I really enjoyed this book!! A book one in the Lucy Kendall series this book contains tough subjects child abuse and child sexual abuse!! The cast of characters were unique and I couldn’t figure out who the killer was towards the very end of the book. The book was fast past and the mystery kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat. However I wished there was more of Lucy’s personal life in this book but still a great story. I really enjoyed Kelly and her character. I am excited to see where this series goes.
One of my favorite TV shows was Dexter and I think I found the female version! Lucy Kendall is a vigilante with a good heart, whose mission is to protect children. This was a great introduction to this series! A few times I felt like I knew where it was going and then there was a surprise twist. Look forward to reading more Lucy Kendall tales!
This is the first book in the new Lucy Kendall crime thriller series. I'm happy I read this one. I was hooked from page one. I will definitely be interested in continuing on with the series. It was surprising and suspenseful. I love these kinds of books.
Lucy Kendall used to be a CPD social worker but now works as a private investigator. She is the kind of PI that knows that justice doesn't always prevail and she has definitely seen so many horrific things happen to children to make her the person she is today. Now she takes things into her own hands to get revenge on the evil men by killing them. It's not easy on her though. She still feels guilt. So when she hears about a young girl named Kailey who went missing right from the school yard, she is insistent on finding this girl, and the person who took her. Throughout the story, you get plenty of characters to keep you guessing who could be the guilty one. As the story progresses, she realizes that she thinks the suspect could be someone she knew, in her past.
This was a page turner!!! Be aware that there are triggers such as child abuse and mentions of suicide. I want to check out this author's other books (Nikki Hunt series) now. It got great reviews! But I say if you like crime thrillers, check this one out!
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy! All opinions are my own.
Thank you to #NetGalley, #Bookouture and Stacy Green for the opportunity to read an advance copy of THE GIRL IN THE PINK SHOES (A Lucy Kendall Crime Series, Book 1), to be published 30 January 2023. As this is book 1 and I already read Book 3, it puts everything into perspective, although these could also be standalones. Lucy Kendall, a former CPS social worker become private investigator involves herself in crimes of pedophilia. She is convinced there is no recovery from the “disease” and that she must take action to solve this public problem on her own. She makes no bones about it and is moderately known to a few people, some with more knowledge than others. Fans of Stacy Green thrillers will definitely want to read this novel as would anyone who enjoys good psychological thrillers. #Bookouture #TheGirlinthePinkShoes. #StacyGreen
What a wonderful thrill ride! There was so much going on in this story that I couldn’t help but get caught up in it and not want to put it down. Lucy Kendall is a tough, likeable, but flawed former CPS case worker that now works as a PI hunting down the same type of person she used to investigate for CPS. All the twists and turns in this story caught me off guard and added to the enjoyment of the story. This was a well-paced and well written mystery and I can’t wait to read the next one. Note: there is a lot of sexual abuse, particularly to children, mentioned in this book.
I admire social workers. I cannot imagine what they have to deal with each and every day especially where kids are concerned. I would not be able to do this job. The horrors they are confronted with and not always being able to help those poor children must eat away at them. And what if something happens to the ones that could not be saved in time? What if they do something drastic to themselves or someone else? The guilt those social works must feel sometimes must be hard to endure and when the law and justice are not there to support, some of them take matters in their own hands.
In comes Lucy Kendall. She used to be a social worker, but is a PI now. She is convinced that she can do more now then before. She does everything she can to help and protect kids and put the pedophiles where they belong...
I understand Lucy. I feel her helplessness and her drive to do more, to not always being held back by rules and often saving precious time. On the other hand she has to think about herself too. If she becomes too careless, it will be game over for her too and nobody will gain anything by that.
I know she does not use the best possible solutions, but they work. ;) I like Lucy and her team. Their heart most certainly is in the right place. I am looking forward to what will be next on their list.
