When a young girl arrives at the hospital critically injured, Sara is the only person who hears her claim of sexual assault. The circumstances remind Sara of her own ordeals when a student, and she quickly finds herself drawn back into those dark times. What is the connection between the two events, even though so many years have passed between them?
Karin Slaughter’s books are always darkly enjoyable and After That Night is no exception. Whilst some of the clues were easy to follow, the final chapters took me completely by surprise and led the plot in a direction I hadn’t anticipated. All in all, a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable read.
This latest installment gives us more insight into Sara Linton’s past and wow it does not disappoint. Will Trent remains the stoic quiet supportive partner that Sara needs and deserves in this book and the crime element has all the makings to provide the disturbing brilliance of Karin Slaughters writing. The twisted story of secret clubs and rape, how some people believe they are above everyone lose and can get away with (actual) murder is gripping and holly disgusting.
I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley and provide an honest review
Absolutely fantastic installment. I loved everything about this one. It was so good to be back amongst good friends. My advice is to read the whole series. It is top notch and highly recommended by me. I can't wait for the next installment. I know it will be great.
If you're into crime thrillers, I am sure you have already read Karin Slaughter's books. After That Night It's part of her Will Trent series and it's been getting some serious buzz. Slaughter's writing is seriously gripping - I couldn't put the book down! Her characters are so well-developed and the plot is full of twists and turns that'll keep you guessing until the very last page.
as described by the publisher, this is a book with a twist. You cannot imagine the ending until this book is read.
Karin Slaughter is a master of this genre and this book is no exception. She will keep you waiting until then end...
Karin slaughter had me turning the pages so fast my eyes couldn’t keep up! Would definitely recommend this book - loved it!
A very deep tale- an unsettling but riveting read. I couldn’t put this book down. The characters were developed fantastically and the whole story just gelled together.
Will Trent book 11
Gritty police procedural, following Will Trent who is a special agent with GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigations), his partner, Faith Mitchell and his fiance, Sara Linton of Slaughters Grant County series, who is a pathologist consulting to the GBI
Initially confusing with the timelines,.it took me a while to get into After That Night. But once I got into the story, it dragged me in. The time jumps, differing plot points and the dive into Sara's past was so well done.
At times hard to read due to the subject matter, this book packs a punch, and Slaughter hits the mark as always, finding new ways for Will et all to keep is on the hook. Looking forward to book 12, later this year.
This was the first Karin Slaughter book I have read and it was a cracker. Dealing with deeply disturbing issues, it was a compelling read with many surprises. Will now read the rest of the books in the series.
Brutal, gritty, graphic...everything you'd expect from a Karin Slaughter novel. I love Will Trent and Sara Linton, I think they're both brilliant characters. This can be read as a standalone, but I'd really recommend reading the earlier books in the Will Trent series to really get to know the characters first, and this covers a lot of Sara's history. The plot is pretty grim, but so well written and although it made me uncomfortable, I couldn't put it down.
TW: rape, abuse, assault, violence
Found this one heavy going. I felt like not much happened but it took a very long time to get to the end, wanted to know who the bad guys were so I kept reading but not really an enjoyable read.
Fab twisty thriller from one of my favourite authors. Great character development and a real page turner so much so I read in one sitting!
Sarah's past comes back to haunt her in the form of a rape victim. This book is unputdownable. It had me completely entrapped in it's clutches until the last page. One of my favourite authors and she never disappoints. A heart pounding read!
Will and Sara are back and unfortunately for Sara when she sees to a young rape patient named Dani Cooper she has no idea that it will unleash her own tragic past. When Dani dies from her injuries Sara is determined to get to the bottom of who was responsible having no clue that she would be directly in the firing line. She ends up testifying against Tommy McAlistair and soon realises that there are links between Dani and her own brutal rape many years before.
The end result is that Will along with his partner Faith go behind their boss Amanda's back to try and get to the bottom of it all. This also opens old wounds for Will as he is faced with speaking to his Aunt Eliza whom he loathes but has to work with to help Sara. The story progresses with multiple moving parts and frankly I didn't want to put this one down. This was pretty gut wrenching in parts but was very well written and I found myself just continuously turning pages and getting completely lost in the story.
Whilst the underlying theme throughout the book may not sit well with some people (sexual assault/rape) I feel like it was done well and as this is something that has formed part of Sara's character over many years it is fitting to see her working through this element of her past. Overall another brilliant book which I thoroughly enjoyed
Another great Karin Slaughter book. It is helpful to have read previous books in this series but not essential. I recommend doing it though.
This was a tough read as Slaughter doesn't hold back with the more graphic scenes (she never does) and language. So it is not for the faint hearted but it never felt gratuitous to me, it all felt shockingly, depressingly realistic and horrific.
It should go without saying because of the synopsis but massive TWs for rape and sexual assault.
Love all these books, amazing story about Sarah and Will . Would recommend reading in order . Can’t wait for the next one ! Would recommend all her books,
This book deals with the hard hitting subject of rape, the descriptions are detailed and quite graphic, so it can be hard to read/listen to (I went between kindle and audio copies) It is however pertinent to the story and definitely intensifies the drama.
This is a police procedural, with the lead detective Will Trent back for his 11th outing. It's a gritty and twisty book, with plenty of threads to keep the reader thoroughly engaged.
Dr Sara Linton works in the ER and the current series of rapes take her right back, 15 years, to when she was raped in the exact same manor, her rapist having been caught and jailed. We come to learn more about the background to Sara's story and the people she was around at that time, which brings forth numerous suspects for the present day cases. Was her accused really the perpetrator? Or did the wrong guy go to jail?
I'm not sure how long Will Trent and Sara's relationship has been developing as this is only the 2nd book I have read in this series, but it's interesting to see how this is navigated with such an emotional and traumatic subject being reignited for Sara.
Some parts of it were a bit slow for me, and a little bit long, hence the 4 stars. However, overall it was a great book, with plenty to think about in terms of subjects that are important to today's society and the way that rape cases are still dealt with. Fans of the series will absolutely love it, and I think I need to catch up with the books from the start to get even more from it.
Thank you to Netgalley, Harper Collins UK and Karin Slaughter for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.
I've always been a fan of Karin and I was not disappointed. The tension was perfect throughout and I was kept gripped from start to end. A highly intense and thrilling read. Highly recommended.
This was a dark, gruelling and extremely tense book that had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I absolutely love Will, Sara and Faith and they really showed what makes them such incredible characters even after so many books. Slaughter always writes such gripping stories and this one packed an emotional punch as well as taking readers on a wild ride.
Karin Slaughter is a favourite author of mine and she never disappoints. This was some thriller… it gripped me from page one and I didn’t come up for air throughout.
The writing style is very good. The book was quite dark and fast paced. I really enjoyed it and didn’t guess where it was going at all.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for this arc.
