A fabulous story with believable characters, I was hooked from page one and it left me reading more by Shari
Another brilliant book from Shari Low. She is fast becoming my favourite author and I particularly enjoy her ‘day’ books to describe her characters and events that happen in one day. And One day with you was no exception. We meet new and old characters.
I couldn’t put this book down and absolutely loved it. Highly recommend
Clear your diary before you start reading One Day With You as once you start you will not want to put it down. As with all Shari Low’s books you care about the characters right from the start and she had included a few old favourites as well. Some parts will have you laughing out loud and others sobbing but don’t take my word for it, read it yourself, you won’t be disappointed.
On one long day in February, six lives are forever changed. Tress says goodbye to her husband Max, sending him off on a business trip. She doesn’t know that, hours later, she will go into labor three weeks early. Noah’s wife Anya is leaving for a conference after a devastating argument. She told Noah that she is not ready to have a baby, a baby Noah desperately wants. Nancy, a widow, has contacted her former boyfriend on Facebook and is looking forward to seeing him again that night at their fiftieth high school reunion. And Val is trying to decide whether she will attend. It will be difficult because she is the caregiver for her husband Don who has dementia.
Clear your calendar and schedule a free afternoon! Curl up in a comfortable chair and start One Day with You. You won’t be able to put this magical book down until you read the last word. Heartbreaking and laugh-out-loud funny, this novel by the talented Shari Low is a gift to all readers. 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and Shari Low for this ARC.
Well, this was a buddy read that was supposed to last a couple of days longer than it but neither of us could cope with the cliff hangers so we just had to finish it! What a rollercoaster of emotions! My heart was in my mouth, tears were in my eyes and a smile was on my face! I was not expecting the storyline at all! What wonderful, deep characters and I love the concept that there whole book is set over just one day, from multiple pov’s! Brilliant read!
It can take only one day to change your life forever. That’s what happen with Noah and Tress. Noah is her husband best friend. She is going to labor. But she can’t reach her husband. Noah’s has a fight with her wife just before she left for her working trip. But nothing is how it seems and Noah is about to realise he is been living a lie. But through pain they will rise and find happiness and friendship is the answer. Great and intense story
A heart warming story set mostly in one day. The plot follows two couples and their neighbours. Tress is expecting her first child, has 3 weeks to go when her husband needs to go away on business. He has barely left the house when she goes into labour. Unable to reach him, the older neighbours and her husband's best friend become involved with the birth of her baby.It transpires that Max was not where he said he was going to be (no spoilers about how that pans out)
On the whole a good read, though perhaps in places a little naive (regarding progression of labour, injuries etc) . The characterisations are well done, though sometimes their reasoning a little questionable. I loved the older Scottish characters, their friendship and loyalties as well as the created family which develops throughout the plot.
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review . 3,5 stars rounded up to 4 from me
I’m sitting here with my kindle on my lap where I’ve been sitting all day reading this brilliant book. I want to try to articulate my feelings but I’m just so overwhelmed. I haven’t read a book that has taken me on such a profound journey of emotions as this one has. I smiled, I laughed, (every time it was Nancy’s chapter), I held my breath, and I cried. I read it so quickly because I needed to know how the lives of these characters who I grew to adore would end, but wanted to slow down to savor every bit. There are lives destroyed, new beginnings, a new life, and friends who become your family all wrapped up in this unforgettable novel. Why did it take me this long to read Shari Low? I don’t know but I’m ordering everything she’s ever written.
Thank you to Netgalley, Boldwood Books, and of course Shari Low for the privilege of reading this masterpiece.
This book was packed full with all the emotions, anger, happiness, sadness and joy plus acceptance. This wonderful book grabbed me right from the start and right until the end. I loved the next door neighbour and her friend they were so funny. The story wasn’t what I thought it would be and I would highly recommend this one. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
I do love Shari's books! I love the Glasgow patter as well as the laughs and tears that are always guaranteed. In this book, all the events are set over 24 hours and the way people's lives can change in that space of time is just amazing. I would recommend all her books.
