This is a cute and heartbreaking story about Mercury, but I'm glad to know his works, and I still hear Queen's songs everywhere; This book also has lovely illustrations; I feel compelled to collect all editions.
Thank you to Frances Lincoln Children's Books and to NetGalley for an ARC of this book!
I love this series and I adore that they feature BIPOC and LGBTQ+ characters. I like that it covers certain topics and frames real people as heroes for kids to look up to. Also, as a grown adult lol, I feel like these would be great collectibles for Freddie Mercury's or Queen's fans! Gorgeous illustration <3
Freddie Mercury is a fabulous addition to the phenomenal Little People, Big Dreams series. Younger readers learn of Freddie's background, where he was raised, his schooling and how he became one of the worlds biggest musical superstars!
The books is filled with bright, larger than life illustrations by Ruby Taylor and she even has his teeth perfectly depicted.
It's uplifting and the timeline at the rear of the book adds further information on Freddie's life history.
This was such a cute read! I was familiar with the series before, so I knew roughly what to expect. It is such a nice and cute way to start learning about famous people, accompanied by lovely, colourful illustrations.
As a big Queen fan, I was very curious about this book. While I knew the facts mentioned in the book, I still enjoyed reading it. And I was impressed by how big topics (AIDS, death) were approached in gentle ways. The only thing I can think of, is that I would have loved to have some song titles in there to connect with the readers.
Freddie Mercury (Little People, BIG DREAMS) written by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and illustrated by Ruby Taylor is a non-fiction children's book about the singer Freddie Mercury. Told in simple sentences with amazing illustrations, this book is perfect for children between the ages of five and eight. I'd like to thank NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group, and Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the free, advanced copy of Freddie Mercury in exchange for my honest review.
The author does a fantastic job of telling the life of Freddie Mercury in simplistic terms for children. She does tell about how the musician has AIDS, once had a girlfriend, and ended up with a boyfriend without going into the nitty gritty details that children may not necessarily need to know at their age. I like the fact that it gives parents the opportunity to answer any questions their children may have.
As an adult, I already knew the facts provided in the book, but I love the fact that it introduces such a phenomenal musician to children who may have no idea who Freddie Mercury is. Five out of five stars is what I gave Freddie Mercury (Little People, BIG DREAMS) written by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and illustrated by Ruby Taylor. The expected publication date of this book is February 7, 2023.
I love this series! I learned so much about Freddie Mercury that I hadn't known before. It discussed topics in an appropriate way and I think young readers would understand it. the timeline and expended biography in the back of the book were useful too.
I say it all the time, I love these books! The little people, BIG dreams series is just fab!!
I adore Freddie Mercury - who doesn't? And this book tells the best bits about his life story - obviously there is a lot missing, and there are a lot of things casually 'skipped' for children. And I have to say too, the illustration of Freddie was a little jarring at first. They really have focussed in on his teeth and in the cartoony illustration style, it's not particularly flattering.
Overall it's a lovely book, and has an empowering message - but it's not my favourite in this series.
I mean how could the Little People, Big Dreams not include one of the most iconic musicians of all time.
I adore Freddie Mercury, so was absolutely I’ve the moon that they’ve included him.
We’re taken through the story of his immigration, him having four extra teeth than the average human being, the success of QUEEN as well as his AIDS-related death. This book sets a positive example of gay representation for a young audience and teaches young ones that it’s okay to stand out and be a star.
Just be you and be fabulous
A very short (28p) children's biography of Freddie Mercury. Written for a young audience, it did its job of explaining the very basics of who Freddie Mercury was (a Rock Star), but overall I thought it fell short of what it could have been.
My thanks to Frances Lincoln Childrens Books for allowing me to read an advance copy of the book via NetGalley. Publication will be 2//7/23. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and a freely given.
Hands down, this is my favorite book ever in the Little People Big Dreams series! The illustrations are nothing short of groovy! This short story on the life and times of Freddie Mercury is relevant to both children and adults. With fun facts, fabulous illustrations, and a terrific timeline in the back, this will become your favorite LPBD book as well.
Descrition, taken from netgalley
Born on the tiny island on Zanzibar off the coast of modern-day Tanzania, young Farrokh dreamt of having a fabulous life. When his parents sent him to boarding school in India, he discovered his true talent for singing, as well as a love of playing rock ’n’ roll songs on the piano.

Who doesnßt know Songs of Freddie Mercury or Quuen as well? A great Musician with a wonderful voice - who died too young.
I love these books - they are cute and nice to have - maybe for Fans, but also for Kids - or people who want to practice their english skills (as a non native english speaker). The illustration are lovely, the texts aren´t too long - a perfect gift for someone- Or just collect them - Love the cover =)

Beautifully illustrated, I enjoyed this and think kids will enjoy learning about Freddy from this!
I've really been enjoying the entire 'little people, big dreams' series, and this is such a wonderful tribute to Freddie Mercury! As the readers we're taken through the stories of his immigrant story, him having four extra teeth than the average human being, the success of QUEEN as well as his AIDS-related death. This book also sets a positive example of gay representation for a young audience. The illustrations are amazing! And this book is perfect for a young kid, and will be able to inspire them to dream big.

I love this series of children's books. They are so fun and informative. The illustrations are great. The author picks really interesting subjects, and I will defiinitly be reccomending these books to the library patrons.
Fabulously illustrated, this abbreviated version of one of the biggest rock stars of all time is perfect for preteens and teens (and Freddie-loving adults).
I received an electronic version through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
oung Farrok grew up in Zanzibar, was educated in India and moved to England as a young man. His musical talent was discovered during his school years and honed in England where he achieved great success until his untimely death. Yes, little Farrok with a big dream, grew up to be Freddie Mercury who sang in the band that he named Queen.
Freddie’s story was nicely told in this brightly illustrated entry in a favorite series. I definitely recommend it.
I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
This was a short biography of Freddie Mercury. It gives a light overview of his life and some of the events in it.
I thought that this was a good introduction to Freddie Mercury. However, there was only a light coverage of his music, which is what he is most known for. I also found the illustration style distracting from the content.
This is a good book for a younger reader.
Absolutely loved this book from a great series of books!
I love Queens music, and enjoyed the recent film about the life of Freddie Mercury, and I enjoyed this book just as much .
Very simple and broken down for younger readers - makes it more memorable and easier to understand.
Great read
Another great installment in the Little People, BIG DREAMS biography series for children. In this title we learn about the key points in the life of Freddie Mercury. All these books in this series offer a nice message for kids to keep believing in your dreams.

Good, clear biography of rock and roller Freddie Mercury. Nicely written and illustrated, it delivers the bio for the young at heart who enjoy this rock and roll star. A pleasant and appropriate read.
