This was a great story. I loved how the main characters connected with each other and how their relationship grew throughout the story. I definitely recommend this book!
Beth has been struggling for years to keep her family farm afloat. At 32, she’s still a virgin who spends all of her time working the land, helping her mother with Alzheimer’s and covering for her sister who needs a break in town every once in a while. When Evelyn Bremer visits, Beth is immediately suspicious. Evelyn wants to make her a generous offer for the farm, but Beth is determined to keep the property, even though she’s drowning in debt and may lose it to the bank anyway. As Evelyn tries to convince Beth, the two grow closer and can’t deny their chemistry, but they are complete opposites, maybe even mortal enemies. How could they possibly build something beyond attraction?
This book was just okay for me. I appreciated Beth’s position and stubborn nature at first, but as time went on, she annoyed me a little bit. I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers, so for the most part, the pacing was good there, but the back and forth after the attraction part shows up went a little long and far, I think. Overall, I was rooting for them, and I liked the supporting characters pretty well. It’s worth a read if you’re into enemies to lovers and first love kinda plots.
Hearts in the wind, unfortunately, wasn't what I expected. I really couldn't relate to the characters and didn't feel any ‘love’ from them. They seemed pretty opposite with no sparks or chemistry between them. Beth just wasn't a nice person at all...
The story certainly was rushed, things moved from one thing to the next.... with no empathy or understanding.
All in all., I hate to say this but the book felt loveless. This book definitely wasn't for me.
Every now and then, a story comes along and takes you by surprise and for me, this is one of them. Beth Richards, devoted to her family and the family farm. She has a quiet and determined stance about family and holding on to the struggling family farm. Beth has not been in a relationship and has never had sex or been interested in sex until...Evelyn Bremer, in the business of securing land and building windmills. When the two meet, it is clash at first, second, third sight. Both women are strong-willed and overtime, find that opposites attract. I also appreciated Beth's sister Kelsey and what was important in her life. Although the story jumps round a little, it does make you think about what is important in life, family and friendship.
Though I have some friends that are dealing with their parents and alzheimer, this read provided some day-to-day issues and progression of the disease that made me feel what Beth, her sister Kelsey and Evelyn were going through. Tough stuff.
Beth has the weight of her house on her shoulders, dealing with the debt of her family. With her sister Kelsey, she cares for a mother with alzheimer's.
Evelyn shows up out of the blue and wants to buy the land.
There is the struggle around the farm transaction but it is solved and the romance starts even if you do not expect it.
I liked that there was this health condition involved and things were not all roses. It did bother me how Beth wanted to decide things for her sister and I was happy to see that Kelsey did not agree with everything.
The MCs are so different and some parts happened really fast and I think that did not help in the romance part.
Even though the description piqued my interest and the plot in itself was interesting with the David vs Goliath theme and being a care giver for a loved one with Alzheimer, For me a romance needs to have at least 1 half of the main couple I could fall in love with or be friends with, if the emotional connection is lacking the book isn't working for me.
This was definitely the issue here, I disliked both Evie and Beth, their interactions, actions and reactions didn't feel authentic and the shift from instant hate to instant love was giving me whiplash.
All in all. not one of my better reads. Sorry to say.

Evelyn Bremer was riding high working to put new ‘power towers’ in every conceivable place. This is why she came to this small town in Western Texas. She spent a fair amount of time buying the land needed to set up some windmills. As for a personal life she made with hook-ups, her family wasn’t receptive to their daughter being a lesbian. The only one she answered to, besides herself, was her boss, Robert.
Beth Richards has known as long as she can remember that the family farm would one day be hers to run. Days were long and most were spent working the farm. She lives with her sister, Kelsey and her mother who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and with each passing day Beth knew she'd have to come up with a plan for her mom.
When Beth was first approached with the offer on buying the farm she wasn’t very receptive to the idea. Evelyn knew she had to do something for Beth to sell the farm. What was that????
I admit I had a problem with the characters but the plot was a good one. It just lacks the ‘wow, I could really be friends with’, I couldn’t because after reading the book I still didn’t like any of the characters. So the plot was good, but the cast was lacking.

A farmer struggling to keep the family farm fighting against a wind farm developer - I anticipated a David and Goliath scenario.
The leads in this book are Evelyn Bremer and Beth Richards. Evie will do anything to get hold of land for wind farms and approaches her job with cold focus. Beth at first glance is just a bedraggled rat standing in her way. Back to the wall (as per the file Evie has on her) Beth should take the easy route and sell. After all, she is dealing with a mother suffering from Alzheimer's and her sister is pushing for the sale but it's not in her DNA to give in easily. Or is it?
There's a quick dance through the sale of the farm, a girlfriend acknowledgement, seeming manipulation, talk of love then sadly Mama's passing. Everything moves swiftly. The romance angle of Beth being the holdout in the romance declaration and Evie being all in just didn't ring true and a few events were somewhat unbelievable.
While the author does a fine job of weaving the complexities of dealing with Alzheimer's in a loved one in the plot, the whole plot just felt rushed towards a happy ending.
This book is not for me I had to push myself so hard to finish it. Also, the dynamic between the characters made no sense to me.
To be completely honest I'm so disappointed the description was interesting and I expected something more.

