Thank you to Headline and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
A new series set in San Diego with a great cast of characters that I want to meet and read again!! I really hope that there will be more in the series as I've read all of her other books!! Colton Driscolla is a compulsive liar who sits down with Sam Reeves his psychologist and tells so many lies but there may be one that is true!! Sam provides an anonymous tip to Detective Kit McKittrick!! Now Kit has hunt the truth behind the supposed lie!!
Sam Reeves is a kindhearted psychologist who treats court-ordered clients. After one of his patients, a pathological liar starts revealing plausible new details from a long-unsolved serial murder case, he’s compelled to report anonymously to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) tip line, though his attempts to respect patient confidentiality land him facedown and cuffed by the aggressive Detective McKittrick.
San Diego homicide detective Kit McKittrick loves the water. She lives on a boat, and when she’s not solving crimes with the SDPD, she’s assisting her foster sister with her charter fishing business or playing with her poodle. But there’s nothing that intrigues Kit more than a cold case, so when an anonymous caller leads her on the path of a wanted killer, she’s determined to end the decade-long manhunt.
Sam is soon released but goes home with both a newfound distaste for the SDPD and a resolve, not unlike Kit’s to uncover the truth. Kit and Sam repeatedly butt heads in their separate investigations but are forced to work together to find one of the deadliest serial killers the city has faced in years
I will admit, some of the twists in the book may not be monumental or even surprising, but that's how these stories go. They are a gradual build to the problem solving. They weave in and out as the story needs them to. They create a cadence for the story being told at just the right pace. Nothing happens too fast or too slow. It just happens as the story unfolds.
I hope to get more of these characters soon. I know there will need to be a journey for them that will leave us all even more pleased with their budding relationship. I, for one. am looking forward to it
Many thanks to NetGalley and General Fiction Adult for an advance copy in return for a fair and honest review

I am so glad to have a new KR book on my read shelf! She is one of my absolute favourite authors and every book is fantastic. This new one is no exception. I read it over a few days and just couldn't put it down. I think this is one of the best ones for a couple of years - which is saying something, because her last few were amazing too!
I generally just gush about how much I love KR and her universe when I review her books, so I will keep it short and sweet :
Kit is a police officer, drawn to the force to avenge the death of her Foster sister Wren. Sam is a psychologist with a pathological liar as a patient and has a moral dilemma as to his reporting duties. Their paths cross and a serial killer is identified. Can they catch him before he destroys any more lives?...
Well we pretty much know that we'll get a good ending, with some romance and danger thrown in. The bad guys always lose, but how many good guys will we lose along the way? Kit and Sam are really interesting characters and I'm intrigued to see where KR goes next with them. Ultimately I guess we'll find out more about Wren and her disappearance/murder.
So overall a fab book, a new sub series, a plethora of new characters and a subtle romance to see develop!
Recommended 1,000%.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #Haedline for the copy of #ColdBloodedLiar by #KarenRose
Loved it loved it loved it 😍
It’s great when one of your favourite authors starts a new series and you just know it’s going to be sooooo good.
Psychologist Sam Reeves is worried about one of his patients and the things he is hearing. He has to get word to the San Diego police somehow.
He’s heard good things about Detective Kit McKittrick so he leaves an anonymous tip for her.
Kit is good, so good that she traces him. Then the fun begins.
Can’t wait for the next book. I am totally hooked.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The first in a new series by an author I'd recommend. The characters are well written and believable, the plot different and enough twists to keep me guessing. I only slightly suspected who the murderer was just before the reveal. I enjoyed reading it and look forward to reading the next one in the series.
This is a really exciting start to a new series from Karen Rose. The book has a nail biting start and the tension just ramps up and up to the heart-stopping conclusion. I have to say I went through suspects in my head, constantly changing who I suspected but the real perpetrator never crossed my mind, I was totally stunned. Well done Karen, I can't wait for the next installment.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
What a story!! There are so many levels of twisted in this book, it is guaranteed to keep you hooked in. I didn't see the plot twist coming so very well played!
