I thought this book was a really good physiological thriller after reading the author’s previous books was really looking forward to reading it and it didn’t disappoint. From start to finish it got you hooked and was a really well laid out story with lots of very interesting characters who were so different but was very good the way they were all able to be connected together. Would really highly recommend this book.
I love all Karen Rose books. They never disappoint and this certainly didn't. A captivating story which kept me reading until the early hours. A very well presented story line with interesting characters. I wait in anticipation for the next.
Cold Blooded Liar by Karen Rose is the first book in The San Diego Case Files.
In short, San Diego Homicide Detective Kit McKittrick has the reputation for caring about cold cases involving teenagers, her foster sister disappeared sixteen years ago and it has been her hope that one day she will discover what happened to her. Her latest investigation came from a tip from an anonymous caller leading her to the body of a girl whose murder has the hallmarks of a serial killer that has been at large for almost twenty years. This case will test her gut feeling that all is not what it seems.
It’s an interesting, well written story…each thread of the plot draws you forward one surprising revelation after another. I’ve read many of Karen Rose’s books, she’s an author that produces great reads with a smattering of romance twisted through gritty plots and I’m looking forward to the next San Diego case.
Big thanks to Karen Rose, Headline and NetGalley for this eARC which I chose to read in return for my honest review.
Detective Kit McKittrick gets an anonymous call that says where a body may be buried. That of a young girl is found - and it has something that ties it to a serial killer that is known to have killed at least 4 times.
Dr Sam Reeves is a psychologist who wants to do the right thing - but is he being set up or is he guilty?
Really enjoyed this book - twists and turns that you don’t expect, and enough to keep you awake…
Great read!
Thanks @netgalley for letting me read it.
First in the Detective Kit Mckittrick, a really good read, though I did find it to be a little long winded in parts though the storyline was good and kept
You guessing right to the end
Another great Karen Rose book, but a new area and new characters
Lots of twists and turns and well written characters, a great first Karen rose if you haven’t read any of her other books
Cold Blooded Liar by Karen Rose was another excellent thriller and I loved every page of it. It was a gripping book from start to finish and it made a great holiday read especially as it's a great start to a new series by Karen with some old familiar characters from her pervious series, which I also enjoyed getting my teeth into.
I highly recommend this new book by Karen Rose. It will not disappoint. I loved it!
Ms Rose writes excellent thriller that keep me on the edge and turning pages. This was a tense, fast paced, twisty and tightly knitted story that I thoroughly enjoyed.
The great start of a new crime series, a well plotted and dark story that I strongly recommend as the storytelling is excellent, the mystery solid, and the characters are fleshed out.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
Another excellent book by Karen Rose. Introducing new characters but still creating that homely, familial feel you come to love as a reader. I hope there are more McKittrick tales to cone. Exactly the right amount of twists and turns. Gave me goosebumps and tears.
I have loved Karen Rose’s books for so long and only up until a few years ago I had every single one that came out but then I got obsessed with fantasy and it kind of fell on the back burner. I was so excited to be approved for this arc to get back into her crime books!
This didn’t disappoint at all, I love a who-done-it story and I really didn’t guess until it came out who the killer was. Thinking at first that the person they identified was really quick but then realising so much more was actually going on that what I and they thought was so interesting and really well done. I loved getting both the police investigation side and more from a civilians POV too.
I liked a lot of the characters especially Kit & her family and Sam and even though things were questionable I did think he would be innocent it just didn’t seem like something he would do and he did want to help with everything. I did kind of expect the murder of her foster sister in the beginning to come into the main story a bit more but it was a different killer so wouldn’t have made sense.
Overall a very good crime read - one of the better ones I’ve read for a while. It wasn’t her best book for me having enjoyed the rest of hers but really happy that I read this one.
Some how I had forgotten what a brilliant writer Ms Rose is!
If this is book 1 in a new series, I cannot wait for a follow up. We are introduced to Kit, a damaged girl from foster care (fabulous foster parents) but is now a homicide detective with a good reputation for solving cold cases! She looks into the possible connection to a recent body and a cold, unsolved case.
The book never lets up, with brilliantly drawn characters and satisfying ending.
Thanks to Net Galley and Headline for the chance to read and review.
Cold Blooded Liar is a standalone suspense mystery from best-selling author, Karen Rose. This is my first read by this author and I was excited to read it having long heard of this author. I can see now why her books are so highly recommended. Karen Rose writes an excellent intricately woven and suspenseful psychological mystery. The book is the first in a new series and I will definitely be checking out the rest of the series when it’s released. Featuring a great main character, Detective Kit McKittrick, I’m excited to see where this series goes. This one focuses on Detective McKittrick and psychologist, Sam. As a psychologist myself, I could really relate to the ethical and moral dilemma that Sam is faced with and wondering myself how I would handle this if I was in the same situation. Sam’s patient is a known liar who may also be a killer, but how do you know who and what to trust, especially when your career and life may be at stake. I found the mystery engaging and I wanted to keep reading to see how it all wraps up. I’d highly recommend this excellent suspense mystery. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to read an arc of this novel.
