What follows is an absolute roller coaster of twists, turns and emotion. A very dark and gritty read that I absolutely loved. So many ‘oh my god’ moments, it is truly a page turner.

I really liked Lucy Kendall as a character and the others grew on me as the book progressed. As a first book of the series, I am really interested to see how the characters develop and what other crimes Lucy gets herself involved with. So much so, that I already have the second book in the series.

This novel is the first instalment in the Lucy Kendall series by Stacy Green. I enjoyed the pacing of this book and barrelled my way through it. It has an interestiong array of characters, not least, Lucy herself. There are many twists, turns and reveals and a great, well developed and satisfying ending.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

Lucy Kendall is no ordinary PI. She is a former CPD Social Worker and has seen horrible injustices done to children time and again. Now she is on her own, doing her own thing. In fact, more than being a PI, Lucy has become a vigilante. The victims she choose are pedophiles and she is eliminating them one by one. She chooses her victims carefully, and the justice she serves is more than deserved as far as she is concerned.



Having this first book in the four-book Lucy Kendall series gave me the opportunity to fully immerse myself in Lucy's story and to see a character different from any character in a story that I have read to-date. While she painfully recalled horrific things children experienced, when she discovers that a teen girl named Kailey has gone missing she has a dual purpose in mind. In her role as a PI, she is determined to find Kailey and to return her to her family. In her role as vigilante turned killer, she has picked her next victim



She takes no pleasure when it comes to killing, but feeling that she has no choice, she powers through. Her guilt is assuaged somewhat in the good she does when it comes to locating the missing. As things turn out, before Lucy can choose her next victim, something prevents her from following through. While at a bar where she thought she would do the deed she set out to do, she is approached by a stranger named Chris. He informs Lucy that he knows more about her that she would imagine, and Lucy knowing Chris will affect her future actions.



While it is more than apparent that this book is not for the weak of heart, I would be remiss if this review did not include trigger warnings. They are pedophilia, child abuse, suicide and murder. Stacy Green does a fabulous job at dealing with these sensitive issues in this book as well as the other three books in the series without being too graphic, and manages to handle each case and situation that Lucy faces with dignity and sensitivity. For a crime thriller that will keep you turning pages until the very end, and for a book that will not disappoint, The Girl With the Pink Shoes perfectly hits the mark. This first book leads right into the second book in the series, Little Lost Souls.

I didn’t quite know what to make of Chris until Almost the end when a major secret is revealed.
I have the other three books and I’m eager to see if they catch Mary!!

I am so glad that I discovered this book and Stacy Green. I absolutely loved this book. A little girl goes missing on her walk home after school. Lucy Kendall, a private investigator who hears about the abduction and promises to find her.

I love the Lucy Kendall! She is a very nuanced character with a lot of depth. She is relatable and you really understand where she is coming from.

This story had a lot of suspense and there is a twist ending. I look forward to getting to know Lucy Kendall and reading more books in this series.

Emotionally charged, gritty and gripping. A story that kept me on the edge and never stopped surprising me.
Lucy is a great characters and I want to read more story featuring her.
Highly recommended.

Lucy is such a likable character out for justice. A great female vigilante!
You know what she does is wrong but it’s for good reason - keeping bad guys from doing more bad things. She has a heart of gold, coming from her own messed up childhood with loss, due to a predator. Now she won’t stop until she finds the sweet girl with the pink shoes. All with a great supporting cast of characters to make sure Kailey is found. I love this first book in #ALucyKendallCrimeThriller series & can’t wait to read the next one, #LittleLostSouls.

Oh my frickin god what have I just read?! This book is like being on a rollercoaster. There's twists, turns. Ups and downs, building to the death defying drop at the end. Absolutely brilliant story with strong, likable characters. Can't wait for the next one

This book was such a good read. I assumed it was going to be the usual private investigator story but I was surprised to find it was so much more.

Lucy Kendall is a special kind of PI, she has a history in child services and takes on cases where children are involved. But she goes much further in her investigations than any other PI.

I immediately wanted more of Lucy and have downloaded the other books in the series.

If you blink you might miss a very important part of the storyline. Infact, there were times when I went back to re-read a section to get clarification.

Stacy totally thought outside the box and thensome for The Girl In The Pink Shoes. Yes, she will pull hard on your heartstrings for so many reasons with this missing persons case. All throughout the book you will be praying to god she is found safe! I was literally on the edge of my comfy chair. But this was WAY much more than just a missing person case!!!

The Girl In The Pink Shoes deals with some adult taboo situations not talked about much in books. For the open minded reader like myself they will find it fascinating and interesting.

