I devoured this book in one sitting - what a wild ride!
It very much gave vibes of ‘What A Girl Wants’ meets ‘One of Us is Lying’ meets ‘American Royals’ and I loved every second of it.
The perfect book for those who love a bit of mystery thrown in with royal scandal.
I’m waiting eagerly for the next book in the series to drop.
Thanks NetGalley and Usborne for the ARC.
Thought this was spectacular. Sort of The Princess Diaries meets The Inheritance Games meets Red, White and Royal Blue.
Evan(geline), grows up knowing she’s the daughter of the king of England, but she’s never met her father. But after expulsion from (yet another) school, that’s all going to change.
Whisked to London, she’s faced with a hostile reception, at least from her half-sister and the Queen. The press is out for blood, and then when the son of a Tabloid boss dies, Evan is firmly in the frame. Can she prove she’s innocent when people are desperate to believe she’s guilty?
Fun, pacy, queer-friendly, great cast of characters, a couple of surprising twists, I absolutely romped through it and I’m only furious that I’ve got to wait till 2024 for the sequel. A really fab read.
Absolutely loved a Royal Blood! Will be sharing more thoughts soon, but as a huge fan of Aimee Carters previous Royal books I knew this one would be a delight and I was not disappointed one bit! Fun, entertaining, fast paced it has all the Royal ingredients to make a book smash!
Aimee Carter's 'Royal Blood' is a captivating read that brings to life the fantasy of being a princess, but with a realistic twist. The book exposes the challenges that come with royal life, from the strict rules to the complex intrigues and backstabbing. It's clear that being a princess is far from a picnic, and Carter does an excellent job of portraying this reality. While reading the book, I experienced a range of emotions - from joy and excitement to sadness and terror - and found it impossible to put down. Despite the challenges faced by Evan, I had so much fun reading this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who has ever dreamed of being a princess.
Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read. I raced through this in three sittings! Recommended for fans of Red, White and Royal Blue this is entertaining but also touches on more serious issues of date rape and mental health.
Phew, what a wild ride! I did not expect to be in tears at the end… I also didn’t realise it’s part of a trilogy so excited to read the next two parts!
Perfect for fans of American Royals by Katherine McGee and would also suggest this for fans of AGGGTM and Karen McManus.
Nice short easy chapters to read and also appreciated the little snippets of extra information at the beginning of each chapter - expanding the story through texts, transcripts of phone calls and interviews,, and scandalous gossip magazine excerpts.
Bit of romance, bit of enemies to friends, intrigue and twists - all makes this a happy YA reader!
Absolutely loved this. Pacing was spot on, drama and tension great, Loved the story of the unknown daughter getting dropped on the royal family to both the horror of her, and some of them. Also loved the little nod to Wallis Simpson. The betrayals, media issues, and backstabbing gave a real page turning story and has left me desperate for the next one!
Reading Aimee Carter's fantastic 'Royal Blood' immediately before moving onto Prince Harry's 'Spare' was some coincidental timing given both book's denouncement of the intrusion of the media. Out of the two, it is fair to say that Carter's book shone with a full realised cast of characters and gripping mystery as its core.
Evan Bright is the secret illegitimate daughter of the King of England. This lineage stems from Edward choosing the crown over Wallis Simpson, the different path leading to our current alternative reality. As soon as the press find out about Evan, they rabidly pursue her and twist everything, made even more bloodthirsty when Evan is implicated in a boy's death at a party. So many layers of intrigue!
I am thrilled this book is at least the start of a trilogy because I fell in love with these characters. Feisty Evan, strong and dependable Kit, sassy Maisie - I am excited to follow them as Evan traverses her new life as a princess. The mystery at the centre of this book, regarding the death of sleazy, son of a Rupert Murdoch type Jasper Cunningham, is balanced well with exploring Evan's past being bounced between boarding schools and the feeling of neglect from her absent father.
An explosive, smart and joyous start to the series. I would like to take this opportunity to put in my order for the next book and a Netflix series please! 5 stars *****
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher who provided an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
An irresistibly flawed LGBT side character with a great redemption arc, an entertaining and respectful Taylor Swift reference, and plenty of page-turning plots: what's not to adore?!
Royal Blood follows the story of Evan Bright, an American rebel who just so happens to be the illegitimate child of the King of England. She’s brought over to the UK against her - and her father’s - wishes and, of course, chaos ensues. Her existence is leaked to the press; her step-mother and half sister can’t stand the sight of her, and her mother’s schizophrenia seems to be worsening. Then, to top everything off, her new crush gets killed and Evan becomes the number one suspect in his murder investigation.