It's a very dark story and it was sometimes very shocking. It's almost unbelievable what people are capable of and even worse. They enjoy doing it over and over again with no remorse or regrets. An eye-opener. 5 stars
Thank you
The Girl in the Pink Shoes (previously titled All Good Deeds) is a gripping, page turner that I devoured in one day! The opening scene along with the mystery of what happened to Kailey, made for a riveting page turner which did not disappoint!
Every parent’s worst nightmare.
Eight-year-old Kailey Richardson left school but never made it home. Somewhere between the time school was dismissed and her home, Kailey was taken. Her mother is beyond worried and devastated.
Private Investigator Lucy Kendall, a former CPS case worker, saw fliers about Kailey and knew that she had to help. She is willing to do whatever it takes to bring the girl home. Lucy is an interesting character in that she wants to catch criminals but has not problem dolling out her own form of justice. Plus, she believes she knows who took Kailey, a convicted sex offender she was once assigned when he was a child.
This is the first book in the Lucy Kendall series, and it blew me away. It deals with a tough subject - child abuse/child sexual abuse. This hits close to home as Lucy's sister was abused and later committed suicide.
This book also has an interesting cast of characters leaving readers to wonder about their guilt as the suspect list grows. This was a captivating mystery which kept me guessing and doing my own detective work. Who took Kailey and why? Stacy Green kept me on my toes with lots of twists and reveals. Just when I thought I had things figured out, she pulled the rug out from under my feet.
I enjoyed the pacing of this book and plowed through it. I enjoy Green's writing and her cast of characters. I was lucky enough to have both the book and audiobook. I enjoyed the narration and look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Gripping, well written and shocking!
4.5 stars
Wow! Let me put my head back on straight so I can write this review! The twists, turns and changes in this book will leave you with whiplash, but it was a satisfying case of whiplash. Pink sparkly shoes, an innocent little girl named Kailey, a PI named Lucy Kendall who is a closet vigilante and a depraved human soul who preys on innocent little girls make this book quite the thriller. I knew I would be addicted to this series when I read, "I am not a serial killer." What a hook for a reader who loves thrilling mysteries to grab ahold of! This was a conversation that Private Investigator Lucy Kendall (the star of this series) is having with herself as tries to determine who will get her brand of justice dispensed to them next. Lucy has some horrific memories from her childhood. Then when she worked in the "system" working with Child Protective Services, she realized that justice does not always prevail. So, she decides to take matters into her own hands. This book is about a very uncomfortable subject - child trafficking. It often made me physically ill to think about the crimes being committed. However, Stacy Green handles the subject delicately as there no explicit scenes. This is just the subject matter for the plot. There are plenty of suspects to choose from and the the twists just keep coming. You will need a barf bag just thinking about these sick individuals, but you will find yourself cheering for Lucy Kendall as she metes out her own brand of justice to "take the garbage out" as she so eloquently states!
You are left hanging at the end of this book, so you will have to move onto the next one. Just FYI - this book was originally published under the name of All Good Deeds. Hang on for a thrilling ride of justice and liberty for all as the punches just keep coming.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is the first book in the 'Lucy Kendall' private detective series. This one is absolutely a dark twisted psychological series. Lucy Kendall is a former Child Protective Services (CPS) social worker who's now a private investigator. She has her own systems of justice. Fascinating story and highly recommend.
This book had me hooked from the very first paragraph. And it didn’t let go until I had finished reading the final page!! Wow, I just loved it! And Lucy Kendall, our protagonist, is such a wonderfully written character! She is multi-dimensional, and as the story unfolds, the reader learns more and more about her motivation to do the things she does. And although her vigilantism makes her a killer— one who kills only the most evil of human beings— she is still tormented by her actions. You can’t help but really love the character of Lucy!
This is such a fantastic psychological thriller that will have you reading well into the night! The story has twists you won’t see coming! I can’t recommend this book enough for fans of mysteries and thrillers. Stacy Green really delivers in The Girl in the Pink Shoes!
