Undisputed queen of Irish domestic noir; Andrea Mara, is back with another nerve shredder. No one Saw a Thing isn’t out until the 11th of May but I already know this is going to be another hit.

Sive is a journalist and mother of three, married to hot-shot lawyer Aaron. Along with their kids, the couple are in London for a reunion with Aaron’s former housemates and friends, even though he remains competitive with them all and generally seems disinterested in their lives.

Sive is playing the dutiful wife so heads off to meet one of his pals for coffee and brings the kids along.
As they’re about to get on the tube, the door closes leaving Sive with her baby boy on one side, and her two young daughters on the other, being quickly taken away on the train.

Panic ensues and increases dramatically when only one of the girls is found at the next stop. A major investigation is launched but Sive begins to fear that this is more than her child just being briefly lost, and sets off to solve the clues herself.

It’s a cliché to say it but this really is a parents worst nightmare. So much so that I had to put this book down several times and take a few deep breaths!

Of course, all the red herrings and twists and turns helped keep my blood pressure up too and I was desperate to find out the big reveal at the end (I hadn’t worked it out either 😅).

If you love a good page turner, or a thriller that keeps you on your toes, I think you’ll love this! Recommend!

With many thanks to @netgalley and @randomhouse and @transworldforbooksellers for the opportunity to read #NoOneSawAThing.

Having read @andreamaraauthor 's previous books, I expected I wouldn't be able to put this down once I start. So although I've had it for a while now, I saved it for some leave from work. Thank goodness!!! I could not put this down....every chapter ended with a banging sentence propelling me into 'just one more' until it was done. I read it in two sittings.

Fast paced, but full of delicious secrets slowly unveiled, great character development, multiple timelines and twists and turns coming full pelt! A recipe for a perfect thriller ; I was completly hooked from the start and I loved it to the end!!!

No One Saw A Thing by Andrea Mara

Sive and Aaron are in London to visit Aaron’s old housemates, all is going well or so it seems until Sive rushes to bundle Faye (six), Bea (two) and baby Toby onto a busy Monday morning Tube. As she does so, Faye and Bea make it on before the door closes leaving her behind with baby Toby. Desperately Sive tries to tell the girls to get off at the next stop, but when she gets to the next station she’s horrified to find only Bea there. Faye is no where to be seen and all that Bea can tell her is that “Chase on the train”. This is every parents worst nightmare.

The book is a combination of the frantic search for Faye and flashbacks of the previous three days spent in London with Aaron’s friends. Sive notices something isn’t right here and as time goes on she learns that ‘everyone is lying’ and that everyone has secrets they’re hiding. As Sive frantically searches for Faye, she uncovers more than she expects.

Andrea Mara has once again created an addictive page turner and this is a book you’ll find hard to put down. A huge thanks to @andreamaraauthor and @penguinbooksireland for the ARC via @netgalley. No One Saw A Thing is out on the 11th of May.

‘No One Saw a Thing’ begins with every parent’s worst nightmare. Sive’s daughters, aged six and two, step into the Tube train, and before she can reach then, encumbered by the buggy containing her four month old son, the doors close. Almost immediately officials come to her aid, members of the public support her and she is advised to travel on to the next station where she will be reunited with her small children. She does so, yet only the two-year-old is waiting for her. Where is Faye and who has seen what has happened? Nobody.
Andrea Mara takes us through the agonising events following Faye’s disappearance as we are introduced to their father, Aaron, the police, journalists and the couple’s friends, all of whom are keen to help. The timeline goes back and forth from the beginning of the long weekend to the present, and occasionally to their student house-sharing days. We soon learn that the family are in London because barrister, Aaron, is keen to meet with his former housemates for an alcohol-fuelled weekend of oneupmanship.
As the situation develops, the reader learns a great deal more about all the adults gathered. Sive apart, they are a toxic group, yet even Sive has a shocking secret. Mara certainly grabs the reader’s attention at the outset of the novel and her depiction of sheer panic is very convincing. Those who love plenty of twists and turns are likely to revel in all the reveals. Nevertheless, this was not a ‘must read’ for me. Some of the gang were a little two-dimensional and there was a quite a lot of backstory in the last quarter of the text which felt conveniently inserted rather than authentically developed.
My thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers for a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.

This exciting story from Irish author Andrea Mara leads the reader through a veritable labyrinth of twists and turns. Everyone has a secret but who bears the responsibility for the death of a young woman 15 years earlier. I honestly had no idea which of the group of former friends had decided it was time the truth came out. I read the book in one sitting only realising on the last page that a whole evening had gone by without me noticing.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

Sive’s two young daughters step onto a train before her on a busy Monday morning in London and to her horror the door closes before she can reach them.
When she arrives on the next platform only one of her daughters is waiting for her. Six year old Faye is nowhere to be found and no one saw a thing!
Every time I read an Andrea Mara book it’s better than her last. She is the queen of suspenseful family dramas and I cannot recommend her enough!
Such a cleverly plotted twisty page turner. Thank you to Netgalley for the chance to read.