Tress is married to Max and they are just about to have their first baby
Noah is married to Anya
Max and Noah have been best friends since school
Max and Anya have been having an affair but are having one last fling before they end it and Max's baby is born
Tress goes into labour early and Max and Anya leave the hotel so Max can be with Anya but there is an accident
I don't want to say anything else as it will spoil it but you definitely need to read it,I didn't want to put it down
I would like to thank the author, the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. It was a great read and made me laugh as well as bringing me to tears, I would definitely recommend this book.

One Liner: A good blend of emotions
Tress Walker and her loving husband Max are expecting their first child. Max goes off for an overnight meeting in London when Tress goes into labor. She takes help from her next-door neighbor Nancy Jenkins, unaware that Max is not where he said he would be.
Nancy is excited to meet her first crush Eddie at the school reunion. At 66, she wonders if life is giving her a second chance. However, Tress’s request for help cannot be ignored. She loves Tress too much to say no.
Noah Clark and his wife Anya seem to be having marriage troubles. Noah isn’t sure if he should share his concerns with his best friend, Max, until he can sort out his emotions. Soon, he uncovers a secret that shatters his heart and emotions.
What happens on that one day will change all their lives forever.
The story comes in the third-person POV of Tress, Noah, and Nancy.
My Thoughts:
I knew what to expect when I requested the book. I wasn’t looking for a fresh theme/ topic. I was only curious to see how the author executed it.
Structuring the story to fit it within a day was a good idea. The day is divided into sections, which made it easy to track parallel events. The detailed epilogue at the end ensures the readers have their answers.
The characters weren’t deep or layered. What you see is what you get. This actually helped the plot from being overcomplicated or intense. I prefer books with contained emotions, so this worked for me. (The emotional quotient will vary for each reader).
There are bits of humor that may or may not be funny but do their job to lighten the situation. Tress, Noah, Nancy, and Val deal with different issues in their own ways, so the jokes kept things light when they go too heavy.
I liked how Tress’s mother isn’t the stereotypical bitter/ emotionally unavailable mom. Tress grew up in a positive environment, and her trust in Max stems from her good heart.
Another aspect I liked was the age gap between Tress and Max. It wasn’t highlighted or used for the plot. It was what it was. (Tress is older than Max by 6-7 years).
The pacing was decent, though the book felt a little laborious (excuse the pun) in the middle. I wanted the story to move on to the next stage.
Max’s POV was well-done. I have no sympathy for him or Anya. However, the execution molded the character very well. It was impactful, more than Tress or Noah’s POV.
Nancy’s POV was interesting too, and I was glad to see everything come together at the end. The found family trope was heartwarming to read.
To summarize, One Day With You is a heartwarming read that handles multiple themes with a deft touch. I look forward to reading more by the author.
Thank you, NetGalley, and Boldwood Books, for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
One day in the lives of two couples and a widow who live outside of Glasgow; a day that will change them forever. I am not going to give more of a synopsis for those of you who do not like spoilers. If you want to know more specifics of the story, you can check it out on Goodreads or Amazon.
Each chapter focuses on the alternating perspectives of the main characters. It is poignant, bittersweet, tragic (but not maudlin), and hopeful. It demonstrates how you can make a family from those who surround and support you.
While “women’s fiction” is not my go-to genre, I liked this book a lot more than I thought I would; I didn’t want to put it down. I particularly enjoyed the humorous bantering among the widow and her friends, women “of a certain age.” Shari Low weaves a great tale. My first five star read of the year.
Another amazing read from Shari Low and my first book of 2023! Every single one of her books is as good as (if not better than) the last and I get super excited when I see that she's releasing another novel.
The characters are brought to life with such attention to detail that they really stand up off the pages. Val & Nancy are fun, strong women and I would love to have two people like that in my corner. Noah & Tress become such inspirational characters, not only for their strength but the dignified ways in which they deal with the situation life has dealt them.
