Utterly brilliant. I thoroughly devoured ‘Cold Blooded Liar’ in two evenings as it was simply impossible to put down.
Exciting, thrilling, chilling and compelling and I hope that these new characters are back soon.
An absolute MUST read.
5 Stars. No doubt whatsoever FIVE STARS
I have been reading Karen Rose for a long time. She is an amazing author and keeps my attention all the way through a book. Her writing is easy to read and I pick up her books whenever I have a spare minute. This new series is going to be amazing, the characters are great and relatable. Cannot wait for the next book.
Firstly, a huge thank you to the publisher for sending me a copy of this highly anticipated novel
I actually didn’t think I was going to be able to read this book in time, however once I picked it up, it was ridiculously hard to put down
Karen Rose she’s knows how to capitulate her reader.
From the very first chapter of meeting Young Kit, I knew i was instantly going to love her. She remains my favourite protagonist
Did I come up with any theories on this one….yes!!! Particularly involving a certain doctor!
One thing I have always loved about this author, is her style of writing. Just how unafraid she is to write with rawness and not hold back from the gore in the book. It just adds to the story and feel of the book. I’m not a huge fan of authors not truly describing the gore (yes I may be sick!). Given that this book is about a serial killer, the gore only added to the realness
The author has started a couple of new series, but this one is a great news series compared to the rest and I am really looking firsts to meeting Kit again. Hope it’s not too long for book 2!
Karen Rose is a master at her craft and this book did not disappoint.
I literally couldn't put the book down. Loved the main character Kit. Rose always builds the characters and their relationships so well, making them loveable and enticing the reader to be invested in them.
Story was brilliant with lots going on, I love that there is lots of police procedure involved and I didn't see the ending coming which is a rarity.
Absolutely brilliant crime/suspense novel as per all Rose's other books. It's an honour to read them.
WHOA, AMAZING. I could not put this book down.
I thought it was a bit slow at the begining. and then I thought.......this cant be it. we have the killer and we are only 20 % in, Just a really good book, I loved the police procedural stuff, and the characters flowed well with the story. I was unable to guess the true culprit so I loved the twist at the end. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let there be a second book.
ps. I loved the dogs especially the snickerdoodle,
I have a little confession to make – yes yet another one. Although I have all of Karen’s books on my ever increasing ‘to be read’ mountain I haven’t actually read one before…..until now that is. When I was invited to take part in the blog tour for ‘Cold Blooded Liar’, I knew that I wouldn’t get a better chance to get to know her work and at the same time find out what I had been missing out on. Well having enjoyed reading ‘Cold Blooded Liar’ as much as I did, I am now rather annoyed at myself that I left it this long to discover how good her books are. I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Cold Blooded Liar’ but more about that in a bit.
It took me a couple of chapters to get into this book but that has more to do with the fact that I was tired when I started to read and finding it hard to concentrate rather than anything else. Once I was ‘into’ the story, I found it rather difficult to put the book to one side for any length of time. Part of the reason why I enjoyed the story so much has to do with the fact that I liked the main character of Detective Kit McKittrick so much. She is a tough cookie, who has been through a lot of trauma in her time but she doesn’t let that hold her back and instead she uses her past experiences to help her be a better police officer. I became so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the story All too quickly I reached the end of ‘Cold Blooded Liar’ and I had to say goodbye to Kit and the other characters. I found ‘Cold Blooded Liar’ to be a tense, gripping and dramatic read, which certainly kept me guessing and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
‘Cold Blood Liar’ is extremely well written. Karen has an easy going writing style that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. Karen certainly knows how to grab the reader’s attention and draw them into what proves to be one hell of a read. For me, the story hits the ground running and maintained a fast pace throughout. In McKittrick, Karen has created a truly likeable character and Karen describes Kit so well that Kit seems just as real as you and I. Reading ‘Cold Blooded Liar’ felt like being on a rather scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with more twists and turns to it than you would find on a ‘Snakes & Ladders’ board. I love the way in which Karen makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action. That’s how I felt anyway.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Cold Blooded Liar’ and I would definitely recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Karen’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
Interesting Police thriller in the hunt for a serial killer.