This book was gripping and unnerving throughout. A page turner that was unputdownable, another thriller read from Andrea Mara.

Absolutely gripping. This book was so compelling and utterly terrifying at times, the emotions that the characters were feeling were palpable.

Ooooh this is good. Very good.

There’s no preamble at the start of this book. Within the first chapter we’re thrown into the story.

Roughly, every other chapter is a flashback from the previous few days, getting to know Aaron’s friends, to put a few potential suspects into the frame, to see the actions that have built up to the disappearance.

Otherwise, the story is set over just one day. And I think that was a brilliant way of writing it. It showed just how quickly things like this can happen, but it also shows us just how long a day can feel.

You end up finding things out at the same time as the characters. You think you’ve got it figured out, but then something else comes out of the woodwork and you’re back to square one. Key points are hidden and you have to unwrap them at a frustratingly (in a good way) slow pace.

There are a number of subplots to keep track of but they flow so well that it is never difficult. Every story is perfectly written and works well with everything else, and help frame the main plot.

There are a lot of different characters and so potentially lots of different suspects. If you’re like me, you will start suspecting them all, but you’ll never be 100% certain with your choice. It’s full of red herrings and twists and turns and surprises that really will have you on the edge of your seat.

I read it in one sitting. I would suggest you read this on a day where you have nothing else to do because you will not put it down. I generally have a rule which means I only read happy, uplifting books in bed, but I broke that rule with this book as I jut couldn’t stop.

Andrea is not an author I was familiar with, but if this book is anything to go by, I’ll definitely be looking out for her.

I was on edge within the first chapter, and it doesn’t let up until the final page. It’s anxiety inducing, stressful, fast-paced, frightening, claustrophobic…and you’re with Sive and Aaron throughout the whole story, desperate to help them.

This had the potential to be a bit far fetched. Not necessarily the main plot because, sadly, that does happen, but maybe the amount of subplots, but it really doesn’t. I don’t know how she’s managed it, but every single page feels so honest and real and terrifying.

Awesome book that keeps you hooked from the first chapter. Set in my hometown of London and accurately describes the busyness of the tube system and how easily things can happen! Every mothers worst nightmare comes true in this book and I just couldn’t put it down! Five stars from me!

Andrea Mara has become an auto-buy author for me. She never disappoints and has me hooked for every read. This is another belter of a story that pulls you in, makes you question everyone and keeps you guessing.

This is set in 3 timelines: the present day, the days leading up to the day in question and several years back.

It tells of an Irish family, Aaron being a successful lawyer and his wife Sive, on holidays in London for a reunion following an anniversary of their friend’s death. The friends have a strange dynamic where they boast and try to outdo each other constantly while Sive watches on as the outsider.
One morning, Sive takes the tube with her 3 children, when her 2 eldest run ahead on the train before her. The doors close and the train drives off. At the next stop only 1 gets out…and no one saw a thing!

Plenty of different plots and red herrings to keep track of but everything is explained and comes together well in the end.
This plays on every parent’s worst fear and coupled with Mara’s fascinating character development and twists it makes for a gripping read.

Thanks to @netgalley and the publisher for this advanced copy. Due for release May 11th 2023.

Andrea Mara does it again. Queen of suspense, nobody else could make up stay awake until 4am to finish a book.

This book grabs you from the opening pages, the reader is plunged immediately into the story and the background to the characters is expertly weaved within as the story unfolds. What I love about Mara's books is that they fall just on the side on absolutely could happen, it is impossible not to picture yourself in the scenarios she presents . An ordinary life catapulted into a nightmare.

This was such an assured read. Brilliantly paced, impossible to predict and an all round definition of a page turner.

Bravo. This will be hugely popular. I look forward to buying the paperback and adding it to my shelves.

Sive and Aaron Quinn are in London for the weekend. It’s a university pals reunion for Aaron, the only one of the gang living in Ireland.

They decide to make a family trip out of it bringing their three children along Faye 5, Bea 2 and Toby a few months old.

Sive is bringing the three children on the London Underground and the girls somehow manage to get on to the tube before her. As the doors close she realises to her horror that the girls are on there without her. As she gets on the next tube she is convinced a well wisher will take both kids off at the next stop and they will be waiting for her.

Except when she arrives at the next station there is only one little girl waiting and not two. Where could Faye be and it seems No One Saw a Thing.

The book runs in alternative chapters in then and the now. The then chapters somewhat depicts the days leading up to the present day.

From the first page my heart was in my mouth, and continued the whole way along. I was in a constant state on anxiety on Sive’s behalf throughout. A stunningly well written story. The latest in a long line of gripping books from the author.

*4.5 stars*

If only, if only, if only! If only she hadn’t arrived at that precise time - if only she hadn’t received an important email at that exact moment - if only the universe hadn’t conspired to place her at Bond Street tube station at the London Underground on a Monday morning rush hour, when normally she wouldn’t have been anywhere near the city of London at all, but at home in Dublin in the Republic of Ireland!