I love how this book is again set almost all in one location (the hospital predominately) and that it only covers such a short time period. The circadian rhythm speeds up the pace of the events and really makes you understand that life is so short, and that everything you know can be turned upside down in a second.
A must-read. I am already eagerly anticipating the next of Shari Low's books!
The story
Tress is heavily pregnant, but her husband Max, the FD of a tech company is going away to a conference in London three weeks before their son’s due date. Max’s best friend, paediatrician Noah, and his wife Anja, had a fight the night before and he’s woken up on the couch. Widow Nancy is Tress and Max’s neighbour whose meant to be meeting up with an old boyfriend at their school reunion that evening. But things start going wrong quickly. When Tress’ waters break and she can’t get hold of Max, Noah calls Anja to let her know she left her laptop at home but also can’t get hold of her, the deception that Max and Anja thought no one would find out about comes to light. Nothing about life will ever be the same for the four friends.
My thoughts
Shari Low’s storytelling pulls on the strings of my heart and ties me down to the chair with them until I am done reading. This beautiful, poignant story is told from multiple points of view. There is a strong storyline, fully developed characters and lovely banter. But the part that stood out for me was the ability of the characters to forgive- especially Tress, whose ability to forgive was off the charts. I loved this beautiful read.
I probably sound like a gramophone record (for those old enough to know what this is!) but I honestly love/adore Shari Low books and each one always seems to be better than the last. This book was sheer enjoyment from beginning to end and parts of it made me cry, parts of it made me mad and the rest made me laugh out loud.
I think part of the reason I love her books so much is the connection to Glasgow, the way in which she nails the traits of the lovely Glaswegians and the references to places I know.
I also love how there are only ever a handful of characters but their stories entwine with one another and of course there are the appearances of characters from other books she has written. I always finish the books feeling like I know most of the characters personally.
The story takes place over the course of 24 hours and during that time lives will change irrevocably. Decisions are made, which to some appear frivolous and exciting but will have a devastating impact on others.
Honestly you do not want to miss this book! Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
The book is written through each character’s perspective, with plots linked which cover one day.
Tress, who is heavily pregnant, goes in labour suddenly and is unable to locate her husband. Noah, is a doctor and has to discover something that breaks his heart, but even then, acts professionally, as well as a best friend.
Then there’s Nancy, and Val, both are there, helping bring some brightness to Tress' day.
Both have their own issues that they are dealing with, which are also highlighted in the story.
I highly recommend this emotional read. It made me laugh and cry.
8 month pregnant Tress never thought the unspeakable would happen when she said goodbye to her husband one morning. Now she has to handle giving birth as he and his secret lover are fighting for their lives after an accident.
This was a hard one for me. I wanted this book to have more of a romance to it, but really it just examines the lives of people connected to an affair. The concept that the book takes place all in one day was interesting and I did like the characters (except one of course). This brought my rating up.
This would be a great read for those who like overly emotional reads and looking at what makes up marriage and friendship.
This is a story that takes place over the course of one day and how all the main characters have interlocking lives. Shari Low writes women's friendship fiction like no other and One Day With You is no exception. As soon as I see a new book by this author I have to read it right away. This book shattered my heart and was such a moving story of two couples who are best friends and when deceit and tragedy strikes two of them have to stay strong for each other and their partners, and the other two have a lot to answer for.
This is one of the most emotional books I have read in a long time. I felt so terribly sad for the kindhearted Tress, who is about to give birth to her long awaited baby. And poor Noah, trying to stay strong for everyone but especially Tress while she is in labour and being an honest friend after the baby is born. I felt so much anger towards Max and Anya and their selfishness that destroyed lives. The Nancy storyline was fresh and funny. I was literally laughing out loud at her antics with Val. It was also nice to read about a late in life romance. I loved how this story has wonderfully fleshed out characters and how they acted like real people and the conclusion was very true to life as well. If you enjoy books that evoke many emotions, have lots of drama, and a bit of romance this is the book for you. All. The. Stars.