I really enjoyed reading this book! Before I began reading I thought this was the second installment of "quarter to midnight" so it took a while to get into the story. I kept waiting for the other characters to come in!
As it turns out this is snother whole new series but as it typical, I find with Karen Rose, you just get sucked straight into the story with the writing like a warm blanket where you know this is going to be one hell of a book. I look forward to this series continuing too.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
This was a book which was both compelling and easy to read- once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down!
When Psychologist, Sam Reeves hears some information from one of his clients about the location of murder victims he is torn. The rules of his profession dictate that he is not allowed to reveal what clients tell him to the police. The patient concerned is also a pathological liar which further complicates matters. In the end he agrees with his supervisor to call in an anonymous tip to Detective Kit McKittrick who is known to his best friend Joel, a public prosecutor.
However things do not go as planned when the police suspect him after a body is found when following up the information he has given.
As the bodies begin to pile up the police are in a race against time to find the killer whether it is Sam or someone else. Kit is conflicted as she seems to implicitly trust Dr Sam Reeves and the situation reminds her of the abduction and murder of her foster sister, Wren, when they were teenagers.
I really enjoyed getting to know Sam and Kit and the author certainly kept the reader guessing- there was always a bit of doubt as to whether Sam was involved in some way. They both had interesting back stories which led them to act in certain ways and even influenced their choice of career. It becomes obvious early on that there is an attraction between the two of them and the reader wonders where this will lead.
The plot moved at a fast pace and kept my interest from the very first page so I would have no hesitation in recommending the book as a five star thriller. I was happy to see that Cold Blooded Liar is going to be the start of a new series and I can’t wait to read the next one.
I have to admit to being a huge fan of everything Karen has written, after many enjoyable books, I thoroughly enjoyed this latest book, with intriguing characters I can already tell this is the start of a great series and will be eager to see what comes next
Absolutely gripping book - Karen Rose has done it again, a gripping thriller of a book, I was hooked from the first page, and could not put this down, a magnificent read!
I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley which I was so pleased about as Karen Rose is one of my favourite authors.
This book was a bit different from the previous books that Karen Rose has written, more crime thriller than romantic suspense but it has all the elements that make up a great Karen Rose book, amazing characters, an interesting and well thought out mystery and great twists so there are no complaints from me about this new direction.
I love that Kit and Sam both have their own baggage and they are so tentative with each other and their feelings, it makes you root for them so much more I think because it doesn’t come easy for either of them and just adds to the feeling of it being completely real. What really makes this book is how well rounded all the characters are, you can feel the goodness in Kit’s family, especially Harlan and Betsy just jumping off the page and I can’t wait to read more about all of these people in the next book.
I am a huge fan of Karen Rose and literally have read all her books so far. I simply love her style of writing and I love her consistency is her books. There is much comfort in knowing what you will get from an author. Karen Rose always writes about solid murder mysteries with an interesting well studied aspect of murder psychology thanks to her in depth research and well connected team she is supported by.
This is a new series starting in San Diego with Kit, a strong woman homicide detective as the focus in this installment.
Her family is as ever a wonderful source of love and support and I look forward to reading about them soon in the next installment no doubt.. Once again adorable dogs are introduced which are part of Karen Rose's style that we love so much. I love the fact that there is a love interest in all her books as it softens the gruesomeness of the murders very well.
I simply can't wait to the next book of the series and miss Kit and her team already....
Thanks to Netgalley and Headline Books for the ARC of this book.
Karen Rose never disappoints and these characters will hopefully feature again in further books as they certainly deserve more.
Kit is an excellent detective who gives her all while trying to solve the cold case murders and new ones that are connected. She tries hard not to believe Sam is connected as she feels an attraction to him and she is proved right.
The ending was somewhat of a disappointment but I am sure further books will put that right.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this eARC.
