Katie keeps getting better and better. She never disappoints. I have loved this series since the beginning and can't wait for more! We meet Stella and Rhodes. Stella is sheltered and from a different realm. Rhodes is a lone dragon and an assassin. But Rhodes develops a protective instinct for Stella. Instead of kidnapping, he protects. Stella falls hard and fast for Rhodes, who she thinks her Grandma sends to protect her. There is lots of action, drama, and lots of steamy time together. You get to catch up with your past favorite characters and a look into the next spin-off series. Katie brings her characters to life and I love how they all intertwine in each series. I can't wait for more!
"I received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review."
This was an entertaining, well-written book. It was imaginative, steamy, action packed and held my interest. I wanted to find out what was going to happen next and how it would turn out. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is book 6 in the Ancients Rising series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series as well as other books by this author.
I received this ARC from Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review. This is the 6th book in the Ancient Rising Series. This book was a quick and enjoyable read. Reus has put together a great series with some exciting characters and adventures. Stella has been kept in her kingdom by her parents since half of her family was slaughtered. Now that her sister has come home, she has been allowed to go to New Orleans on a mission. On her way she is nearly kidnapped by saved by Rhodes, who has been secretly following her for a job. Rhodes is a hired assassin who has been asked to kidnapped Stella for the Fey King. Rhodes decides to keep Stella for himself instead of turning her over to the Fey King. Stella is able to convince Rhodes to allow her to finish her mission for her grandmother. During this mission Stella and Rhodes fall in love but Rhodes is keeping a secret which Stella finds out and can’t believe what Rhodes was keeping to himself. Rhodes has to figure out how to get back Stella because she is his mate and he won’t survive without her. Pick up this book and fly into another adventure with the Ancients.
Rhodes, an assassin hired to kidnap Princess Stella, sets out on his mission thinking that she's a bad person and he's justified in kidnapping her and taking her back to the Fae. There's only one problem, she's not the villain that they made her out to be and his dragon wants to protect her. The longer Rhodes is around her the more the feelings he has for her deepens and he realizes that he'll never be able to hand her over to the Fae who want to do who knows what with her.
Stella is a dragon shifter from a royal line in the Nova Realm. She's been sheltered ever since her sister was lost to the family but now that her sister has been found and is back, she wants to head out on her own for a little while and experience life for once without her family sending bodyguards with her to keep her safe.
So when Rhodes finds her after she's been poisoned and she mistakenly thinks that he's a bodyguard her grandmother sent to keep her safe, he let's her believe that's who he is so he can be around her and keep her safe from the people who hired him.
Once she is back with her sister's friends, he stays around keeping her safe but not telling her the truth about who he is. They are both dragon shifters and their dragons know they are meant to be mates, they are attracted to each other and after a while they can no longer keep from being together even though he knows he's no good for her. It isn't until her sister and her mate show up that all hell breaks loose. Rhodes seems like he would be a hard guy to fall for but he has a big heart and really cares about Stella. I really liked him. Stella I didn't really like all that much but that might be because she's been so sheltered and isn't worldly and acts like she can take care of herself even though she is a bit naïve.
This was a good addition to the series but not my favorite book.
Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC via NetGalley but all thought and opinions are my own.
It’s the latest offering in the Ancients Rising series and Ancient Vengeance sees Nova princess Stella and rogue dragon assassin team up to hunt down a precious artefact stolen from Stella’s home. With the action moving from the Nova realm to New Orleans and then onto the Fae Domincary realm this book is an action-filled read. Stella is the cosseted, youngest daughter in her family. When she wants to spread her wings metaphorically, after the return of her long lost sister it seems the logical idea to send her to New Orleans so when she meets Rhodes on her journey she assumes he’s been sent by her overly protective family as a bodyguard not realising he’s not who she thinks he is and is hiding a huge secret from her.
This is a series where I just know I’m going to love each and every book and this was no exception. It is a bit of a slow burner despite the immediate attraction mutual between the hero and heroine and some hot chemistry but their relationship is allowed to develop gradually. As usual the heroine is just as kickass as the hero and even gets the chance to rescue him proving her strength despite her fragile appearance. I would have liked a little more of Rhodes background – he can’t just have appeared out of nowhere but perhaps more of his history will come out in future books. One of my favourite things about these books is catching up with some old friends and finding out what their characters are up to but we really need Alex and Christian to get it together. Its more than obvious they are meant to be just like Tom and Jerry or Scooby and Shaggy.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
I have read most of the previous books in this series and didn't realize that I had missed the previous book that reunited Stella's sister, Juniper with her family who thought she was dead. So, I need to get the book and read it!
