Lisa Jewell just gets better and better at unpicking the darker side of the female psyche. From the instant I read the phrase 'I'm Your Birthday Twin!' I knew i was in for a deliciously uncomfortable yet riveting read. Flawlessly brilliant as per usual. Hugely recommend.
There has been a huge amount of publicity and reviews about this book, unfortunately I seem to have read a completely different version as I really struggled to like this one, the idea was great but I didn’t like the characters and therefore I didn’t really care what happened to them. Sorry.
What an amazing thriller from Lisa. She has always been a favourite author for thrillers and this ons is my favourite. Had me hooked from chapter one and loved the podcast element
4.5
I loved this book. I loved the birthday twins storyline and I loved how you never quite knew what was going on. It held my attention from the very beginning and I loved thatr you didnt know who to trust. This was a refreshing change to most other thriller books out there and I couldn't get through the chapters quick enough. An excellent book
I always highly anticipate the release of a new book from Lisa Jewell, she is a master thriller author, but sadly, this wasn't my favourite of hers. While she is still the undisputed Queen of the slow burn, the whole book felt like it was edging us closer to her usual twisty finale... but then I was left disappointed to find there was no big twist, no shocking secret, no huge 'WTF??!!!?' moment. It was flat and predictable and I almost wondered if they'd forgotten to publish the last fifty shocking, truth revealing pages. Both MCs were unlikeable and not in a 'love to hate them' kind of way. I wasn't rooting for anyone, I found I just didn't care about them at all. This is not a bad book by any stretch of the imagination, but it was not up to her usual standard.
Absolutely loved it. The description of psychological thriller could not be truer for this book.
Two women both celebrating their 45th birthday in a swanky restaurant. Birthday twins but their lives are far from parallel. Beautiful, successful Alix podcaster is looking for a new angle in her podcasts, Josie tells Alix that she is about to change her life and would Alex like to record the process?
Josie let’s Alix into every angle of her life. It is a life of neglect, abuse, grooming and two daughters, one of which is ‘missing’ and the other hides away in her bedroom.
The chapters are short, easy to put down and pick up again. It’s obvious something bad has happened and what’s more because it was recorded for a podcast, it also makes a great Netflix series. You kind of feel that it’s maybe all a lie, but is it?
This is a cleverly written thriller, it pulled me in and before I knew it I was trying to find ways to keep reading to find out what happens!
The author is a brilliant storyteller and very talented at building a world without saying too much - just enough detail to pique your interest and short chapters to help keep driving the story forward. I love listening to a podcast and am guilty of falling into the true crime drama wormhole during the lockdowns, so having one of the main characters as the host of a popular podcast was a neat touch.
I never knew who was really telling the truth - Josie seems a bit off-centre from the outset, but is Alix as put together as she seems? And what about everyone else? Does Josie have a plan from the start or is everything a series of unfortunate events? I'm still not sure.
Dark and twisty, this was a brilliant read which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I love this authors books and her latest book None of This is True by
Lisa Jewell was no different, she never disappoints!. I was gripped from the beginning till the end. I loved it especially as I could not put it down. With so many twists and turns throughout made a great story, and made it one of my favourite book of the year.
I highly recommend this book and all Lisa's books. They have been a 5 star read.
Wow. Just wow. This is Lisa’s best book yet. I blame her for my crap performance at work due to reading into the early hours. Words cannot describe how good this book is. Would love a follow up to see how the main characters move on.
Just brilliant!
Would have read through the night if I could have. I loved the use of a podcast to both set the scene and create context and narrative. The story felt fresh but had so many twists and turns, suspense and even horror.
Local celebrity, Alix and boring housewife, Josie coincidentally celebrate their 45th birthday at their local pub. Josie decides she wants to befriend Alix, and ever the master, manages to manipulate the situation so that Alix creates a podcast with Josie in the starring role. But what appears to be a simple story quickly turns sinister and it becomes challenging to decipher wait is real and what is delusion.
I don't want to reveal more, the less you know the more the impact. But the story, the pace, the characters will have you reeling and unable to put this down until the chilling end.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
Lisa Jewell is high on my list of auto-buy authors, so I couldn’t wait to get my teeth into this one.
