Three and a half stars.
This novel takes place over the space of a single day. It concerns five people: Tress, who is heavily pregnant, and her Finance Director husband Max; Max's best friend ER doctor Noah and his wife Anya who works at Max's firm; and Tress' neighbour Nancy, a sixty-six year old widow who has been a friend and substitute mother to Tress since she moved to Glasgow after a whirlwind courtship. At the end of the 24 hours all their lives will be completely different.
Although the book blurb goes into a bit more detail I don't think I can say more without becoming spoilery. Suffice it to say that Tress goes into labour unexpectedly and Nancy goes to her school reunion to meet her childhood sweetheart who she hasn't seen for fifty years.
This was pleasant enough and a good read as you would expect from Shari Low. I guessed pretty early on what was happening, and to be honest there wasn't any attempt to prolong the suspense. My biggest issue is that I've read something very like this before, not totally but just similar. I'm not sure whether its another Shari Low book or someone else - okay I've looked at other Shari Low books I've read and it seems to be a motif of hers to bring together a group of people united by a situation in ways that only become clear later on, I've read One Last Day of Summer and that is probably what I was thinking of, although The Story of Our Secrets has a similar vibe.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Tress is eight and a half months pregnant And her husband Max is going on a one day trip to London for business. She should be fine she still has three weeks ago and if anything goes wrong she has her kind loveable neighbors Nancy and Viv who will help her out if to worst comes to worse she can call Noah maxes best friend and a doctor. Nancy is excited about her neighbor Tress‘s new baby she has known Max and Noah all their lives but Max‘s wife Tress it’s like the daughter her and her Peter never had. She just hope the little boy doesn’t come today it is her high school reunion and since the death of her beloved Peter she has been lonely and is looking forward to seeing the man she left to be with Peter Eddie she has it been spent a fortune on a yellow feather dress that she thinks is gorgeous until she puts it on. Her best friend Viv is over helping her perm her hair for the big night her and Dave have been best friends forever and her and her Peter are used to hang out with Viv and her husband Don until her Peter was taken away. While Noah sits at home and thinks about the terrible state his marriage is in he tries to remember where his wife Anna said she was going after a little snooping he learns his wife has gone to a hotel… Not in London but an hour and a half away and has booked the one room with the king bed into occupants. Instead of calling her he decides he will drive out there and confront her face-to-face. While all this is going on Tress just realized her water broke and after a slight panic decides to call Nancy. She tried to call Max but it went straight to voicemail but after looking at the clock she sees he’s probably not even in London yet but no worries Nancy and bills will take care of her. This is the beginning of a sad, beautiful, heartbreaking, heartwarming story about family, friendship and loyalty. I love Sherry Lowe’s books The thrillers with the happy ending in OMG what a happy ending. Family is not always those we are born in related to but sometimes it’s the people we choose to have in our life that make up a wealthy family. What can I say about this book it is OMG good a definite five star read it flows nicely you don’t want to put the book down you will need tissues what do read it it is so worth it I love her books and have already started reading her catalog cannot get enough. She is such a great talented writer to take you from heartbreak so heartwarming and just a few sentences is a real talent and Sherry Lowe seems to be the best at this. This is a book I highly recommend if you love thrillers and mysteries with a happy ending you definitely need to read one day with you by Sherrie low. I received this book from Boldwood books in NetGalley but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
Literally could not put this down. One Day With You follows five lives over the course of 24 hours. This one day changes everyone’s life and their path forward.
Great read! Hooked on all of the characters immediately. Highly recommended.
* I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from NetGalley and Boldwood Books in exchange for my honest review
You can't go wrong with a Shari Low's book! I still have to find one I haven't liked.
There's something in her writing style that makes even the hardest themes easy to be read.
If you're looking for a heartbreaking yet funny read, stop looking and start reading One Day With You, you won't be disappointed!
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC.
This was a wonderful read. Although it was sad at times it was full of Glaswegian humour. It had me laughing out loud at times. The characters were wonderful both funny a lot of the time and so very helpful and compassionate with everything that was going on with Tress. I particularly liked how Shari ended the story which seemed to be the right outcome for Noah.
This is the second book I have read by Shari Low and i really enjoyed it!
I can't describe too much of the plot without giving spoilers, but basically follows the day in the life of two men in their 30s (who are childhood best friends) and their wives following a horrific event. The day's events reveal some hidden secrets, forces them to revevaluate their relationships and makes them realise how precious time is.
I really like Shari's writing style, its easy to read, without diminishing the complexities of the story. I couldn't put this one down!
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC for an exchange for an honest review.
I thought it was great. Enjoyed it.
Wow wow wow Shari fans will not be disappointed with her latest book. From start to finish it was the most enjoyable book I’ve read of hers.
Wow, this hits you in the feels, keeps hitting, and then makes you laugh! This was the epitome of a Shari Low book and exactly why you pick her books up. You know you will be taken on the biggest rollercoaster of emotions.
