A well written finale to the long Expanse series!
The series had its ups and downs undoubtedly, i think having watched the series beforehand helped me through some dull patches for certain.
Definitely a series i always recommend to sci-fi fans, and it's both sad and awesome to have a conclusion now.

How do you review a 9 book space opera series, or more to the question how do you review the last book in a 9 book series without giving anything away?

Can you jump into this book without reading the others? Yeah, you won't have a clue what is going on but you won't get shot either. This book is a culmination of everything that has come before it, the characters which have grown for better and worse through the series. Without reading the previous books then the ending might not live up to what you were hoping but for me it was a great way to sign off and say bye to some of the brilliant characters such as Jim, Naomi, Amos and Alex. I love this series and the characters so to say bye to them is a little tough. Although saying that, I've not been as invested in the series over the last couple of books and whilst I rated this 4 out of 5 that is probably rounded up for an overview of the series. Most of the threads were resolved but the pacing throughout the book was a bit uneven. Some spectacular sequences intermixed with some slower plot building.

So whilst this isn't the perfect ending for the series it is certainly a fitting one. This is a series that I've been reading since 2015 but felt the wind was taken out of my sails with it over the last few (probably down to having to wait and losing focus on previous instalments - my brain ain't what it used to be!) but it's one that I will definitely be revisiting in the future along with all the short stories which I now own too.

I did struggle at the start having not read any of the previous books in the series.

But I was drawn into the story by the writing and interaction between the characters.

This was a really good space opera.

I will definitely being reading more of this author.

This title which concluded the series portrays the events of the aftermath of the war with Laconia.
Laconia is holding on the fragments of empire it once was and Naomi, Jim and Elvi are trying to get humanity to see the greater peril - the beings that designed the rings.
Without any spoilers I just want to say, that albeit it’s written superbly like the rest of the serious, I found the events a bit patterned: the conclusion is never clear cut (as in every Expense book) and yet there’s an all out war in the end…. Don’t get me wrong, closure was important and wasn’t provided in the last book, however I felt like the author rushed into it.

A must read for Expense series fans - but it’s not the best book of the serious. All in all enjoyable!

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book in return to an honest review

Considering the success of the TV show and the series as a whole – I don’t think any space opera has travelled in quite so many different directions – the authors absolutely stuck the landing. This was phenomenal. A series I will read and reread. Excellent stuff.

A satisfying end to the expanse series, the return of old characters and remembering some that didn't make it. All in all a well written finale.
I received this book from Little Brown Book Group UK and Netgalley for a review.

Well the series had to come to an end sometime - and now it is here it has been well done

The Expanse and the crew of the Roci are finally set to rights - the book follows the crew back
to where it all began ....... re-introducing us to characters from previous books , finalising plot lines
left open - a bitter sweet ending that has been well worth the wait .

I wonder where the Authors are going to take us next ?

Note to readers new to this series , this book cannot really be read as a standalone - the worldbuilding is complex ,the multitudes of characters diverse and the storylines intertwined throughout the series

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

And so The Expanse ends in a broadly satisfying manner - after nine books, as many side projects and a TV show that got halfway there. The final three ebooks have been interesting, after a significant time jump they make a more melancholy discrete trilogy in their own right. And it definitely feels that way in that Leviathan Falls follows on directly from Tiamat's Wrath - its plot is discrete but thoroughly embedded in the aftermath of the previous book. And it does feel very much like a last book, reuniting characters (we even get a brief Miller cameo), and pouring one out for absent friends (two major characters haven't made it this far and often get invoked to think what they would do). The crew of the Rocinante have been reunited, but the tinkering with the proto-molecule and the use of the gates has slowly raised the universal force that destroyed previous civilizations and are coming for humanity - sort of.

Its an odd plot for The Expanse which has usually tempered its sense of wonder and the fantastic with the very human squabbles around it. And that happens here too, there's a fascinating central bit where something rather hippyish happens and some of the antagonists cannot take this violation of their own standards. Holden has been slightly weakened by his time as a prisoner, and seems happier to be a team player, and Amos isn't really human anymore. Age is on all of them (it makes sense that the newest main member of the Roci crew is a teenage girl, everyone else is so old). The book broadly follows the standard Expanse formula of small investigative quests to build to the big finale. And being the last book of nice, I wasn't expecting much in the way of a happy ending - it just had to feel right.

Leviathan Falls ends the sequence it a way that slightly dismantles the hook of the whole series, The Expanse was stated to be a story of those first stabs at Interstellar travel, from the civil wars of the asteroid belt to the promise of the stars through the ring gates. But the ring gates were second-hand technology, you get the sense that perhaps the problem was that we weren't meant to meddle with such things. There is a nice coda here which suggests a thriving future for mankind, but the series has always tempered its sense of hope with the cynicism that individuals can be pretty terrible. So while I might quibble that the final trilogies big bad and his fascist empire sort of gets off scot-free, I do get how difficult conjuring up a satisfying ending is for a series like this - and it pretty much nails it.

Leviathan Falls is the last book of The Expanse series and, if you know me, I have probably annoyed you pretty often about how much I love these books (and the TV show). Loving The Expanse is a big part of my personality - you will often find me listening to the Ty & That Guy podcast while I workout with an MCRN tank. Picking this up was both exciting as it was scary - but it was just perfect. It's so rare to see a book stick the landing in such a big series.

Endings are not easy. And endings that are so satisfying and finish stories so well are so rare. All the puzzle pieces fell into place, and all the characters were who they needed to be when the story needed them. I also love how Ty and Dan managed to have the characters (to some extent) say goodbye to us (I cried like a baby every time). The magic of the Expanse is in its characters and having a moment with everyone was just what the book needed - not to say there's no action and a strong plot, but we've been with the Roci crew for nine books. Nine.

I won't do an in-detail review for Leviathan Falls - I always just share my fangirl thoughts after I read the books, but I do feel like sharing how much I love these characters. I'm a big character-driven reader and the Roci crew has been such a treat: Bobbie Draper, Avasarala, Amos, Peaches, and Jim have rocked my world and I cannot wait to re-read the series next year.

I'm going back to sobbing for a bit, bye.

WHAT AN ASTOUNDING CONCLUSION TO THE EPIC SPACE OPERA FANTASY!

Leviathan Wakes to Leviathan Falls is a great masterpiece. As the story closes, the Rocinante crew is still the best!
