Book 1 in the Lucy Kendall series

Former social worker Lucy Kendall is now a private investigator. She left CPS because of the restrictions- now she can really help stop sexual predators. When a little girl goes missing, who just happens to live across the street from a recently released convict from Lucy's past, she becomes obsessed with finding the girl before it is too late.

First, the official blurb leaves out a very interesting detail that you learn nearly immediately- Lucy is basically a female Dexter who specializes in pedophiles. She enacts her own form of justice.

I was instantly drawn in and loved all the unexpected revelations that happen.

I listened to the audiobook. Amelia Sciandra narrates. She is not a narrator I've ever listened to before. The narration was the worst thing about the book- it isn't super awful, but I found it distracting. Especially the way she pronounces "o"s. I never did quite put my finger on it. At first, I thought Minnesota/Wisconsin, but not quite. Canada? Maybe. Then she spoke in dialogue for a male character and it brought surfer dude vibes. Anyway, I found it very distracting, obviously. I eventually got used to it.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is a good listen the main character Lucy Kendall is a private investigator and as this is Book 1 of a series its a good start , it covered kidnapping, child abuse and pedophiles
There are lots of twists and turns before the real perpetrator is found but what is interesting is how Lucy deals with them when she tracks them down
I did enjoy this book but I have read 2 books by other authors with vigilante woman and that did slightly spoil this for me but don't let that out you off as its still worth a read/listen

This book was great! Lucy Kendall is the vigilante hero we need! She’s tough and doles out much deserved punishment in my humble opinion. Even though the subject matter is hard (kids being hurt is never enjoyable to read) it was written tastefully & didn’t shy away or sugar coat the dark things that happen in life. The twist was everything I need in a suspense novel! I am so excited to read the next Lucy Kendall book!

I enjoyed this book, it was a quick read. The author did a great job taking a hard topic of abuse and writing about it with dignity. The story had many twists and kept me guessing till the end. Will read the next book in the series.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.

Previously published as All Good Deeds.- (I happen to like that name better.)
When the Girl in Pink Shoes gets kidnapped- Lucy Kendall is on the case. Previously a caseworker for Child Protection Services now a Private Investor (and vigilante). I like how Lucy works.

Story line kept me intrigued. Was curious as to who did it.. Kidnapping and child abuse is a rough subject. Written not to descriptively so hopefully wont be triggering to some.

Solid 3.5- voted down to 3.

The Girl in the Pink Shoes tells the story of Lucy Kendall. Lucy used to work for Child Protective Services, investigating paedophiles, but found that she struggled with not being able to bring them to justice. She is now a private investigator with a secret, she tracks down known paedophiles and brings them her own sense of justice, using cyanide. When a little girl goes missing, Lucy fears that there may be links to a recently released local ex-offender that she helped to convict many years ago. She jumps into the investigation and quickly discovers that there is much more to this case than she first thought.

I mean, yes this book is unrealistic, but I really loved it! I found myself bonding with the main character, Lucy, and quickly became invested in the story and just needed to know how it all played out.

The writing was good and the plot line drew me in and kept me hooked. There were twists and turns along the way and I was gripped right up until the very end.

I am now very much looking forward to reading what Lucy gets up to next.

My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.

When I requested this novel, I did not realize that this was being re-released from its previous title of, All Good Deeds. It’s the 1st in the Lucy Kendall series which after peering through GR, has a pretty good following and decent reviews—and the final book seems to be the best of the bunch. I’m not sure if I will read them all but this was just OK to me… maybe a little more so, simply for the chase, darkness and many suspects to fool you, aspect. I received an audio and I feel the narrator is prob what did me in— I was not a fan of her inflection. The storyline itself is grim and full of triggers. The protagonist herself is a killer but keeps getting away with it?🤷🏼‍♀️(She keeps justifying her killings as good deeds, taking out the bad guys and says it’s ok bc she’s not a sociopath.) I certainly was appreciative of the opportunity to listen and review! 3.5-4⭐️ rating as I feel this would do better in book form than Audio.

Fast paced, clever and with many twists and turns. I enjoyed the narrator and felt emersed in the story. Some of the twists I did see coming but they were all very well done. I look forward to reading more in the series.

The Girl in the Pink Shoes
(Lucy Kendall #1)
Stacy Green
Loss of her fifteen-year-old sister influenced Lucy Kendall’s line of work. Lucy’s sister was abused: although her mother ignored it. Lucy began by working for Child Protective Services, but she couldn’t handle the stress of seeing so many child abusers escaping punishment. So, she turned to Private Investigating. Lucy was a dangerous woman for abusers,
Years ago when Lucy was a Social Worker there was a case centering around Justin Beckett. Lucy tried to get the boy removed from his home but failed. A few weeks later he was confined to a youth mental health facility for assaulting and murdering a young girl.
Years later, Justin is released from the facility. Lucy is furious and determined to watch the young man. One day while she was observing a man she suspects of child molestation, she is approached by another male, Chris Hale. He introduces himself to Lucy. He explains he is an EMT and a sociopath murderer. He knows what Lucy is and admires her. When a child goes missing Lucy and Chris team up together to find the girl. Lucy suspects Justin of the abduction.
I’m not sure who I disliked the most: Lucy or Chris or Todd. This is the first book in this series. There is a mild romance between Lucy and Chris. I had high hopes for this book but it left me disappointed.

