end right from finishing the first few chapters.
We immediately joined Spencer post car crash after the accident and the many questions to the plot and story exploded in my mind and continued to as I read on. Was her ex boyfriend framed? Was there more to the ‘accident’ than met the eye? Was the amnesia about the whole thing caused by her head injury or something more sinister? Gah. A hundred questions.
This book was so easy to read and I loved how it had a mix of different formats. From Spencer’s perspectives to transcripts from Peyton Salt’s podcast and police reports. As Spencer and Jackson Chen continue to investigate what happens, I found myself reading faster and faster to find out what was going to happen!
At near the ending, my eyes were flying over the pages and even though there was a few unresolved plot points floating in the wind, I was pleased with how the whole thing was wrapped up. And also Ripley. My fav character and a dog we’d all love. He was such a good boy and he was a star in this book!
As soon as I saw One of Us is lying mixed with Big Little Lies I knew I had to read this book and I wasn't disappointed. I liked the writing, the story was absolutely compelling and the characters were well developed, flawed and hard to trust and I loved it