This book picks up from the previous story line as Juniper is back home on her planet and since she is again the next in line to be queen, the stress is off her sister, Stella - who did not want to be queen.
An attack on her life is thwarted by Rhodes, who Stella believes is her new bodyguard but in reality was sent to kidnap her for a group of Fae.
Stella goes to New Orleans and we get reunited with many of the previous book's characters which is always fun for me. During this time, Stella and Rhodes get closer until she finds out that he is not her bodyguard.
The book was non-stop action and romance so it was hard to put down and I loved getting back into this world that had suffered "The Fall" and hope this is not the last one in the series!
Another excellent addition to this series. The world building that has went into the series shines in this story. I love the cast of characters. I loved the chemistry between Rhodes and Stella. The romance is both sexy and sweet. I loved the tension, suspense, and perfect dose of humor. This one also made me want more of Christian and "that lion!" This is a must read for fans.
It has been a long time since I’ve read a book with an alpha hero like Rhodes. He is EVERYTHING I look for and love. His protectiveness over Stella was extreme but well warranted. His jealousy over the thought of another male looking at her had me smiling widely as this is the stuff I dream about finding in the books I read. The fact that he was a dragon shifter…pure heaven
Ancient Vengeance by Katie Reus.
Stella is from a fierce and ancient dragon line, but when her kingdom was invaded and half her family slaughtered, everything changed. She’s been taught to fight, to protect herself, but now that one of her sisters is back after being thought dead, she realizes it’s time to make some changes. After years of being smothered, she needs freedom, to spread her dragon wings and experience life. So when her grandmother tasks her with a job in New Orleans, she jumps at the chance to strike out on her own and prove herself.
He's the assassin hired to kidnap her…
Dragon shifter Rhodes is a killer. An assassin. And he’s been ordered to kidnap the dragon princess Stella. He’s always finished his contracts—until he meets her. Now he’ll do anything to keep her safe. To claim her forever as his mate. But first they’ll have to overcome the danger stalking her—and then he’ll have to figure out how to get her to forgive him for betraying her.
Really enjoyable read. Love this author. Great story and characters. 5*.
In Nova, Stella lead a very sheltered life. Besides being a Princess, Stella's parents have been overly protective ever since her older sister was kidnapped. Now that her sister has returned, Stella is being allowed some freedoms. At her sister's wedding someone stole a crown and Stella has been charged with locating the culprit. Upon leaving her realm, someone shoots her with a very powerful poison.
Dragon shifter Rhodes has never known his family or what clan he was born into. At a very young age he was forced to learn to defend himself, because of this developed skill set he has found work as a paid assassin. Rhodes was hired by the Fae to kidnap Stella. After watching her for some time he realizes that Stella is not the danger to society the Fae said she was. Rhodes only kills those that are purely evil. He was following her when she was attacked and saved her life. Once Stella awakens, she and Rhodes agree work together to learn who attacked her and discover who took her families crown.
Even though Stella has lived a sheltered, regal life, her character has strength and intelligence. Rhodes is a strong male character who has had a hard life and even though he becomes possessive of Stella he is never dominating. I love the world Reus has built in the 'Ancients Rising' series and the interlinked relationships between the characters from book to book. I eagerly look forward to the next installment in this series.
Purchase 'Ancient Vengeance' when it releases on December 27, 2022.

I liked Rhodes. His confusion over what he was told and what he sees and then the moral dilemma of having to not fulfill a contract made for some interesting actions. Stella's desire to experience life and to explore a new horizon showcases her more carefree self.
Stella and Rhodes are dragon shifters and Ancient Vengeance revolves around their story. Rhodes is everything I like to read in a Alpha hero. He's very protective and worships the ground Stella walks on. Stella is a very sweet heroine who can also be fierce when she wants to be. She's come from a very sheltered life and Rhodes protection keeps her safe while allowing her more freedom than she is used too. They travel to New Orleans where King's territory is filled with all kinds of shifters, witches, vampires and humans. This is one of my favorite places to read in this series. I just love how they all come together to help each other out and to protect one another despite their many differences. I always enjoy seeing all the many characters in this world and I don't think I will ever get tired of reading about them all. Another great book in the Ancients Rising series!
I'll always pick up a Katie Reus book. Her paranormal world is among the best out there, and revisiting old friends in New Orleans and other post-Fall cities and realms is decidedly reassuring. Here we get Stella and Rhodes' story. We met dragon princess Stella previously in her long-lost older sister Juniper's book (Ancient Retribution). Though this book stands alone quite well, knowing a little about this royal dragon family already did make the story richer.