Please note: this book deals with the tough subject of child abuse/child sexual abuse.

Every parent's worst nightmare has become reality, her daughter is gone missing.

A former CPS employee has taken things into her own hands alongside local police to find the little girl.

The list of suspects grows throughout this story and the twist and turns unfold.

Between Lucy’s past and just when you think they have pinned pointed the suspect, comes a curveball.

Reminds me a lot of Stephanie Plum series - I can see this full series with a lot of twist to keep you on your toes! I listened to this over the weekend and enjoy the fast-paced read. Look forward to the next in the series.

The narrator was excellent, easy to listen to, and really felt her as Lucy’s character.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this gem!

The Girl in the Pink Shoes is a crime novel featuring Private Investigator and serial killer Lucy Kendall.
When Kailey goes missing on her way home from school Lucy is quick to start her investigation. Since her own sister was abused and subsequently took her own life, she feels compelled to bring every paedophile in the area to justice.
The novel moves between this investigation, Lucy’s family history and a case she was involved with when she was a social worker. It feels like this could be the first novel in a series featuring Lucy as there is a lot more to explore with this complex character.

A disturbing but well written book. Eight year old Kailey Richardson is reported missing. PI Lucy Kendall insinuates herself into the investigation. Tracking sexual offenders is what she does, after all.

Lucy is a highly flawed protagonist fighting demons that lead her to take justice into her own hands when she perceives the criminal justice system has failed society. Primarily because of this, I found this book to be well written but not for me. I have no problem with main characters who "bend" the law in the interest of justice, but I cannot relate to this level of criminality in my protagonist. If that is not a deterrent for you, then I recommend this book.

When I saw the description I was hooked. I’m all about anti-heroes and was totally on board with the main character Lucy’s extracurricular activities (aka murdering pedophiles). Maybe it’s because I am a social worker but so much else in this book didn’t work for me. I thought there were a lot of holes in the plot that stretched my ability to suspend belief. Lucy was a burnt out social worker and after an 11 year old boy, Justin, on her caseload molested and murdered a 10 year old girl she’s changed. When he is released 10 years later without having to register she is upset and quits to be a private investigator. While I can understand her concerns an 11 year old boy molesting a 10 year old girl does not mean he’ll be a pedophile. She was very stuck on the fact that pedophiles can’t be cured (which is totally true, although with children sometimes treatment can intervene if it’s early enough) that she ignored the fact that it wasn’t a guarantee he would be a pedophile. When a young girl goes missing Lucy is determined to investigate and prove that Justin did it since he lives across the street. No matter how much the evidence seemed to suggest it wasn’t Justin Lucy was determined it must be. I’d think we were moving past the early obvious red herring and the next page she would be back at proving it’s him. It slowed the book way down and left me easily distracted. I did think there were a couple of interesting bits regarding a mysterious man Lucy meets during her extracurricular activities and his character has some potential I think. Lucy was a bit self-centered and despite good intentions in need of quite a bit of therapy. She also was a bit too slow on the uptake for me, I like my amateur sleuth/narrator to catch on to at least some of the clues. The narrator did a good job, I liked the way she brought the characters to life, even when I didn’t love the characters themselves. This is book one of four and they are all being re=released this year. Overall I gave it 2,5 stars rounded up for having the serial killer be female since that never happens.

This one is the first in the series. I’m not actually sure where to start with this one. At times it’s an uncomfortable listen and really shows the flaws in a system thats put in place to help. I did find the listen very drawn out and it lacked the fast pace for this type of storyline but having said that it is trying to portray some very tough topics. It’s told from the point of view of Lucy’s past and present and written very well and it’s like the past pops up just as the the present is getting somewhere so definitely has the suspense factor. The narration was engaging and worked well for the listen. The characters are all likeable in there own ways. I did find some aspects a little hard to believe but suppose that’s the beauty of books. All in all a good listen.

3.75/5 🌟🌟🌟/🌟

3.5 stars recommend for fans of Karin slaughter.

This is dark and can be descriptive so I’d advise against reading this if you’re easily triggered. The case deals with child abuse, trafficking, rape and molested.

