I was so profoundly moved by the message and plotline in this article and am seriously so thankful to "Independently Published," NetGalley, and A Gee for granting me access to this magnificent read before it was set to publish to the public. I always appreciate well-done literary fiction, and I count Myth Takes as a well-done publication.

An interesting little book! I enjoyed the updates of Greek myth into rhyme, but I wonder if I'd have been able to keep up with the stories and references without a good working knowledge of the mythology in the first place. I found it a little fast paced in places. The poems cover a wide range of myths and refer often to source texts and their authors, so a fun primer for those willing to go and do a little research or for those just looking to dip a toe into some Greek myth.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am enamored with Fiona Benson's poetry about Greek mythology. Unfortunately, my expectations were shattered here. Mythology and poetry. High expectations but this didn't hold the candle at all.

Thank you to A Gee, Independent Publishing, and NetGalley for a free arc (advanced reader copy) of "Myth Takes: Rhyme and reason in the Age of Entitlement" for an honest review.

I have to say this one stole my heart a little before I even opened it. One, I love mythology. Two, I love the modern commentary and modern takes on narrative arcs of the past, especially mythology updating. Three, I love poetry. While it wasn't completely as riveting as some other poetry handling the same in the last two years, I did find myself smiling at small bits throughout & I loved how the references weren't just "surface-level" mythology that could have been known through tv/movie watching, but dug into the depth of the rich canon.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me this eARC to review.

I did not like this at all. The poetry was very jarring with the modern lingo and the classical mythology intwined so I felt like I couldn't really connect with it. Some people will love how jarring it is but I did not.

Short but poignant - I particularly enjoyed the meter of the rhyming poems and felt like they need to be read aloud for maximum enjoyment. Would’ve liked a bit more critical thinking as opposed to just retellings but overall I thought this was very well done!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC & the opportunity to read this early - will recommend to my poetry-loving readers.

It was a nice short read. I'm not as brushed up on my Greek mythology as I thought I was, so some of the references went over my head. I did enjoy some of the pieces though, specifically "Soul Fires" and "Late Additions".

Truth be told, I've been interested in Greek Mythology for a long time, and I thought this would be interesting to read a modern take on Greek Mythology. However, I could barely even get through this book in the first place. It didn't resonate with me, I found it to be a page turner just to see if I would enjoy it more. I really wanted to like it, but could barely get through it at all.

It seems to me it just used modern language to describe stories that have been told before, but I actually found them more confusing than educational or even fun for me. I'd be interested to read other works by this author, but I just didn't really enjoy this one.

This is a super short, but super fun collection of Greek mythology based poems. A Gee takes tales as old as time and updates them with modern slang and lingo. I think it makes the myths more relatable, but it also just feels like a retelling of each story, I found some of them to be super lyrical and others fell flat. I felt like this was a little too fast paced and a little haphazardly thrown together. Overall, quick and fun read, but nothing to write home about.

It's a nice poetry collection if you want something quick to read. Nothing too groundbreaking or new but it was fun. Especially loved the poem about Hercules.

Thank you netgalley for letting me read this! I love mythology and occasionally love short, one sitting books, so this was great! ✨️ It's written through poetry and is really accessible. I still enjoyed it as someone familiar with all the characters, and I think those new to mythology would love it too. 🧚‍♂️

I think it's great to mix mythology into modern day language and really relate it to things people can connect with but as purposeful as the typos were, I found it challenging to stay engaged when it felt like it wasn't written with attention

A collection of essays and stories examining Greek mythology through a modern lens.
I am a sucker for the trend of re-examining Greek mythology. So seeing this book come across as a suggested read, I was more than a little excited to sit down and read the book. It was interesting to include purposeful typos. It made me slow down and pay attention to the writing.
However, middle grade students are not as adept to notice such things. When they are working to improve their vocabulary skills at that age, it is important to expose them to properly edited and written material. Given this aspect of curriculum, I am hesitant to add it to a middle school library.
From a personal standpoint, I enjoyed the book as it was insightful and a quick read.

I actually really enjoyed this. I thought it was very insightful poetry and remarks on gods and how they relate to more gimmicky saying is that we have in every day culture. But when I went to review this on goodreads I could not find out so that was unfortunate that I couldn’t access another platform to review this book on, and I hope it can be updated soon, but I would recommend this is a quick to read funny insightful book on some history and some present day connections

I just thought it would be more creative considering the description. All I saw was mythology names dropping with random modern lingo.
