OMG I am so glad that Karin Slaughter has brought back Will Trent (do not think the TV Will Trent is the same) and Sara Linton back to us and this book is excellent it ties up what happened to Sara on her worst night 15 years previously and a promise she made to a dying patient.
The story has some distressing scenes involving rape but they are not over sensationalised and the story is balanced out perfectly with the strong characters that Karin Slaughter has created. And now that I have finished it I miss them all and I can't wait until the next novel comes out.
Absolutely love this series and this was one of the most gripping so far. Brilliant plot amazing characters and everyone needs to read the whole series it’s amazing.
After That Night tells the story ofWill Trent's partner, Sara Linton. She is medical examiner who gives evidence in a criminal trial that brings her memories from an attack she suffered 15 years ago. Sara starts to see similarities between both cases, and believes they could be linked. Is she making it all up in her head to find closure or is there a serial killer on the loose?
Karin Slaughter has done it again, this has to be one of the most gripping stories to date. I love her novels, they keep getting better and better, and the Will & Sara formula works so well. I love that they have their own storyline but at the same time, all novels can be read as standalone stories. Karin is a genius!!
This book contains heavy themes and can be absolutely terrifying at some points.
An absolut page turner!

Disclosure: I would like to thank the publisher and author for my advanced review copy of the book. This is my honest review
I could not love Sara Linton or Will Trent (or Faith or Amanda) more. With every new book Karin outdoes herself with the complexity of the plot, the pace, the intrigue and the drama. And because the characters are so brilliant, and the cases are often so personal - this one even more than most - there is always such a palpable sense of jeopardy that I spend most of the book with my heart in my throat.
After That Night deals unflinchingly with some incredibly dark and devastating crimes, and the detail and clarity with which Karin explores them makes it hard to read sometimes, but always makes for a realistic, compelling plot where you care deeply about the victims.
This is one of Karin’s best books yet, it is SO gripping, and I don’t think I could have been more shocked by the conclusion. Every scene with Will in (I love him) and especially Will and Sara together makes me happy - and usually also scared. I finished it wanting to go back and read the entire series again from the start, and also wanting to write to Karin and make her promise never to kill off Will, Sara or Faith. I care so much about these characters and am already desperate for the next book in the series.
Sara Linton, medical examiner, is giving evidence in a trial where the victim was raped and subsequently died. As the case draws to an end, the mother of the defendant (who knows Sara from their university days) reveals there may be more then this case to look into. Sara’s partner, GBI Agent Will Trent and work partner Faith are investigating a similar attack. With the revelation made by the defendants mother, Sara can’t help think that these recent attacks are linked to her own experience 15 years prior, where Sara too was attacked and left for dead.
So good to have Sara, Will and Faith back. Amanda too!! This is a corker of a storyline and truly is one where you can’t put it down. Quite a raw subject by the writing is compelling, the plot and characters are so well developed. An epic read.
Be prepared to lose time! Reading time on my Kindle at the start was estimated at 10 1/2 hrs, and I thought "How?". When I finished the book a few days later I felt sad that it had ended! There was a need to find out what was happening and why so I constantly was reading - wanting to reach the end but not really wanting it to end. I had an inkling of who on one of the plot lines but was still gripped.
Yes the story revists the Sara rape storyline, but it was such a defining feature of where she ended up and why and was never truly resolved that this was always a possibility. In real life it is rare that crimes are solved and resolved in a short time frame like in the soaps on TV and victims don't just wrap up their feelings and move on.
I love Karin Slaughters' writing and jump at the chance of a new read. I didnt even read the blurb or have a clue what it was about but always have faith that I am in for a hell of a journey!
Thank you to Netgalley, Harper Collins and Karin Slaughter for this ARC. A definate must read.
This was such a gripping thriller and terrifying how close to reality it truly is. This is my first Karin Slaughter but it won't be my last, I was blown away by the writing, plot and characters. I loved the mix of the past linked to the present and seeing everything come together with a more personal connection to the investigators. This was twisty and suspenseful - I thoroughly enjoyed.
I’m a big fan of Karin Slaughter’s books and particularly her Will Trent and Sara Linton series so I was excited to be granted this arc and I was definitely not disappointed when I read it!
Sara and Will are busy planning their wedding but there is also a trial that Sara has to testify in where a young man is accused of the rape of one of Sara’s patients who subsequently died.
Tommy, the accused, is the son of Sara’s ex colleague, Mac, and she fears that certain aspects of her own past might come up when she is called as the main witness. Mac and his wife, Britt know a lot about her life 15 years previously
However whilst in the bathroom after the trial she learns something shocking from Britt, which leads to an investigation stretching back 15 years and relating to her own horrific experience as a young woman. Sara has to confront her own past to help Will and Faith discover what is still happening to young women today.
This is a long book but I skipped through it in a couple of days. Some of the content was quite graphic and it is not always an easy read but, like all of this author’s books, it is compelling and of course very exciting. I liked the way that Will, Sara and Faith built up the case in Faith’s kitchen, Even Faith’s son has a role to play in helping to catch the bad guys.
I tried to read the book slowly as I didn’t want it to finish and know that I would have to wait quite a long time for the next book in the series. However I was enjoying it so much I couldn’t put it down.
Definitely an excellent addition to this fantastic series and is recommended as a five star read by me.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my advance copy.
Karin Slaughter has a winning formula with the Will Trent series and her latest instalment doesn’t disappoiny
And Will Trent is back with a bang 💣
Will, his partner Faith and fiance Medical examiner Sara Linton are pulled into a case that they secretly start investigating due to the personal connections that they have with the victims.
