Absolutely bloody amazing, as if the authors books would be anything less.
This was so creepy, the tension build and builds to an epic ending (I need to see more of Josie!)
The inclusion of the interviews/podcasts really added to the storyline and I loved how the characters interlinked and the different versions that came out throughout.
‘None of this is true’ is one of my favourite Lisa Jewell novels to date because the twists do not stop coming!
The whole premise of the story feels really current as there is an element of the modern fascination we have about true life crime but also the way in which social media and podcasts allow us to silently observe someone else’s experiences. This level of voyeurism and morbid fascination is definitely harnessed by Jewell for this completely original thriller.
Podcaster Alix and homemaker Josie meet on their forty-fifth birthdays- they are strangers but cosmically connected by being born on the same day in the same place. This strange meeting is a new beginning for each of the women as they both face turning points in their lives. Neither woman has it figured out and although they exist in very different worlds they are both struggling with the choices they have made in their personal lives.
Josie confides quickly in Alix and Alix opens up her own life to accommodate Josie, especially as she sees an opportunity to made Josie’s past the focus of her new podcast series. The entire balance between these two women shifts back and forth throughout the novel and I loved the fact that I was never one hundred percent sure who is using who, and to what gains.
I am so excited for others to read this story so I can talk about it!! A definite must read for summer 2023.
Oh gosh, you know the sort of book that makes you feel uneasy and gives you the creeps. This is how None Of This Is True made me feel. I devoured this in a day, mainly because I just couldn't put it down and when I was putting it down for a break it kept invading my thoughts, and I just didn't want these characters in my head for too long. Because a few of these characters were just wrong, and I couldn't figure them out and I needed to know, what the heck was going on.
It was fully dark and disturbing. Jewell brings characters to life and believe me I wouldn't want to come across some of these. Anyone who comes up to me and declares they are my "birthday twin" I'm running for the hills.
I always enjoy a Lisa Jewell book. And yet again I enjoyed her latest offering. Enjoy might be a strange word to use for being creeped out but I'm sure you understand what I'm saying.
None Of This Is True is a top notch psychological thriller that will grip you from the start. And that is true... Trust Me.
Guys, you know I’m a Lisa Jewell fan anyway, but this book was just 😘.
We are invited into the lives of Alix and Josie as they intertwine following a chance meeting at a restaurant, as they both celebrate their 45th birthdays.
The women discover that they are ‘Birthday Twins’ and from there we see a professional relationship and potential friendship blossoming as they spend more time together developing a podcast.
Both women seem troubled and not all is as it seems in both households. Alix is portrayed as the woman who has it all and Josie is the quiet next door type… but we all know, you never know what goes on behind closed doors.
This book has such a current and on point feel to it. It felt fresh and definitely delivered for me. Jewell had me guessing throughout and many times I couldn’t quite figure out what was going to happen. I raced through this as I just HAD to know the outcome!
*Thank you to @netgalley for allowing me to read this eArc in exchange for an honest review.
Wow. I’ve read a lot of Lisa Jewell’s books but I think this is the best one yet. I was really lucky to receive an advanced copy of this via NetGalley. I raced through it in about a day, and was so gripped.
This book follows two women who meet at a pub whilst celebrating their birthdays and realise they have the same birthday and have a little joke about it in the bathroom. Then by chance (or by design) they meet again and Josie, a somewhat weird loner type character suggests that she should be interviewed by the other, Alix, for her podcast. Josie says she wants to change her life for the better and Alix agrees to the interviews.
Josie tells of a history of being groomed by her much older husband as a teenager, relationship and child abuse. However, Josie’s behaviour hints that everything might not be as it seems, but who is telling the truth?
This thriller is gripping and un-put-downable. I would strongly recommend it.
Oh I just adore Lisa Jewell and this most recent read hit the nail on the head yet again.
This story really held my attention and I was gripped from start to finish. I will definitely be recommending this read.
Thank you to the author and publisher for the chance to read this advanced copy!
Loved this book. So much intrigue, confusion, twists, and complex characters. It hooked me from page one and I didn't want it to end. And another bonus, this is the first book I've read by Lisa Jewell. Now I can work my way through the whole back catalogue. It'll definitely be my next recommendation at Book Club!
Wow what a fantastic read again from Lisa Jewell. When Josie meets podcaster Alix on a night out and they discover they share the same birthday Josie persuades her to make a podcast about her life but little does she know what she is letting herself in for..Its a really page Turner with many twists, fantastic characters and a brilliant story that grips you from the beginning. As the story unfolds who is telling the truth and will anyone discover what really happened in Josie's life. Highly recommend this book a 5 🌟read
This book is perfect! It's so dark and gritty, with so many layers and threads that are woven together brilliantly. Jewell is a master at this, and it's so admirable. Highly recommended.
When people talk about psychological thrillers, this is the kind of book they are talking about. The storyline and characters live inside your head even after you have closed the book.
Lisa is legendary at keeping her readers on the edges of their seats. Her plot twists come at you just when you think you are starting to get settled into the story. Suddenly you will find yourself racing towards the end of the book, dying to know how the story goes.
