Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review. I haven’t read the first book in this series but I don’t think it matters as this novel was enjoyable as a standalone for me. I was hooked immediately by this story and found it to be very interesting and not at all predictable. I was kept guessing right until the end as the plot was very clever and a fantastic bunch of characters. Highly recommended. 4 stars.

With the police prepared to arrest her friend, Myaisha enlists the help of the Greensboro Women of Color Writing Group to solve the crime before a third murder occurs. In interesting read that held more attention.

There's potential and I think that some good editing would make this mystery more compelling and entertaining.
Not my cup of tea

For me this book seemed to lack flow and I struggled to get into the story completely. I also felt that parts of the story were drawn out unnecessarily - such as actions or random conversations between the characters that weren't needed. However the plot/premise of the story is interesting and there are many twists and turns I just wish I could have been fully absorbed.

Michelle Corbier has a great style in the mystery and the characters were well done. I felt a little lag but overall really enjoyed this book!

Rene finds her twin dying in the house of her lover, Donald, whom she stole from Rene. And then the lover is found dead in his office, supposedly by suicide.
Myaisha is a doctor who decides to investigate the homicides, along with some members of the writing group she belongs to, all writing murder mysteries.

There are many suspects, Rene, the secretary, the son, the ex wife.......... and they all have to be ruled out, and the murder mystery club ladies intend to do just that.

My honest review: Sorry if it is brutal.

I found the book to have no sleek flow at all. There was too much superfluous conversation and information. The characters, in my opinion, were characters in a book. Some authors manage to draw the reader in, and make the characters real. Not this author, I am afraid.
Instead just saying 'face', this author uses the word 'countenance'....... which is fine, but I feel it is unnecessary.
Also, time - why bother to say it took 5 minutes to lock the house before going for a walk? Or Three minutes to get a woman into the interrogation room? What is the point of this?
In Chapter 23, AJ is described as having Six-foot-ten-inch legs which he has under the table. Yet he is described later on as being six foot eleven inches tall........ I doubt anyone has legs that long.

I did not enjoy this book at all, I couldn't get to the end quick enough.