Rhodes is new. Also a dragon, but a loner assassin one, he's sent to Nova, Stella's realm, to kidnap the princess and bring her to a fae realm. He'd been led to believe she was a horrible person, but by the time this story begins, he already knows she's really sweet and kind, and he's been crushing on her from afar. Instead of taking her, he appoints himself her bodyguard and accompanies her to New Orleans. As the two grow closer, he dreads the moment she finds out the truth about his original intentions.
There is definitely fae attack action throughout the book, though I wouldn't have minded more. Instead, much of the time is spent on sexy times and on getting to know other shifters and vampires in the city. I was okay with the slightly mild pace because I was expecting there to be some kind of reveal about Rhodes' background. All we know is he was found by humans alone in the woods; surely greater truths were coming? But they didn't. The climax of the fae issue is also resolved rather easily, and there were never really any moments that made me fear for our h and H.
All that aside, the story was a fluid, lovely read. I'm looking forward to the next book!
I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!
Adventure, kidnapping, betrayal, hidden agendas, and of course dragon shifters and evil Fae! A fun series that each can be standalone, but a fun cast of characters to follow. Let's not forget about fated mates and a bit of heat, makes the adventure even hotter!
Rhodes may have bitten off more than he can chew. His latest contract gets dodgier the deeper he gets! This merciless Princess is anything but and his inner dragon agrees with him. Stella is sick of being cooped up in the realm. Since her long-lost sister has been found she has been itching to go off on an adventure. She manages to get herself a mission and as she makes her way to the portal she gets attacked.
Rhodes does not take kindly to Fae poaching on his contract and saves Stella ut has she jumped from the frying pan into the fire?
Dragon Assassins and Princesses are a complicated match at the best of times but add in a trip to New Orleans, Fae bounty hunters, poisonings and a possible mate who is playing fast and loose with the truth!
Stella is a breath of fresh air. She just wants to be Stella, she wants to be anonymous and free for a while. Rhodes is a bit of a lost soul. He has no idea who his clan is but he knows what he's good at and he had a code of ethics as such and is really not pleased with the Domincary Fae sending rival bounty hunters!
Mistaken identity, poisonings, fated mates, forced proximity and both MC's are V's! The intimate moments between these two are so sweet and innocent but as they grow closer the intensity flashes hot!
There are some great scenes involving recurring characters in the world including Christian the vampire and his ... lion! Oh, and do not get in the way of Queen Soleil! I cannot wait to see what unfolds next!
I loved this story of Stella and Rhodes. He's her savior, but he's there under false pretenses and he might lose her if he tells the truth. Loved the extra cast of characters from previous books, all their quirks and levity. I found their experience to be endearing, loved his possessiveness, and her take no cr@p attitude. Christian is a hoot.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
Loved this book! We meet Stella, a dragon princess looking to live life a little, and Rhodes, an assassin who decides instead of killing the princess, he wants to mate her. Toss in nutty side characters and the contract holders looking for revenge, you get a great read.
I really had fun reading this one. The characters are all very fun and sweet. Some ties are also put in to make the groundwork for future books. I can’t wait to see which ones Reus works on next! Thank you to Net Galley, Reus and the publisher for my copy of this book.
I will start off with Katie Reus is a go to author for me so the second I get a chance to review one of her books I jump. I also love the cover of this book in the Ancient Rising series.
Ancient Vengeance is part of a series supernatural series that will become colorful as readers start with book 1 in the series. That being said readers can jump in with book 6 or book 2 as they can be read as standalone novels.
The story is everything you expect from Katie Reus; Romance, action, sexy time, feisty strong female leads and overprotective male characters. The world the author has created in one where supernatural roam the world of humans. The balance they have created is constantly being tested and once again being tested.
The story is face pace supernatural romance that will leave readers happy they dove headfirst into Katie Reus world.
He Was Meant To Protect Her!
Rhodes an assassin dragon has been tasked to kidnap the youngest dragon princess Stella but after watching her, his dragon had decided they were going to keep her.
Saving her and getting to know her, he soon realised that the person who had contracted him to steal her had told him a lot of lies.
Pretending to be her bodyguard to keep her close after saving her life, Stella soon fell in love with him but he still needed to tell her the truth.
I love the paranormal aspect of other shifters and how they interacted with each other. This was an exciting read full of romance, steamy moments, new friendships, family interference, with lots of action. A great dragon shifter read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed and ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is another wonderful addition to this series and like all its predecessors it is the perfect mix of angst drama and red hot romance and as a bonus we get to reconnect with characters from previous stories