London is a city of 8 million people, and Sive’s 6 year old daughter Faye has gone missing in the great metropolis! Faye and her younger sister Bea, urged by their mother, rushed to get onto the tube while Sive was otherwise distracted by an email from work, and then the automatic doors closed leaving Sive behind. Her daughters are on the tube without her, and while 2 year old Bea was quickly discovered at the next station, Faye has disappeared!

This is every parent’s nightmare. Sive and her husband, high flying criminal barrister Aaron Sullivan, were in London for a reunion with Aaron’s former flat mates of 20 years ago, but now their whole world has come tumbling down.

Playing on the couple’s worst nightmare, the sheer paralysing terror that held them in an icy grip, author Andrea Mara turns the frantic search for their daughter into a nail biting page turner, that will have you on the edge of your seat. With more red herrings than the local fish market, it leads them up blind alleys, and turns even those they thought they knew, into serious suspects. Highly recommended!

Blurb :

No one saw it happen. You stand on a crowded tube platform in London. Your two little girls jump onthe train ahead of you. As you try to join them, the doors slide shut and the trainmoves away, leaving you behind.Everyone is lying.By the time you get to the next stop, you've convinced yourself that everythingwill be fine. But you soon start to panic, because there aren't two childrenwaiting for you on the platform. There's only one.Someone wants revenge.Has your other daughter got lost? Been taken by a passing stranger? Orperhaps the culprit is closer to home than you think? No one is telling the truth, and the longer the search continues, the harder she will be to find...

My thoughts :
This is my first time reading one of Andreas books and ill be reading hide and seek soon as part of a buddy read. I was immediately drawn to applying for the book based on the fact that it was based around the underground in london which is a place i find extremely daunting myself.
I found it to be an enjoyable and fast paced and i grew a personal bond with the characters.
Sive, her lawyer husband Aaron and their three young children are visiting London from Dublin for a few days so that Aaron can have a catch up with college friends. They all prove to be an extremely competitive bunch but share one common bond...Yasmin who is Aarons ex fiancee who died years earlier. Sive is running to catch a train alone and she gets distracted and the doors close behind the girls and the train pulls away from the platform. The girls are only aged 2 and 6 so Sive goes into an extreme panic. Things starts to get worse and the story only gets going from here. All isnt as straight forward as it seems and some of Aarons friends prove to be more underhanded throughout the process. I would highly recommend this book and andrea has been lovely to chat to.

This is my first Andrea Mara book - I know, I know! But what a solid start!

I've read blurbs of her other books and was a bit weary since this one and a few others have the theme of missing children in them and I find that difficult to deal with. However, I needn't have worried. Mara handled that plot line very well.

Even though we're thrown into the action straight away, the plot and writing take a little bit of time to get going. But once they do, wow! I read this in two sittings, it's extremely readable, fast paced and the switching of the narrators adds to the story even though it's annoying sometimes because key information is kept from you - though it's understandable why it needs to happen for the plot and the pacing. I enjoyed all of the characters, especially Maggie, Sive and Jude. I was a bit disappointed with how things played out with Dave but it fits well with the plot. And I like to imagine that maybe after the book ends, Sive and Jude become more than friends ;)

Oh, and the bits with the Irish poets had me laughing out loud, that was a brilliant touch!

We're definitely getting a copy for the library and I will be recommending Andrea Mara to my patrons!

Thread Of Distrust..
Incredible character crafting and a chilling sense of menace make this twisting suspense wholly immersive from the off. A busy tube platform, two small children and a mother standing aghast as they get on without her and the doors close. The tube starts, moves away. Panic sets in, overwhelming panic. It will be fine at the next stop, won’t it? With twists and turns aplenty, subterfuge and red herrings galore and an overriding thread of distrust comes a first class chiller which explores our darkest fears.

NO ONE SAW A THING -ANDREA MARA: MY REVIEW 🗞

Andrea Mara Author is one of my absolute go to authors. Every book she's written has been nail biting with a fabulous premise and conclusion. This new one coming from her in May is another for your list folks!
Sive, her lawyer husband Aaron and their 3 kids go from their home in Dublin to London for a few days,to meet up with his college friends. They're a very competitive group but all have one thing in common...Yasmin. Aaron's ex Fiancee who was also part of the group, and died tragically years ago. A few days into the trip Sive is running for the train alone with the kids when the doors closed behind the girls before she gets on. They are now alone,in a strange busy city,at 6 and 2 years of age. Sive is equal parts dumbfounded and panic stricken. It's every parents nightmare. Things however are only going to get worse...an awful start to an unending nightmare for Sive and Aaron. When their friends try and help, some other revelations come to the fore too, because you know..a missing child isn't bad enough.
This is an adrenaline rush of a read, you feel like an extra passenger in London along for the ride with the crazed parents. So much happens, but it's never so manic that you can't follow. It all ties up brilliantly. A must read!