It’s a brilliant premise, executed perfectly across nearly 400 glorious pages. The characters are all well-written and riveting (especially Alexander, Maisie and Evan herself) and the settings of Windsor Castle and Buckingham Castle are a lot of fun to read about. With dashes of The Princess Diaries and Pretty Little Liars, I firmly believe that most fans of exciting YA fiction will love this novel.
Surely with how fabulous this story was, the two sequels that will complete the Royal trilogy will be just as gripping. I, for one, can’t wait to find out! So thank you Aimee Carter for writing this book, and for ending it like you did. When I tell you I gasped out loud, my dog jumped up at me to check I was okay!
We're only three weeks into the year, but I'll be very surprised if Royal Blood isn't one of my favourite three books of 2023! I utterly devoured it and can’t wait to read it again soon.
I know we've only just entered 2023 but I need 2024 to hurry up! I need to know what happens next!!
This is a book i've been wanting to read since I saw it pop up on a list of books to be released in 2023. I knew it would be right up my street as a fan of mystery and thriller.
It's hard to pick a favourite part of this book as I honestly loved it all. However, the big reveal at the end has to be my favourite as it was certainly a surprise.
This is going to be one of my go-to easy read series – Aimee Cart has hit it out the park with this new novel.
Evangeline is seventeen, rebellious, and desperate to escape the custody of her birth father to reunite with her mother. The problem? Evangeline is the illegitimate child of the King of England, a result of an affair he had in the early days of his marriage to the now beloved Queen. Evangeline’s known it her whole life, the King knows it – and as we find out, his family knows too. This was a refreshing change from the usual trope of “finding out my dad’s the King of [somewhere] and now I’m a Princess rapidly thrown into royal life”.
After six years of being expelled from boarding school after boarding school, Evangeline – or Evan – is finally going to meet her father for the first time along with his wife, Queen Helene, and his legitimate daughter, Princess Mary – conveniently born on the same date as Evan.
While this has all the makings of a typical alternate royal family book, Carter explores a lot of sensitive topics in a skilful and tasteful way. The pacing is fast, and we’re thrown straight into a storyline exploring the angst of being a teenager who trusts almost no one, sexual assault, trauma, mental health – with a fun little murder mystery just for added pizzazz. I really appreciated the way that these topics were handled, and it added another layer of depth to the plot.
This was incredibly well written, and the characters all a mixture of relatable, lovable, and realistic. I would wholeheartedly recommend this for lovers of YA stories, and honestly – for anyone who wants a quick, addicting read that you absolutely won’t put down.
This is going to be my first 5 star read of the year – I’m an absolute sucker for a well written alternate royal story, and this was just a genuinely lovely book to read. This was the perfect book to read after a heavy few weeks of fantasy and magical realism stories. I can’t wait to read what happens next.
I initially read this through an ARC requested through NetGalley, but my reviews are unbiased and completely my own. I will definitely be purchasing a physical copy of this as soon as possible.
A sweet, engaging YA novel about a 17 year old English-American girl, Evan, who just happens to be the illegitimate daughter of the King of England. There’s romance, conflict, talk about mental health and even a murder, but everything works out okay in the end!
Thoroughly enjoyable, thanks to NetGalley and the publisher!
Thank you very much for the opportunity to read/review/promote this book. I love Aimee Carter so I know this will be fantastic! This time we have a murder/mystery on our hands so it should make for a royal wild ride. Will be sharing much more soon.
Totally addictive and packed full of glamour, scandal and romance, Royal Blood is The Princess Diaries with murder, for fans of One Of Us Is Lying, Red, White And Royal Blue and The King Is Dead.
Kicked out of her American boarding school, Evan is sent to live with her estranged father, the King of England. Her existence as his illegitimate daughter is top secret - until someone leaks it to the press. Suddenly she's the focus of a thousand lurid headlines, plus the hatred of her stepmother the Queen and half-sister Princess Maisie.
Then the royal scandal intensifies... After Evan is seen disappearing with a journalist's son at a party, he is found dead and she becomes the primary suspect in a murder investigation. Did "the Killer Princess" really do it? It seems that only the Queen's gorgeous nephew Kit will help Evan clear her name. But can she really trust anyone at the palace?