A great new book with a female detective. I felt like the characters were not that likeable, but I’m hopeful that the next book we’ll be better in that regard.

This is the first book that I've read from this author and I liked it.

From the get go it caught my attention and it didn't let it go until the end.

The characters are likable and grow throughout the novel. The story is fast paced so it keeps moving along and doesn't have any slow parts.

I liked the grittiness of the novel and also the gripping tension around every corner.

Oh I absolutely love this author and will read anything she writes as you can bet she will make it interesting. And I absolutely adored this book. SO thrilling. Suspenseful and addictive. It gripped me. I read it in one heart pounding sitting.

Just the titled of the book, The Girl in the Pink Shoes (Lucy Kendall #1) is enough to let me know this could be a tough thriller. The second clue was the author, Stacy Green who books have tough, independent female investigators. Lucy is all that and more. It is also a suspenseful, gritty roller coaster type of read. At times, I admire Lucy, the PI, and other times I was sure she had gone too far dispensing out justice, even if I agreed that they deserved it.

All the while at the heart of the story is a missing child who needs to be found. This is when the true nail biting starts. Time is running out and no one or nothing is quite what you think. There are plenty of twists for Lucy to figure out. I never was able to do so before her, so I just held on for the ride.

Lucy is a very different type of heroine from Jaymee (a personal favorite character of mine) in Tin God. Both have had troubled lives, suffering at the hands of others. However, Lucy is edgier, flawed, darkly twisted and on the hunt. I think I like her mostly.

First of all, let me talk about our eponymous heroine. I don't like her and her intentions. She makes such a huge deal about what she does, but I felt like it was more about her than the kids. I also felt like she should have had a law enforcement background rather than being an ex-social worker. I felt like she was not equipped enough with abilities to carry out the acts.

However, those criminals deserved what they got, if only they could get a stiffer punishment. This book really opened my eyes to the failings of the law, the law protects criminals more than they do children and it was really heartbreaking to read.
I'm all for innocent before proven guilty, but the law should be stricter if there are children involved.
While I would not advise anyone to practice what Lucy did, it was understandable, and my heart broke for what lucy went through.

For the first in the series, I loved the mystery, but Lucy was annoying with her fixation on Justin. It made her lose focus on other suspects which was reckless of her. But I loved that everything got settled at the end. Get ready for the unexpected twist!

I couldn't out this book down. It was such a compelling read that had me hooked right from the start and kept me guessing. I loved it.

A dark and twisted read. While I do enjoy a female vigilante, I did not find the story very plausible. As this is the first in the series, I will read the next book to see if it gets better, especially since I have enjoyed many of the author's other books.

Lucy Kendall is surveilling a possible target at a local bar. You see, Lucy is a private investigator with a difference as she dispenses her own justice on the paedophiles & rapists in her city. She slips drugs into their drinks & makes their deaths look like natural causes. This time, however, when she returns from the bathroom ready to hone in on her target, he is nowhere to be seen & in his place is a stranger who says he knows what she does & that he does the same thing. Lucy plays it cool & says she doesn't know what Chris is talking about but she's worried she's about to get caught.

When eight-year-old Kailey goes missing on the way home from school, Lucy realises that someone from her past lives in the neighbourhood, a young man named Justin, whom she met whilst working for the CPS several years ago & who was accused of a terrible crime when he was a boy. Is the past repeating itself? Unfortunately the man in charge of the investigation into Kailey's disappearance is the step-brother of Justin & he doesn't want Lucy near the case, but he doesn't have much choice when Kailey's mother hires Lucy pro-bono. As Lucy investigates the case she keeps running into Chris who seems to be tailing her. The more she talks to him, the more she knows he's lying about being a killer, but why as he doesn't seem to be about to turn her into the authorities? Kailey's case brings up some bad memories from Lucy's childhood - can she put them behind her in time to find the young girl alive?

First of all, the subject matter is going to make this a difficult book for some people to read, so please be aware that it deals with child abduction, paedophilia, & child abuse. The narrative is well-written though & even though some parts have graphic violence, I felt it was dealt with in an appropriate manner. The main character is definitely one that the reader roots for, she's kind of kick-ass, although I wish she would stop referring to herself as getting old/losing her looks because she is now over 30. Women have enough to deal with without doing the patriarchy's job for them. Overall I thought it was a gripping read with plenty of twists & turns. There's a little bit of possible future romance/spark between Lucy & Chris but nothing over the top at this stage. I plan on reading at least the next one in the series. 3.5 stars (rounded up).