Brilliantly written as always, Jewell is a superb storyteller who yet again pulled me in from the intriguing beginning to the very end.
The chapters are nice and short (just how I like them), and the narrators are unreliable; I was never quite sure who was telling the truth. The characters are a pretty unlikeable bunch, but they certainly get under your skin, especially Josie.
None of This is True is a slow-burn, twisty psychological thriller with a tense atmosphere, and a sense of foreboding that is palpable in parts.
Another brilliant read from Lisa Jewell.
This was probably the best thriller I have read this year. I was completely hooked from the start and was constantly left wanting more.
I listened to an episode of You’re Booked where Lisa was interviewed, which is what prompted me to start reading this. And I could not believe that she just writes and sees where the story takes her - the twists just seem too good to not be planned to a T!
This felt like a super dark read, then you hit a point where you aren’t sure what the truth is and although there is a sad ending, I did breathe a sigh of relief after the journey I had been taken on.
I read this in one sitting, I just couldn't stop reading and I didn't want too. Twisty and dark i didn't know what was going to happen and I had to know immediately
Wow I mean I do love Lisa’s books but this one is simply addictive from page one.
Alix and Josie both share the same birth date and fate brings them together. Alix is a successful podcaster and Josie is a downcast mother of 2 who married at the age of 18. Josie asks Alix to help document her metamorphosis.
Does Josie have the whole thing planned from day one or does she change her plans as she becomes obsessed with Alix and her life? Who is the real Josie?
The story evolves with each page you turn right to the end. So much so you don’t want the story to end. Josie Fair will stay in my head for a long time and I will find myself looking over my shoulder the next time I visit the Lake District.
Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Alixis celebrating her 45th birthday in the same restaurant as Josie. They bump into each other a few days later and Josie asks Alix if she will consider using her as the subject of her next podcast. Alix agrees aand after a few recording sessions Alix thinks Josie’s life is strange and complicated but continues to dig even though she finds her unsettling. Alix starts to discover Josie has some dark secrets and before she can get any from Josie she has become entangled in Alix’s life and her home.
Loved this book it was so different and the story line will stick with me. Some thrillers follow a similar pattern and burr into one but this will stick with me. I love how Lisa Jewell does not have a same pattern that she sticks to her stories are always so different and memorable. I loved the modern elements to the story eg covid and podcasts. Highly recommended
Oh I loved this thriller so much! It follows Josie who is at a local restaurant celebrating her 45th birthday when she spots local podcaster Alix at another table celebrating her birthday. Josie makes sure to bump into her and mentions that they're birthday twins and suggests Alix makes a new podcast about this. Josie has a rollercoaster of a story to tell and it leaves you wondering how much of what she says is the truth. Alix starts to feel suspicious of some of what Josie is saying but she's also intrigued and aware of this being for a podcast so sticks with it. The slow downing realisation of the darkness in Josie's story is so unnerving but it definitely keeps you turning the pages. This novel gets so dark and twisty and I loved it. I don't want to risk spoiling anything that happens as the novel goes on but it is so good, and I highly recommend reading it!
Wow Lisa Jewel does it again!!
From the first chapter I was hooked and intrigued by the characters, wondering where the story will go. You find yourself drawn into a psychological thriller that has so many twists within a podcast/ documentary format that leaves you debating who do you believe. Will definitely be recommending this to everyone!
I love Lisa Jewell and was very excited to read this one. I was not disappointed! I think it fits very well into the 'untrue crime' genre and I was completely addicted. I also really liked that at the end, I still didn't really know who was telling the complete truth (or was anyone?!). Highly recommended!
It has been a long time since I read a mystery thriller, but in Lisa Jewell we trust. This was a very entertaining read, and I loved the multi-media element of it. For someone who rarely listens to podcasts, I’m starting to realise I enjoy when they’re incorporated into novels.
In terms of storyline I do think it was quite straightforward and predictable. I had hoped for more twists and bigger reveals, but None of This is True is quite cut and dry. This doesn’t mean this wasn’t a great read though, and it’s definitely given me the mystery thriller bug once more.
