Very average book for me. I didn't hate but I didn't love it either. Kept me reading but I did not really relate to the characters. DNF'd at 40%.
This was a story about having it all and losing it all and really a lesson in how to pick yourself up and start over. I wanted to love it, but it fell a little flat for me.
Cute, quick read, but nothing groundbreaking.
I picked up this title because of just that - the title. The blurb sounded interesting and I tried to get into it, but I never felt that the plot picked up in a way to draw me in.
Thank you #Netgalley
This was a cute short read about a woman who unexpectedly has to start over after a tragedy and scandal rocks her world. She is back living at her parents home with her teenage daughter and struggling to move on. She finally gets the courage to venture out and look for a job, though she hasn't worked in years and was unsure where to even look. So instead she went shopping at one of her favorite stores when she was approached by a customer for help. When a higher up notices the interaction and also recognizes her, he offers her an opportunity to work at the company. We watch as she takes her housewife and party planning skills and translates it into the fashion and marketing world.
Olivia reluctantly moves from her Georgetown high society personal battlefield back to New York City, and is on the prowl for work, only to find herself fighting in the trenches of a new, more intense luxury retail sales war. She dodges designer landmines in her new job as a high-end personal shopper—which only catapults her into a fifth gear spin cycle of anxiety, insanity and toxicity. She is now working alongside Bitches of Fifth Avenue in a gut-wrenching and nerve-wracking struggle to maintain her sanity, and her bank account. Olivia needs to find her way, and fast, before she loses her mind—and her job. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher for the copy. What a fantastic book! The author has a great gift for characterisation - nuanced, interesting, believable people! Thanks to a great author we have warmth, wisdom and emotional intelligence, this book was a huge pleasure to read!
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to receive this book and review it.
Champagne at Seven is such fun and an easy read.
This is a good beach read but beware you won't want to put it down.
We were able to get a look into the NY fashion scene and I love how Olivia is so real and has the strength to come back after her loses. I can't wait to read what she endures next.
This is a tricky one for me. I think the book was interesting. I think that it definitely has the potential to be a popular book. And I objectively can see the appeal of the upcoming series.
However, I didn't necessarily enjoy the reading experience, and that's because I didn't vibe with the main character, Olivia.
I love the interactions that she has with her daughter, and I love the premise of the 'rise from the ashes'/'from riches to rags' kind of tale, but I felt like I resented Olivia because of how much she bragged in the first portion of the book. I think this might have been resolved had the main catalyst of the story (her husband dying) happened earlier in the storyline. I feel like this would have reduced the amount of perspective the reader has with Olivia at the beginning of the book.
In addition, I think the cover is ICONIC. It very much gives off 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'. I am also open to seeing what the next book in the series will be like.
Overall, I've given this a 2.75/ 5 but rounded up to 3/5
Champagne at Seven!, I wanted to love. Unfortunately this was a DNF for me early on into the book. The cover illustration is beautiful, the plot line was attention grabbing, but the actual chapters were not keeping me intrigued.
Champagne at Seven is a story of having it all and losing it. How you pick yourself up and start over. A nice quick read set in the fashion world of New York City. This book is the first in a series and I will look forward to see what happens next!
I couldn’t finish this one. The premise sounded interesting but the main character was too shallow for my liking. From other reviews, it seems to get better but it was just a hurdle that I couldn’t overcome.
Champagne at Seven! - Toni Glickman
I want to thank Netgalley and Speaking Volumes for the advanced copy of this book but unfortunately I did not finish the book, as I was struggling to connect to the story and the main character was just not my cup of tea. I can see that other reviewers however have really enjoyed this book, so I am in the minority.

Olivia Wyatt is living her best life: lavish parties, expensive vacation, all the shoes, purses and designer clothes she could possibly dream of! Until it all comes crashing down one day when the police arrive to tell Olivia her husband is dead. It only gets better when she finds out she must sell everything of value to pay off debts and creditors her husband left for her. She is forced to make her own money, and finally gets to see what the other (poor 😜) half lives like, and maybe, just maybe, it isn’t so bad after all …
I did not like main character at all… maybe it was because she spent the first half of the book bragging about all the amazing and expensive things she had and how she was better than everyone else. It’s hard for me to like her after that.
The only thing I didn’t like is I think the death of the husband and the starting over should have happened sooner the book. The author took up too much time talking about Olivia’s amazing life beforehand; I found myself desperately wanting to skip through until the good stuff.
I have a daughter myself so I really enjoyed seeing the relation between Olivia and Gwennie.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy to review. While I enjoyed the overall plot of the story the details and characters were a miss for me. The story follows the main character after a sudden life changing event- that doesn't happen until 1/3 of the way into the book. Before and for much after the plot is filled with name brands and descriptions of rich lifestyle living. The family disappears from the story about 1/2 through to focus on the main character-but I was previously enjoying seeing her relationships change with friends and family. Also, it seems to abruptly end which was disappointing.
I received a gifted advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Literally PR.
3.5 rounded to 4 stars.
Champagne at Seven! is book one in a new series following Olivia Wyatt who seemingly has it all. She has the in clothes and shoes, vacations in the top places, but one evening her life changes in an instant. When Olivia receives a visit from the police with shocking news. Her husband is gone. Her relationship wasn't such a happy one and they had been growing apart, but the shock and drop in society hits Olivia hard. She now has to sell all her fancy belongings and home to pay off creditors who come knocking at her door and Olivia is lost and alone. Now a single parent to her daughter and navigating her way through what is now her new life, Olivia goes from being one of the wealthy women shopping in department stores to working there and dealing with people like her from the other side of the counter. There were some funny points in the story and I enjoyed the spin and dynamics within this story.
I really enjoyed champagne at seven. Olivia’s life appears to be perfect to anyone looking in. She has everything at her disposal. One night it all goes up in flames and she has to find herself.
It was a quick read and entertaining. Thank you #netgalley for the advanced copy
Fun, Feisty..
The first in the ‘Bitches of Fifth Avenue’ series and a dip of the toe into the world of fashion, luxury and faux personas where complete insanity may only be a short step away. Will Olivia battle her way through? Entertaining, fun and feisty with an eclectic and eccentric cast of over the top characters and a frothy storyline laced with plenty of humour.
A quick and easy read which I binged in a couple of hours. A interesting insight into fashion and the upper class. Not the best or worst book I have read around this topic. Something about the characters weren’t 100% right which is why I gave this 3 stars
Olivia Wyatt, a mid-40s, rich Washingtonian who beautifully plays the part of mother, socialite, philanthropist, wife, and Stepford cut-out doll in the chardonnay and whiskey-wrapped superficial world in which she lives. Her exclusive last minute D.C. dinner party didn't quite end how she had anticipated. Tragic news was served up late night instead of her planned dessert of luscious and blissful black forest cake. Olivia and her daughter, Gwynnie, suddenly need to rebuild their lives—and themselves.
Life had certainly knocked Olivia off of her pedastal. I thought the book was well written. loved reading it.
This was a fun, easy read about high society and the fashion world. This wasn't my favorite, I felt the characters could have been a little more multi-dimensional.
Thank you Netgalley and Speaking Volumes for the ARC!
This book had the potential to be something. The concept of it intrigued me and drew me in so I got started reading right away. Unfortunately, it was just a ball of disappointment. The plot still doesn't feel like it has started and the writing style is off-putting and clunky. I want to know what happens next, not what happened before. I understand wanting to keep an air or mystery, but the past already happened and we're supposed to be in the present, yet we spend more time looking back.