I love this author and have never, ever, been disappointed with any of her books. Cold Blooded Liar is the first in her new San Diego case files series and in my opinion this book has got off to a great start. I really liked the main character Kit McKittrick, who is a Detective with San Diego Homicide Team. I thought she was portrayed very realistically and believably and I was rooting for her right from the start. Sam Reeves is a psychologist and when one of his clients tells him about a murder and where the body is Sam makes an anonymous call to the Homicide Team which brings him to Kits attention. Kit and her team realise they are looking for a serial killer who has eluded them for 20 years. This is another cracking read, Karen Rose creates these new characters then brings them vividly to life and they jump out of the pages as I’m reading. I’ve always liked the format her books take, her writing style is wonderful, the story always flows well and she writes of sensitive issues with great thought and a lot of care. I was drawn into the story from the first page and the story grabbed my attention and held it all the way through. The plot line is very good, well thought out and sadly all to believable in todays world and the story certainly kept me entertained where I needed to know what would happen next. I felt like I was unwrapping layer after layer of secrets where all is not as it seems. I loved the side characters, especially Baz, Navarro and Robinson and enjoyed following Kit and Sam as they adopt different approaches to find the killer. The last quarter of the book is a tense, riveting and nerve racking read as slowly everything begins to tie up and gosh Karen Rose knows to create suspense and keep her readers invested and hooked in the storyline. The romance element that is normally present in this author’s books was very subtle here and much more in the background - this didn’t affect my reading of the book or take anything away from what I found to be a very entertaining and enjoyable read. I thought the ending was very fitting and sets the next book up nicely. I will definitely want to read the next book, there are still some unanswered questions which I hope will be resolved in the next book(s). I absolutely loved this gem of a read and would highly recommend it. If you’re a fan of this author you will definitely like this!
Intriguing right from the start, like all the best storytellers you are drawn straight in. Great characters with their own back story,a fast paced ,full of twists and turns tale.
Cold Blooded Liar by Karen Rose.
Colton Driscoll is a compulsive liar. But there's one thing his psychologist Sam Reeves fears he is telling the truth about: murder. Concerned his patient has committed an awful crime and that the life of another girl could be under threat, Sam calls in an anonymous tip to the San Diego Police Department.
Detective Kit McKittrick works homicide in the hope that one day she will find out what happened to her foster sister, Wren. When a tip comes in from an anonymous caller it leads her to the body of a girl whose murder has the hallmarks of a serial killer that has been at large for almost twenty years. It also leads her to the source of the information: Dr Sam Reeves.
Will Kit be able to crack the cold case in time to stop another murder being committed? And is Sam Reeves being a concerned citizen trying to help, or is there another more sinister reason he has so much information?
Really enjoyable read. Another excellent read from Karen. I love her books. 5*.
As always, Karen Rose has written an excellent book. Detective Kit McKittrick has a troubled past, a great foster family and a dedication to homicide victims above and beyond. A serial killer has been active for nearly 20 years, and despite leaving little trademarks, hasn’t been caught by SDPD - yet. Kit is now on the trail, and is determined to stand up for the victims.
Excellent writing and plotting, fast paced and great ending. Kit is a really strong female lead, with grit, determination and empathy. I liked Sams character, and her fellow detectives. This book has everything you need for a really good read. Here’s to the next one.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
What more can I say, other than another really excellent read from Karen Rose. This lady can do no wrong.
Then again, I probably do not have to praise her work as anyone who has read her books will be well aware as to how good they are. For anyone who hasn’t, do yourself a favour and start now.
Strong characters, strong, twisting storyline makes the book hard to put down.
Recommended.
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to read this book so ahead of schedule. This was a book I was waiting for all year. Karen Rose is actually my favourite crime romance author and I am her biggest fan. This book did not disappoint one bit! One thing I’m very shocked about is the open ending for both Kit and Sam! I’m assuming with the fact her sisters death still has not been solved there will most definitely be a second book? I really hope so. Karen Rose did not disappoint with the secrets and mystery that roamed this book. The gasp I let out when we find out who the killer was! How can I ever trust anyone! I finished this book in one sitting. Did I sacrifice sleep? Yes. Did I regret it? No!
I really want to see more of Sams’s friends; the best friend and ex girlfriend! I feel like there’s more to uncover there.
This is a highly anticipated read that has sexual tension, murder, and secrets. Highly recommend.