15 years ago Sara was horrifically raped, beaten and stabbed and now the past is coming back to haunt her when other victims of rape are found with very similar injuries and circumstances that lead up to their assaults.
Sara is in court being cross examined about the death of a young woman Dani Cooper who's last words to Sara were "I was raped" but she was the only one to hear them.
Will, Faith and Sara need to connect the strings and figure out just who the rapist is before he strikes again.
This is one seriously complex case that had me gripped from the very beginning. At times it literally took my breathe away.
The whole plot was flawless, high octane and full of twists with one hell of a shock explosive ending that actually made me gasp out loud.
Karin has the most extraordinary way of weaving this morbid fascination with compassion and empathy that just has you wanting more.
Horrifying, dark, gritty and super fast paced you will not want to put this down. This is easily the best in the series yet!
** warning: this could be deeply disturbing for some as some of the scenes are graphic and harrowing **
Massive thanks to netgalley and Harper Collins UK for the ARC.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this novel.
Karin Slaughter does not disappoint me, ever. This is a complex and dark story, spanning 15 years. Old, dark memories are raked over for Sara, when she gives evidence in a rape trial, and a cryptic conversation cause Will, Sara and Faith to launch an unofficial investigation into an old case, which for Sara becomes very personal.
As with most of Karin’s books, the story is peeled back in layers, with twists and turns which keep you guessing. Well developed characters, who’s stories develop along with the plot.
Undecided on this one. I haven't liked her last few standalone books so was excited to get back to the Will Trent series. The book starts with the Sara rape story, AGAIN!! When an author reuses the same storyline too many times it screams 'I have no new ideas'.
I think if this plot had been independent and hadn't rehashed old storyline it would have worked much better for me.
I haven't read a Karen Slaughter book for quite a while so jumped at the chance to read her latest. Although I've missed some of the Will Trent books it was easy enough to slot back in. I enjoyed the book almost as much as the Grant County series. My only slight irritation is the underlying assumption that all women are subjected to non-stop sexual harassment, violence and/or rape. I know it happens and certain professions are far worse than others but I can honestly say that I've never had my 'arse squeezed' by a colleague or when out. Maybe I'm just lucky.
Other than that, the writing is as sharp as ever.
Karin Slaughter is back with another great Sara Linton/Will Trent novel.
They are investigating a series of brutal rapes of young women and suspicion falls on Sara's own classmates from medical school. Investigation of these entitled and obnoxious characters forces Sara to confront her own past.
The book moves inexorably to a shocking conclusion!
I would like to thank Netgalley and Harper Collins Publishing for the chance to read and review this book
Hooked from the very first chapter!
I was so pleased to be approved for this ARC, and I was not disappointed. Having read all the previous novels in the Will Trent and Sara Linton series, I’d been eagerly awaiting this book. It is full of intrigue and suspense, twists and turns. It can also be enjoyed as a stand-alone if readers haven’t read the preceding novels.
There was one final twist at the end that I keep thinking about since finishing the book; it really shocked me and has left me with many questions.
A highly recommended read.
Will Trent and Sara Linton investigate the brutal rapes of several young women. Little do they know that the case will force Sara to revisit the worst moments of her life, as they find links to her own rape fifteen years previously.
The more the case progresses, the more the answers appear to lie in the past. And, as difficult as that is, the pair fearlessly seek the truth, whatever the personal cost.
After That Night is an expertly plotted thriller with a complex story arc and a great deal of personal reflection for the main characters. It is a difficult story to read at times, brutally emotional but always engaging. Will and Sara are well established characters, but this novel reveals a great more about them.
Totally terrifying - but in a good way! This is a story that once started it is completely impossible to stop reading. The level of shock and horror are continually ratcheting up the suspense. Karin Slaughter never fails to deliver a great read and this book is no exception.
Karin Slaughter was one of my go to authors years ago and I must have reread all her books and loved the Sara/Jeff series and then the Sara/Will ones but for some reason I hadn’t read her books in a while so seeing this available to request made me wonder why and reading it made me remember why I loved her books, Karin certainly doesn’t hold back on the gritty violence and evil that sadly happens much too often in reality. I must go back and find the other books that She has written that I’ve missed out on.
After That Night by Karin Slaughter sees the welcome return of Will Trent and Sara Linton.
On call in ER Sara finds the life of a sexually assaulted young woman literally in her hands. The suspect is the privileged son of a rather repellent couple from her past, people she knew from her Peer Group at medical school when she was also the victim of a sexual predator.
As the investigation progresses it becomes clear that despite the passage of time the women's ordeals appear to be linked.
This is an often harrowing read, not least given the theme of sexual predation , and as ever Karin Slaughter doesn't pull any punches, lacing the narrative with very disturbing statistics about the low prosecution rates and vast numbers of such crimes. The theme of the rich and powerful being almost immune from prosecution is also raised.
Social issues aside this is a strong story as Will,Sara and a cast of other regulars first investigate then go after a group of truly despicable individuals with the couple's forthcoming nuptials as a backstory.
Please be aware that rape is the theme of this book so if that's going to cause you upset or trauma it's one to avoid. It's not remotely exploitative and Karin Slaughter uses it to hammer home how society fails victims of rape and women in general.
I am always such a lover of Karin Slaughter and this book did not fall short. I was absolutely mesmerised from the first page and my interest continued all the way to the very end.
The twists & plot reveals were incredibly done and every single detail was pivotal in the story. Another great read!
