As far as picture books go, this is a very fun one. I love rhyming children's books.
Children loves zoo and animals so that's such a great setting already. And the illustrations are gorgeous and recognizable.
Reina and her friends visit the zoo with Reina’s parents and one by one they explore the animals. What is good in this is each animal is described with small facts. The illustrations are colorful and the rhymes are good but not the best. My kid enjoyed identifying animals and she read most of book herself.
Reina, her little brother Mom and Dad and two of her friends spend the day at the zoo. I like the animal names are in bold so you can further research about them. This book is in rhyme form but has an added bonus of it being interactive to engage in conversation with your children while reading it. Reins starts at the birds, goes to the insects and reptiles and ends up at the mammals. I like that the added information on the species is included and bigger words are explained. The illustrations are vivid and pleasing to look at. I especially like some of the animals facial expressions. Thank you to the author for enforcing to listen to the zoo personnel and parents for children to stay safe. I highly recommend this book for older toddlers and early elementary levels for learning and interactive parent time.
Reina and her family take a trip to the zoo and meet all kinds of animals from birds and reptiles to mammals. Along the way, readers get to learn facts about the kinds of animals pictured. The book features "I Spy" type questions as well as comprehension questions throughout.
While I appreciated the information given in this book in kid-friendly language, I think the art and writing style was a bit simplistic. I also think the comprehension questions would have worked better as a page in the back of the book.
A cute story about zoo animals! The illustrations weren't my favorite because they have that more computer feel. But the overall story was cute.
The story contains a couple of interesting animal facts and certainly names multiple different types of animals but I found the sudden change from rhyming couplets on each page to every other line in the middle of the book to not only cause the flow of reading the book to change but my child to lose interest due to the shift.
This is a fun interactive picture book with simple pictures with brilliant colors that will be pleasing to younger readers. I love the variety of animals throughout the book and the interaction created with the reader.
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
This is a mostly rhyming story about a trip to the zoo. I say mostly because there were a couple lines that had no pair and couple lines with a word choice that didn't quite rhyme. But the flow was fairly smooth, so those few rhyming issues weren't too jarring.
I liked how the story itself named so many different animals, although from my experience visiting zoos, except for the reptiles, bugs, and amphibians, you don't typically find animals penned together or even near each other like this. Typically mammals aren't all in one section, but rather separated based on where they're found in the world, with the birds penned in a similar way. The discrepancy doesn't really affect the story, but it bugged me.
The pictures were colorful, but I was a little bothered by the anime eyes on the animals for some reason. They just seemed out of place to me. I would be okay reading this book a few times, but not too terribly many.
Overall I give it 3.7 out of 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, and the Publisher for the eARC! Simple pictures with bold colors makes this book not overwhelming for young readers. I like the array of animals seen throughout the book and the interactions it creates with the reader (i.e. counting the birds you see on a page). The animals are very cartoonish- real photos or realistic drawings of the animals could make this book more realistic.
This rhyming picture book tells the story of a girl named Reina who goes to the zoo. There are many different animals she encounters while she is there and the text often gives some facts about the animals. I don't think the book needed to rhyme or that it really would help children who are developing phonemic awareness, and as a result some of the words are actually more challenging than it could have been written without the rhyme, that being said, it is likely a book that will be read with an adult so the more challenging words isn't really a problem. There were bold words so I was thinking there might be a glossary at the end but that was not the case, I'm wondering if the words connect to the additional activity book in some way? The font is pretty clean, however it is a bit hard to read at times based on colour and placement as it can be written over top of illustrations. Overall it is a nice picture book that I think many children in the age 4-7 range would enjoy. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book.
I read this book with my five-year-old daughter and we really enjoyed it
The story was easy to follow and my daughter was able to read the book to me which she really enjoyed as it helps her get more involved
The illustrations for the book were nice and simple, they brought the story to life. I liked the layout of the book and that the book does engage the reader too which is a great touch
It is 4 stars from me for this one, highly recommended and a fun read!
A fun rhyming book for kids about the many animals you'd find at the zoo. Follow Reina, her family & her friends as they explore the zoo, learn about invertebrates, mammals & more.
There are questions throughout the book to keep kids engaged. A fun book for kids & parents alike to learn more with fun facts & pictures.
A cute and colorful book for parents to teach their kids about animals and the zoo. Many interactive questions to help with things like counting, observational skills and other thought provoking questions kids would love to answer.
Very informative book about animals that children will love. The types of animals are written in bold to make it easier to see them. The book talks about different types of animals to help to reader learn. The illustrations are beautiful and fit the story very well. Great book!
Good, simple book about a family going to the zoo, seeing animals, and having fun. Nothing extraordinary but good for the young ones. There are some interactive activities in the book also. A pleasant break, appropriate ofr young kids, a good introduction to the zoo and the animals who live there.
What a cute little story about a trip to the zoo! I liked that it rhymed throughout the story as well. I was impressed with how specific the author went with the type of animals they saw. Instead of “birds” it was “American Black vulture”. I thought the story was engaging, asking the reader to count, identify, and answer other questions.
I thought the illustrations were just ok. Probably could have been a bit better, in my opinion.