This is one of the books that is split into time sections and follows four characters during those periods. We have Tress, a heavily pregnant lady whose husband has gone on a work trip for the day, and she finds herself in labour all alone.
Nancy, an older lady in her twilight years coming to terms with the loss of her husband and facing the concept of having to carry on with her life. Should she make new memories or just put her pyjamas on and stay home?
Noah is the best friend of Tress’ husband, Max. He is having marital problems, and a quick investigation on the morning his wife has gone on a business trip sets the scene for the worst day of his life.
Finally, we have Max, Tress’ husband and Noah’s best friend. Whilst not being where he is supposed to be, he gets a message from Tress that will change everyone’s lives!
How this book flowed and came together was just magical. You feel like you are there with the characters, experiencing what they are feeling and are totally caught up in their world.
The only ever so slight downer on the book for me was Val. I’m not a big fan of hers. She has been in quite a few of Shari Low’s books, and the last one I read with her in it, she drove me insane with her pushiness that I don’t think I’ve quite forgiven her. In this book, I felt like she overshadowed Nancy a little, and it felt like Nancy was just a replacement for Josie, that we lost a while back. I would have preferred Nancy to have a different friend and Val not to have been a part of this story. Let Nancy be her own person and not a replacement friend for Val.
However, this did not ruin the book for me; it was just a tiny gripe. Overall, the book was superb and the perfect book to start the year with!
This book was so painful yet so beautiful.
The prose was simple but eloquent. Its an art to write painful stories, to write it in such a palpable and realistic way.
This story follows 4 friends and 2 elderly ladies. And it accurately depicts each generation's quirks and thought processess. Val and Nancy gave off the same vibes as The Golden Girls. Their resilience and ability to brush things off, to be optimistic amidst chaos and pain was so uplifting and I loved reading about them. I particularly loved the message, atleast one I drew from their Nancy's chapters, just because you're over 60 doesn't mean you don't have anything to live for, doesn't mean you dont deserve happiness and love. This is just the gist of it but I loved how the author tried breaking stereotypes surrounding old age. Paraphrasing what Val said to Nancy, so we're 66, does that mean we have to wait for death, wait for the day we keel over and not get back up.
THIS IS HOW YOU BREAK STERORTYPES.
Noah Clark is quickly become my new book boyfriend, the grace with which he carried himself throughout this book was commendable and literally awe inspiring.
Max and Anya were complex characters, as were Noah and Tress, I found them all to be very 3 dimensional but Max and Anya were complex because you couldn't hate them. You did at times but you also COULDN'T. You couldn't despise them, you couldn't label them as bad people and wish death upon them. That's how beautifully Shari wrote these complex characters. Real characters who felt like real people.
Even though the story span just the length of one day, the character development was flawless and smooth. Writing a book based off of one day and then pulling it off with the story unravelling at quite the right pace and being able to establish the characters' personalities in such a short span is no small feat.
The ending was devastating but satisfactory. I literally can't find a single fault except for one teeny tiny one. Nancy's chapters were quite different from the other 3 POVs and that was a bit distracting and felt like an abrupt fullstop because although Nancy was wrapped in the other characters' life, she had something else going on entirely and reading her chapters felt a bit incongrous.
I want to keep praising this beautiful tale but I don't want this review to be repetitive. I'd reiterate that this book, the writing, the characters, the pace and the plot itself were impeccable. I highly highly recommend it to everyone.
Tress, Max, Noah, and Mya are the best of friends and share many wonderful memories and experiences together. In the span of 24 hours, everything changes for these 2 couples. One morning, significantly pregnant Tress is bidding goodbye to her husband, Max as he leaves for a business trip and Noah bids goodbye to his wife, Mya as she too leaves for a work meeting. None are the wiser that by the end of the day, their lives will never be the same. Tress unexpectedly goes into labor and is unable to reach her husband, Max. Noah recognizes that Mya has left her work laptop at home and when trying to reach her through her administrative assistant, receives news that Mya is not at work or attending an overnight work event. Further information will not be provided so as to not spoil it for other readers. However, this book was a wonderful read that I couldn’t put down. I couldn’t wait to see the events unfold. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.
One day with you is a wonderfully written book, that will have you running a whole gauntlet of emotions, from despair, hope, bewilderment, and forgiveness!
Set over the course of a day we follow two couples as their lives unfold over a 24 hour period, infidelity, death, new life, forgiveness and second chances.
Fantastic diverse eclectic characters from the loveliest kindest Noah, strong capable Tress, the great neighbours Nancy and Val and the wild card Max!
A fantastically engrossing book that I would highly recommend!
Thank you netgalley fir this early read.
This book absolutely hooked me in. Couldn't put it down. What a roller coaster of emotions and events. Tress and Max ..about to have their first child, Anya and Noah leading busy lives and Val and Nancy good friends to both couples.
Nobody knew what that fateful day would have in store for them and in a matter of moments everyone's life is turned upsidedown and is changed forever. Really well written and told in turn from each characters point of view. Everyone realises that they didn't really know those close to them. Highly recommend and I will certainly be on the lookout for more books by Shari Low.