I love that the main premise of 'None of this is True' is that it is a podcast. I feel like that is so relevant to so many people today. It also felt so different from anything else I've read too.
Josie was just the perfect, weirdest character. Then we have Alix, our unassuming podcast guru. I won't say anymore so as not to give away any spoilers. But, be sure to pick up your copy when the book is published this July.
Just know, all of this is true.
Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Random House for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Wow just wow a dark and very twisty thriller I found it hard to put down. Two strong female characters lead you through this complex tale. Alix summer’s podcast focuses on Josie Fair the mother of a dysfunctional family but how much of her story is true? Another hit from LJ that will keep you gripped till the very end.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
Josie, who’s married with two older children, lives a life of routine. Does pretty much the same thing week in, week out. One night, on her 45th birthday, her and her husband go for dinner, where Josie spots another women celebrating her 45th birthday. Josie bumps into Alix in the toilets and has a conversation about being birthday twins. Alix happens to be a successful podcaster, and lives in a beautiful house, with her husband and children.
After that evening, Josie hunts down Alix in the hope that Alix will giver her air time to record a podcast and reveal her real life, and what others don’t see behind closed doors. Alix thinks this sounds different, but good. But could this opportunity be a blessing or a curse?
This book was absolutely fantastic. It was well written, and the format included dialogue from The Netflix drama “Hi! I’m Your Birthday Twin!” based on the acquaintance of Alix and Josie, and their respective lives. This was great, and was a real break from the norm, and added layers of intrigue and mystery. The characters were all excellently written, and they gelled with the story really well. This story had everything you’d want from a psychological, domestic thriller, and more. It was a complete page turner, and I’d highly recommend!!
Wow! Wow! Wow! This is a superbly addictive book! The characters are all meaty and intriguing. The twists are dark and juicy. The writing style is unique and refreshing. I can see this becoming an excellent tv drama! This will be one of my main recommendations for book club! 5 huge glowing stars!
Huge Lisa Jewell fan so I was delighted to get a copy of this to read and review.
I definitely was not disappointed. The concept is different and modern with the story being moved along using podcast and descriptions of a Netflix documentary.
I was hooked straight away, this author knows exactly how to give just enough away to keep you wanting more and what a character Josie is. Just brilliant.
None of this is true by Lisa Jewell is a mesmerising read with so many twists and turns that the reader does have to wonder if really none of this is true.
The Birthday Twins are Alix Summers and Josie Fair who meet on the evening of their 45th birthdays at the local pub.
Josie wants Alix to make a podcast of her life and so it begins but will end with the deaths of three people.
A fascinating and original storyline which just flows and has a unique podcast of different character who all bring together a truly bizarre story.
One of Lisa Jewell’s best books yet. Highly recommend
What a ride! Is there any better feeling that loving a book by an author you haven't read before and then realising there is an extensive back catalogue to work your way through?! Absolutely loved it: so tightly plotted and well-observed; brilliant tension, and masterful characterisation.
Lisa Jewell is a drop-everything-and-this-book-now author for me, and this book is a ride. SO GOOD.
Thanks to Netgalley and the author and publisher for the chance to read this.
Alix Summer and Josie Fair are birthday twins. A fact they discover whilst out for dinner to celebrate their 45th birthday. But that is where the similarity ends. Alix is with a big group of family and friends, while Josie has only her 72 year old husband for company.
Josie research's Alix, finds that she is a podcaster and 'bumps into her'.
Alix is looking for her next subject having finished a series on successful women. When she starts to talk to Josie she thinks she has found the next big thing.
You always know that things are not right with the Fair family. Apart from the age gap between husband and wife there is the daughter who ran away at 16 and the one still at home who never comes out of her room and survives on baby food and pureed meals.
The Summers have their issues too. Nathan, Alix's husband, goes on benders and doesn't come home at night. Alix is considering life without him.
This was a great story. So good that I read it in only two days. Like all of Lisa Jewel's books it grips you and carries you along until the perfect ending. Needless to say, I loved it!
This really played with your mind not knowing what or who to believe. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and when I was not reading it I was thinking about it.
It was very well written and the characters were very believable. I will certainly be recommending this book to friends.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for my ARC for which I have given my unbiased revuew.
I loved Lisa Jewell and have read many of her books and I want to start by saying what another great thriller. I was racing through the pages.
We begin by meeting Alix Summer who is a podcaster out celebrating her birthday. We also meet Josie and Walter who are also out at the same pub for her 45th birthday too and they joke about being birthday twins.
Josie starts listening to pod casts and searching online for information and photos of Alix and her life and convinces herself they must have a deeper connection. Alix also figures out something isn't quite right with Josie but agrees to do a podcast with her and we begin to suspect something strange is going on back at Josie's house.
I loved how I never quite knew who or what to believe. There's so much more I could say but I don't want to leave too many spoilers! I thought it was a great insight for the reader to have from a woman's point of view where they may be the suspect instead of the victim. I also really liked the set out of the book being told at times in a documentary/.podcast style
I will be recommending this book to others 100 percent