I want to extend a huge thank you to the author, Netgalley, and Bookouture for an ARC of this book! I appreciate your trusting me with an honest review!!
If you want a fast paced page turner... This is for you
I devoured this. book in no time..
Thank you for sending me a copy Netgalley
Lucy Kendall is an ex-CPS agent turned private detective. In Lucy's lifetime she has experienced just enough atrocities against children to put her over the edge, so when a child goes missing in her childhood neighborhood, she is on the case whether the police want her there or not. When past wounds are opened and circumstances spiral out of control, old truths are brought to light. This was a good start to a series, had good characters and a fast paced storyline.
I received this ebook from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion and review. It’s been a long time since a book has shocked me the way this one has. The twists and turns were excellent, and the story lines were so intricate. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I was way off. So glad I stumbled upon this series!
This is my first book by Stacy Green and it won’t be my last. I really enjoyed getting to know Lucy Kendall and the other characters.
If your looking for a good mystery/thriller this is a great one to start with.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Stacy Green for meeting me read an ARC.
I was excited to see this on netgalley as I am a huge fan of the Nikki Hunt series by Stacy Green. I didn't realize that it was being republished/rebranded with a new title and it was a book I had already read :-(
I didn't really care for it the first time I read it either. I read after reading Nikki Hunt thinking I would fall in love with the characters/writing in this series as well. Unfortunately, it didn't go that way. While it was a solid read, the Nikki Hunt series is SO much better - more realistic, stronger characters and character arcs, stronger stories.
Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for the eARC.
I read this out of order, so the review is tailored by that. I found the books further in the series worked better but that is not saying that this one didnt work. It was good and a really good read. But dont do what I did, read them in order as it will make much more sense.
I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.
The Girl in the Pink Shoes by Stacy Green is a fast paced crime thriller starring a former Child Protective Services caseworker who doesn’t follow the rules nor the law.
After witnessing the failings of the child services system, Lucy Kendall became a private investigator. Now, she will stop at nothing to prevent more children from being abused. When a young girl goes missing and one of the victims from Lucy’s CPS career becomes a prime suspect, Lucy has to overcome her bias from long-standing relationships to objectively address the case.
The complex characters in this book have well thought out, twisted backstories that justify their intense reactions and seemingly reprehensible behavior. Unreliable and possibly dangerous side characters keep the tension high.
The plot is layered and links into the character’s personal stories. The main character’s situation constantly shifts from bad to worse. Lucy causes a lot of her own headaches. Plot twists and the added pressure of fleeting time during a missing persons case keep the readers attention.
The Girl in the Pink Shoes from the Lucy Kendall series is a read I recommend. Definitely a 5/5 ⭐️ for me.
I had high hopes for this newly republished series and applied to read the first four books, but only got approved for the first one. To be honest, I wasn’t that interested in the story because of that. I’d have preferred to read all or none if the four books were listed on NetGalley at once. As others have said, this is a series that people are likely to either love or hate. It’s definitely dark and not the most believable but I’m sure it will have a loyal audience.
This is my first venture into the Lucy Kendall series, I love the Nikki Hunt series by the author. This is a different sort of mystery, Lucy is an ex CPS worker turned PI and she is on the hunt for a missing child. I don’t love the first person perspective storytelling in this book but overall it’s a solid mystery and I will continue on to book 2 in this series.
Book 1. Started off really strong but slowly lost interest unfortunately and it didn’t end up being for me overall
This book was wild. Definitely a very different take on a “detective” or police procedural. You get introduce to a lot of characters that I assume will continue to be featured in the next books. There is quite a bit of backstory as to how Lucy got to the point she’s at, but it was presented over time and in an interesting way. I think this will likely be a divisive sort of series - you’re either going to enjoy the off-the-wall (unrealistic) plot or not. I enjoyed it and it felt entertained while reading it! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.