Kit became a police officer because her sister disappeared when she was young, She is partnered with Baz, the investigating officer at the time. She gets a tip-off about a suspected location for a body, which becomes a search for a serial killer who targets young girls.
Kit's family and colleagues are lovely people, it was good to read about such a great family and strong relationships. The plot is exciting and full of suspense, with lots of surprises at the end.
Highly recommended.
I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. I had not read any others books by Karen Rose before, however I had heard good things about her work, and this book did not disappoint. From reading other reviews it has cross over characters from other series, however this did not hinder my reading of the book as a stand alone.I loved the true crime feeling along with the mystery, it kept me wanting to read more to know the outcome. Really enjoyed the book and I can’t wait for the next instalment of the San Diego Case Files.
I was so excited when I was asked to be part of the blog tour for Karen Rose’s latest book, organised by @headlinebooks! I’m such a Karen Rose fan girl that I was desperate to be involved. I’ve been reading Karen’s book for the last 14 years and have never found one I don’t love!
This is the first book with a new protagonist Kit McKittrick, who is a fantastic character. She’s fierce, spunky and cares deeply for the victims of crime and their families. I loved getting to know her and her background through the novel.
This novel was standard Karen Rose; fantastic writing, gripping twists and well written characters. I always love how she writes relationships between people, whether that’s romantic or familial relationships. I loved Kit’s relationships with her family and her partner Baz.
I always recommend Karen Rose’s books and this is no exception!
A fascinating start to a new series. I loved that the author made this a crime novel at heart and left the romance open as a possibility for further books in the series I love a good slow burn and it leaves more time for plot development and for the characters to grow.
Kit and Sam both have tragic backstories. The murder of Kit's sister remains a cold case so I am anticipating that it won't stay unsolved for much longer. Kit has a loving foster family and their presence injected a warm feeling of safety and comfort even though terrible things were happening around them. Kit makes a wonderful role model as a strong, intelligent and independent woman.
Sam is a gentle soul and I found his character a refreshing change from the alpha males typically found in romantic suspense. Even though he initially seemed like someone who needed to be looked after he grew in my estimation as the story developed. He conducted his own investigation and was able to act appropriately in a dangerous situation when needed. I'm sure Sam will grow in confidence as he becomes more embroiled in solving cases with Kit. Sam and Kit have an attraction and it will be interesting to watch this pair grow closer as they work together in the future.
I have been a Karen Rose fan for a long time, so I was very excited when I heard her latest book was to be the first in a new series, this time sent in San Diego, and even more excited when I was contacted by Headline and asked to be a part of the blog tour for it.
As you would expect from a Karen Rose book, Cold Blooded Liar is packed with a cast of well-rounded, three-dimensional characters, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know various McKittricks, and their friends and colleagues. There is a wonderful warmth to this family, and I really hope we get to meet more of them in future books. In contrast, Colton Driscoll was a character who really made my skin crawl.
Cold Blooded Liar is a well thought out thriller examining just how easy it is for young girls to fall victim to predatory men who promise them the world and serves as a stark reminder that if something sounds too good to be true, then the chances are, it is. Maybe it is because of this sad truth, but something about the crimes in this book really got to me in a way that hasn’t happened since I read Karin Slaughter’s The Silent Wife way back in June 2020.
Cold Blooded Liar is my favourite of Karen’s books for a while, and I am excited to follow Kit and Sam’s interactions as the series progresses.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Headline Books.
Cold Blooded Liar is the first book in a new series; The San Diego Case files, featuring the main POVs of Kit McKittrick (a homicide detective) and Sam Reeves (a psychologist). As always, Karen Rose hooks me from the first few pages, and I couldn't put this book down. Fast-paced and full of twists that leave you questioning yourself as to who the serial killer could be, right until the very end.