Emotional but thoroughly enjoyable read
BOOK REVIEW!
One Day With You by Shari Low
Publishing date: January 20th
I want thank NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read an advance copy of One Day With You in exchange for an honest review.
First off, if you liked Regretting You by Colleen Hoover, you will like this book. If you did not like Regretting You, you will like this book. For me, this book was everything I had wanted from Regretting You but did not get. But the concept at the core of both books is so addicting.
It is such an interesting idea to toss around the mind: seemingly good, well-meaning people make a decision that theoretically will not hurt anyone if they keep it a secret, but has the power to blow up the lives of the people they love the most if the truth comes out. It really made me question forgiveness and the power of it for the giver.
And this just needs to be said - Noah has to be one of the greatest men ever written. The soul of that man is pure light and love.
I highly recommend One Day With You. It was such an amazing book to start off 2023.
Book Title: A Day With You

Genre: Women’s Fiction

My Rating: 2.5 Stars
In one day, five lives- Max, Noah, Tress, Anya and Nancy are changed completely – someone’s heart will be broken by nightfall.
Story starts on Thursday, February 9 approximately 8:00am and it is like any other day in the picturesque village of Weirbridge.
Tress Walker is assuring her husband Max that the baby won’t arrive for three weeks as he is nervous about heading off to conference in London. Oops he no sooner leaves when her water breaks, she had no idea that she was about to go into labor so soon. She is sure he is still at the airport; however, Max isn’t answering his phone. Hmm is he where he was supposed to be?
At the same time, Max’s best friend Noah Clark is saying goodbye to his wife, Anya who is heading to the airport. Hmm ….
And living alongside the two couples, their recently widowed friend, Nancy Jenkins, is getting ready to meet Eddie, her first true love at a school reunion.
Story is only one day and the chapters move us along the timeline starting at 8:00am
I know I am in the minority and yes some stories have to be read at just the right time. This wasn’t the right time for me.
It was sad yes there was humor but not enough for me to enjoy this story. I felt for Tress and I wanted to like Noah but his f-bombs got in the way – I understood his anger but he was hard for me to like.
I was pleased that the nasty couple what they deserved but still didn’t make it a fun read for me.
However, I will give Shari Low’s novels another chance!
Want to thank NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for January 20, 2023
Noah and Anya, Mark and Tess, two couples whose lives are intertwined in more ways than half of them know. This is the story of how thoughtless acts of self-indulgence can forever affect those we love. And how friends can be closer than family, maybe even become family.
I loved this emotional and haunting story. Yes, there were tears from me, but this book was worth the sad parts. It was also filled with hope and forgiveness. 4.5 Stars for this moving read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC.
Shari Low is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors.
Similar to One Last Day Of Summer, this is another book with multiple perspectives and interwoven plots covering the timespan of a day (plus an extra bit at the end).
This is an emotional and suspenseful read, from all angles. We have Tress, heavily pregnant, suddenly in labour but her husband is AWOL. We have Noah, an amazing doctor who makes a heartbreaking discovery but still manages to put on a brave face and remain a professional (and the best friend ever). We have Nancy, Neighbour Of The Year - what a woman. She steps up and, with her friend Val, brings lightness to Tress' day. These two are also dealing with their own personal dramas which the author also shines a spotlight on. Their school reunion is definitely a night to remember.
I could say a lot more, but I don't want to spoil it. For me, once I got to 20%, there was no putting this down.
I highly recommend this engrossing and emotional read and I am so happy I got to read it early!
Thank you to Boldwood and thank you to Shari. Keep doing what you're doing because I love this format! 😁
I absolutely loved this latest offering by #sharilow.
What can happen in a day can have such profound and long lasting results.
Follow the story of Tress, Max, Noah, Anya and Nancy as we walk through 24hours of devastating and life changing decisions which affects each one of them.
An absolute gem of a book.
Regulars of Shari Low will not be disappointed.
Amazing..I couldn't put this one down.. I love this authors work and she delivered again.. This story evolves around 2 couples ,Tress and Max, Noah and Anya. Tress is heavily pregnant when her husband Max goes away on a business trip. A much wanted baby for Tress who thought she couldnt have children.. When she goes into labour and she can't get in touch with Max, her neighbours Nancy and Val come to the rescue. Max isn't where he is supposed to be and soon Dr Noah is torn between helping Max's wife and his best friend and his wife. , who somehow end up together!!A rollercoaster of a read set across a 24hr period. Totally recommend. But clear the day to read
This had me hooked from the first page. Heartbreaking but also demonstrated how supportive people can be. When Tress Walker goes into labour she thinks that her husband Max is at a work conference. Unable to get hold of him she turns to her amazing neighbour Nancy and her friend Val whose husband has dementia.. Max’s best friend Noah is at the same time trying to track down the whereabouts of his wife Anya. This is told over a 24 hour period and I couldn’t put it down which meant I read it in one go! A very emotional read but one I would highly recommend. Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.