Overall, i had trouble putting this one down even though it wasn’t very plausible and there were so many coincidences it reads like a lifetime crime show… yet, I plan to read #2

SUMMARY: 33yo Lucy is a PI by day (formerly CPS) and a vigilante by night. She’s about to kill her 5th pedophile when a blue-eyed stranger introduces himself as a fellow “garbage man”

Lucy is skeptical of this self-identifying sociopath but has little time to think about it because she gets a call that a little girl (yep, in pink shoes) has gone missing AND she loves across the street from 21yo Justin, someone she believes to be a pedophile (she was involved with his case when she was still CPS).

The rest of the book follows Lucy as she tries to find this little girl and in doing so lifts up a few rocks with shocking surprises underneath (some were a hard sell for me). She also grapples with who she is as a person and what she’s doing.

The book wraps up but not perfectly leading into a #2 but you don’t have to read #2.

The narrator was a great choice too!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for gifting me an audio ARC of this crime thriller by Stacy Green, narrated by Amelia Sciandra - 4.5 stars rounded up!

Private Investigator Lucy Kendall, disillusioned by her time working as a CPS case worker and by the loss of her own sister, is on a personal mission of vengeance against those who hurt small children. When she learns about missing 8-year-old Kailey who never made it home after school, she is desperate to find her. Lucy becomes fixated on one of Kailey's neighbors who is a convicted sex offender and who Lucy knows through her CPS work. His brother is a police detective on the case, so Lucy is convinced he won't be considered a prime suspect. And time is ticking to find Kailey.

What a riveting book! Of course, the subject matter is disturbing but I couldn't stop listening. There were so many characters that kept you guessing as to their real motives and plenty of plot twists along the way. Lucy is an interesting character - you'll find yourself rooting for this self-proclaimed killer! The narration was spot on and easy to follow. This is the first in a series - I can't wait to read more of Lucy's adventures.

To be fair, this book might be a trigger for a lot of people because it contains the following: Murder, rape, Child abuse, sexual abuse, human trafficking, sexual trafficking, poisoning. I really liked this book and I do believe that there are avenging angels out there and I wish I could hunt them down! I am totally on Lucy's side and can understand why she does what she does. She's a very damaged individual. There's a lot of damage individuals in this book and lot of deviant, sick individuals too. Regardless of all the violence in this story there was not many swearwords. Yes, there was the occasional F bomb but the books seem to do very well without some foul language that I've seen another books I've read, or in my case, listened to! One thing I have to say. This story takes place in Philadelphia and the narrator doesn't have a Philadelphia accent. I'm not saying that they have to talk like Philadelphia's most famous fictional character, Rocky Balboa and say things like 'yo Adrian!' A Philadelphia accent is very similar to a New York City accent. The narrator sounds like she might be Canadian. This is in no way takes away from the story at all but it's something I noticed because all of my books are audiobooks and I noticed things like that! This is the second publication of this book. It came out in 2014 under another name. I never heard of this author or this book until I saw it here on NetGalley.

Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for this ARC. This book should be coming out at the end of this month.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance audiobook copy of The Girl in the Pink Shoes by Stacy Green in exchange for an honest review. This was a heavy subject to read about, child abduction and pedophiles, but was well written. Lucy is a likable character easy to relate to.

With the promise of mystery/suspense, mixed with themes of miscarriage of justice, vigilante murder and child sexual abuse, this book should have had me hanging on every word. I wouldn't go that far, but it did move steadily along and was reasonably compelling; although it isn't the paciest book I have read by a country mile.

Lucy as a character is just OK (vigilantism and annoying biases aside) - As a PI she is somewhat of a maverick, so interfering with a Police investigation and warnings by the Police officer leading the investigation go unheeded, whilst she makes decisions which, quite frankly, are irrational. In terms of the story itself, there are a LOT of coincidences, so you need to suspend belief to accept some of those plot points, along with many of Lucy's decisions.

I had the audio version of the book and in all honesty I wasn't too keen on the narrator's accent - in particular her very flat 'o'. Overall I enjoyed the story, but probably won't continue to read the other books in the series; although I suspect that the series will improve as the characters develop.

Many thanks to NetGallery and Bookouture Audio for allowing me to get an advanced copy - the book is out on 30th January 2023.

Private Investigator Lucy Kendall wronged a 11yr old Justin when she was part of CPS, and when Justin ends up getting arrested for the murder of a younger girl Lucy is really shocked.
In the current day when Lucy sees a flier for a missing 8-yr old girl, she thinks she know who is responsible for all the happenings – but as the past of the mother of the missing girl comes to light Lucy is very confused and she starts to work at a lightning speed to figure out all the on goings of this case. Lucy has to work with Justin’s brother Todd who is a cop now and Todd is really not happy that Lucy sometimes has her own way of working.
There were multiple possibilities in this story and the story has been executed very well, I look forward to reading the rest of the books in Lucy Kendall series.
Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture Audio and Stacy Green for approving the audio ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