Sam has a client visiting him for court ordered sessions after he beat his neighbour up in a violent rage. In the sessions, he talks about his 'pretty young things'. After feeling like a girls life is in danger, Sam tips off the detectives (mostly Kit) to the site of a possible grave in a local park. When the detectives then turn up on his doorstep and arrest him, his whole life gets turned upside down and inside out. When someone who is close to Sam, then gets murdered, he becomes even more of a suspect and he sets out to clear his name and get justice for his friend and the other victims. Kit really wants to believe Sam isn't involved and is innocent but something keeps holding her back. After losing her sister Wren as a young teenager and having strong reservations about seeing the department psychologist on the orders of her boss; Kit begrudgingly gives Sam the benefit of doubt to conduct his own investigation as she conducts her own with her partner and mentor Baz.
But the killer seems to be speeding up with his kills and the clock is ticking for all of them.
This book has some great character development and depth to each character, and I loved that it features some cross-over characters from other books. I honestly cannot wait to read more of all the characters and discover where book two takes us after several clever sunrprises at the end of the book!
I’ve read a few Karen rose book and love them. I do like a thriller and this one kept me on my toes. I kept Turing the pages didn’t take me long to read. There a few twist in the story. I never had a clue or who guessed the out come. The plot scene were brilliant the investigation and police scene were handle well with plenty of information two keep you reading. Cold Blooded Liar by Karen Rose 📖⠀
⠀
🌟 This book had me from the prologue...⠀
🌟 Engaging, fast-paced & oh so binge worthy!⠀
🌟 Compelling characters, a serial killer to track down, a romantic subplot - this book has it all & pulls it off it the very best way.⠀
🌟 Rose keeps you on your toes trying to guess whodunit with all the twists all the way until the killer is revealed.⠀
🌟 I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Especially after that teaser at the end
This was a great introduction to a new series by Karen Rose. I always enjoy the introduction to the characters in the story as you hope these are the ones who will take main stage in the next books.
Dr Sam Reeves is a psychologist dealing with a compulsive liar. Is he always lying though? Dr Sam makes an anonymous call to detective Kit McKitterick . The story unfolds from there.
The story keeps you gripped with lots of twist and turns. I loved the characters and am looking forward to the next novel in this series.

Cold Blooded Liar by Karen Rose is a 5 ⭐️ read.
It’s been a while since I read a book by this author and I honestly forgot how good her books are, you get pulled in right from the start. The story is well written and the character development is top notch. I would highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book through Netgalley.
I received this ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first time I’ve read a book by this author but I’ve heard such AMAZING things from my bookish friends on Twitter about the her previous books I couldn’t wait to get stuck in.
16 years ago Kit vowed to find her sister Wrens killer and she became a Detective to do it, ever since the tragic event along with her foster father they’ve turned over every stone and come up with nothing, they’ve had no new leads on Wrens killer for the past 5 years. This new case is so similar to what happened to Wren can Kit do what she does best dispute the pain?.
I totally devoured this book, it’s one of those that you can’t put down and you ignore everything around you until you’ve finished it.
I was so emotionally invested in the characters that I’ll admit I shed a tear when the book had about 15 minutes left, certain events just made my heart full.
I can’t really write what I want about this story without giving any spoilers other than it’s absolutely brilliant and I enjoyed every second of it and I can’t wait for the next in series. (I’m currently downloading all the other books by the author)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend this to anyone that likes suspense genre reads.
Many thanks to #NetGalley and #Headlinebooks for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
A nail biting murder mystery with a deep and satisfying plot.
Kit McKittrick is put on the trail of a murderer by an anonymous phone call. Her search leads her to the caller, who appears to sincerely want to help, but something is wrong, and she can't put her finger on it.
As the case unwinds, the mystery only seems to deepen.
It will keep you reading until the taut finale, and then some.
Highly recommended.