My thanks to the Author publisher's and NetGalley for providing me with a Kindle version of this book to read and honestly review.
This is the first book I have read by this Author but it certainly won't be the last, described as Romantic suspense. Well the suspense is right and there is a slight hint of romance but it is all quality Police procedural, an engaging page turner with superb characters throughout, especially our heroine who reminds me of 'Lily Rush' from the excellent 'Cold Case' TV series, there are plenty of surprises along the way.
Completely and utterly recommended.
This is another brilliant book from the queen of romantic suspenses. Although this time there is less romance and more crime. In this book the romance is a slow burner and not as intense as the relationships in her other books.
Introducing San Diego homicide detective Kit McKittrick, she is instantly likeable and the star of the show and with a passion for cold cases so when she receives an anonymous phone call giving her details on an past serial killer that might be linked to a new murder, Kit makes it her mission to close this case once and for all.
Its not long before the anonymous caller is identified as psychologist Sam Reeves. He’s done something that he’s never done before and broken patient confidentiality by phoning the police. Even though his patient is a diagnosed pathological liar, some of the details he reveals are about the serial murders are to accurate to be lies. Aren’t they?
But now, the finger of suspicion are pointing in his direction. Determined to clear his name he begins his own investigation causing a clash with Kit.
The book isn’t a small read but the characters and the plot line keep you glued to the pages and you suddenly realise you’ve read throughout the entire night, just to see how it all comes together at the end!
There is a perfect blend of character building, so you can’t help but become invested in the characters lives, as well as the plot line that gallops along taking you with it for the ride, and finally, a splash of romance that leaves you wanting to push Kit and Sam together because the chemistry between them is palpable!
Roll on the second book in this new series, I cannot wait to see what trouble Kit gets into next!
As a huge fan of Karen Rose’s earlier stuff I was really excited to get a pre approved copy of this!
I am hoping this is book 1 in the series, and that there is loads more to come!
We are introduced to Kit, a damaged child in foster care who has the most amazing foster parents. Fast forward to current day and she is now a homicide detective with a reputation for solving cold cases!
A body has been found, and it looks like it’s part of an unsolved serial!
Love the team, love kits family and loved this book!
Can’t wait for number 2
A gripping story, I just couldn’t put down this book! I loved getting to know the characters and was kept guessing all the way through. I look forward to reading the next book in the series!
What a read I loved how easy it was to read it a page turner from the first page I couldn’t put it down full of twist and turns a great plot fab character I love kit she was such a lovable character a great book you be wanting to read in one go like I did a great book thank you for letting me read
This is a really interesting concept for a story because it follows not only the perspective of the police working on a serial killer case, but also the perspective of a psychologist who has found himself involved in the case. Kit is a determined, hardworking cop who is motivated by the murder of her foster sister to solve as many cold cases as possible to give families closure like she didn’t get. Sam is a psychologist who does lots of charity work and seems like an all round Good Samaritan. One of his patients disclose information connected to a serial killer that leaves him feeling unsettled, and he gets pulled into this case and even finds himself as a suspect.
One thing I absolutely loved about this story was the relationships between Kit’s family. They were so kind and supportive and always there for each other and it honestly just warmed my heart reading about them. I loved that we got an in-depth look into all the characters too, I felt really involved in the story and found myself really caring about the characters and what happened to them.
There were lots of twists and turns in this story and I had no idea who the killer was. The reveal was so good and the killer in this book is actually one of the most evil I’ve read about and I was definitely a bit disturbed. The writing, plot, characters, literally everything was spot on for me, and I can’t actually fault a thing! I also enjoy the light romance in here because it wasn’t over powering at all and didn’t take my attention away from the mystery. I think there will be more books following these characters and I can’t wait to read them!
Thank you so much to Netgalley for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Karen Rose is what I consider to be a quality author. She never disappoints. This book is no exception. Another fabulous read from a fabulous author.
Karen Rose hooks you straightaway with her fantastic writing. Love Kit character strong yet vulnerable, could not guess who the killer was despite trying which I love. You will not want to put this book down, it is an emotional rollercoaster reading this book and I-only hope that Kit and her extended families stories will continue in new stories, I want to see how Rita life develops and also Kits personal and professional life.
Karen Rose is the female James Patterson with regards to her storytelling and how she sucks you in straightaway.