Beth and her sister Kelsey are struggling to run the farm and while taking care of their Mother who has Alzheimer’s. Then there's Evelyn who always gets what she wants and this time she wants Beth's farm. She makes a offer buy the farm however Beth refuses it despite’s the fact she's fighting to keep the farm a float and knowing if she sells, she feels let her family down. Over time Evelyn grows closer to Kelsey and her Mother and eventually close to Beth and start to fall in love with her. But love is never easy and they face a rollercoaster of a ride to love
Enjoyable read, great romance with a heart felt family setting.
Beth Richards is stressed and overworked running her family farm in Texas. She and her sister Kelsey are also caring for their beloved Mama who has Alzheimer’s. Times are hard. Evelyn Bremer, a business woman from Dallas shows up wanting to purchase the farm to build windmills. Evelyn has done her research and knows the land is perfect and the Richard’s are in debt and on the verge of losing the farm. Of course Beth rudely rejects all offers until she sees realizes the reality of her situation.
Dealing with Alzheimer’s and its challenges for caregivers is realistically and heartbreakingly portrayed. Beth is interesting because she has been so married to the farm that at the age of 32 she has never thought of her own sexuality or needs. I honestly didn’t see Evelyn’s reason for being so attracted to Beth, the new baby butch. Beth stays in her stubborn angry accusatory mode for so long I hoped for Evelyn’s sake she would move on. I didn’t like how Beth behaves with her sister either.
The pacing and logistics were off for me as well. The first part of the book takes place in just a few days. And then there are some small time jumps and a quick wind up. Instead of taking the couple of months to reap the cotton harvest or deal with her livestock, everything has to happen in just a couple of days. In my state it can take weeks to get title’s researched before a sale of property, even for a cash sell. So the haste wasn’t logical to me. And Beth has tons of neighbors to attend a funeral but no one offers to help them load a u-haul or watch Mama while they do it.
I think because the romance wasn’t working for me I started getting nit-picky about little things. As much as I appreciate the author showing the difficulty of being a care giver I didn’t connect with the main relationship. The description of this book did an excellent job of reeling me in and I really wanted to like this story, but the romance between the two MCs felt shallow, awkward, and rushed. In less than a week the MCs go from enemies/bitter rivals to falling head over heels? Then in the blink of an eye they're over & then maybe not? The back and forth of Beth and Evie's relationship was exhausting and had no sense of authenticity. It just doesn't jive with the description of the story I read -- so much potential, but didn't make the mark for me.

Beth Richards is a struggling farmer trying to make ends meet and take care of her mother who has Alzheimer's with her sister's help. Evie is trying to buy Beth's farm for commercial purposes when she meets the Richards family.
This unfortunately was a DNF at 45% for me. Evie was extremely aggressive in the beginning with her attempts to buy the farm, I felt it made her extremely unlikable. Beth then goes from vehemently hating her to kissing her with no development of the relationship and once they kiss she asks if Evie's her girlfriend and Evie, a one night stand girl, says yes. I had some issues with the language and way Kelsey and Evie talk about Beth when she's not around and Beth's reaction to being called homophobic make her sound like she's lived under a rock since 1950. Beth seems to make decisions and take actions that seem very unbelievable and unreasonable like selling a farm and buying a house in cash over the course of 1 day. There are some scenes that are off as well with setting changes seemingly mid sentence. Overall this wasn't for me, though I hope that I'll enjoy future work by Williamz.

Beth and her sister Kelsey are struggling to run the farm and also taking care of their Mama who is suffering Alzheimer’s. Evelyn always gets wants she wants when she comes to Beth farm to offer a deal to buy it Beth refuses despite’s the fact she doesn’t know if she can keep it but it’s been in her family forever and if she sell it’s she feels let her family down. Evie grow closers to Kelsey and their Mama and eventually she and Beth gets close and starts to fall for each other but there are some ups and downs. I enjoy this read it’s hard to see your parents being sick and can’t do anything about it.
Beth Richards is set on one thing only, to keep her family’s farm. Having to devote all her time to maintaining the farm and caring for her mother with Alzheimer’s does not leave her with much let alone for love. When Evelyn Bremer knocks on her door, she not only has to give up the farm, but her heart as well.
3.5 stars. This is an enemies to lovers romance that was a quick read with some angst. It also touches on Alzheimer’s and its challenges on caregivers. Country girl Beth who has never been in a relationship and city girl who is determined to land Beth’s farm might clash but learn that letting go might be the answer to happiness.
I just reviewed Hearts in the Wind by MJ Williamz. Thank you NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for the ARC.
Beth and her sister still live at home on their family farm. Her sister mostly takes care of their mother who is battling Alzheimer's while Beth tends to the farm and all the chores that need to be done. It's not easy for either of them so when a mystery woman comes around with the intent of buying the farm.
Beth isn't interested in selling and kindly tells Evelyn so but that isn't going to stop her.
Now as Evelyn is doing her best to get what she wants she finds herself attracted to the hard working, hard headed Beth.
This is a great romance with a heavy-hearted family situation added.
