This is a solid series written by a solid author.
Karin Slaughter's reputation precedes her with a reason as she always delivers a crime story with a lot of research gone into the field of crime and medical examination inquiries. Her main character developments are consistently well developed and the Linton/Trent relationship is pure delight to follow. I know I am a romantic at heart but you need this to counteract the awful aspects of human deprivation explored in these books.
Love Karin's books and look forward to the next settlement.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for providing an early copy of the book in exchange for a review.
I’ve read all of the Will Trent series and I’m a big fan. This one took me a little longer to get into than the others, with a slow start and long chapters. In the first 3/4 there’s a lot of talking about the case (sometimes repetitive) and not much action.
However I love the characters and the story picks up and keeps you interested. The end is wrapped up nicely. Looking forward to the next one in the series to see what comes next for everyone.
Karin Slaughter has the amazing ability to balance a narrative just right, so that even if find some of the subject matter hard to stomach, you would never even consider not reading on.
I haven’t read any of the Linton/Trent books since the first one (which I loved), so I did remember some of the backstory of the lead characters but I don’t think it would really matter as you are told how new events affect and relate to old ones.
Overall, a gripping, pacy read that makes you want to immediately attack Slaughter’s back catalogue.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an arc of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

ABOUT 'AFTER THAT NIGHT': After that night, nothing was ever the same again …
Fifteen years ago, Sara Linton's life changed forever when a celebratory night out ended in a violent attack that tore her world apart. Since then, Sara has remade her life. A successful doctor, engaged to a man she loves, she has finally managed to leave the past behind her.
Until one evening, on call in the ER, everything changes. Sara battles to save a broken young woman who's been brutally attacked. But as the investigation progresses, led by GBI Special Agent Will Trent, it becomes clear that Dani Cooper's assault is uncannily linked to Sara's.
And it seems the past isn't going to stay buried forever …
MY THOUGHTS: Long-winded with a touch too much technical medical stuff, but totally engrossing.
I haven't read a Will Trent book in a while and I didn't realise until I started this how much I had been missing out on, so I have some catching up to do. It would be possible to read this as a stand-alone, but it's a stellar series and, in all probability, you're going to want to read the whole series so why not just start at the beginning.
Karin Slaughter manages to combine all the nuances of everyday life with a cracker of a crime novel. Sara and Will's wedding day is enticingly close: can Will dance? Does Sara have pearls to wear with her wedding dress? Can Faith change her son's mind about his career choice? You know the stuff . . .
Will and Faith are already on boss Amanda's sh*tlist when they decide to go rogue and investigate a case without her authorization after a rape victim dies under Sara's care and utters a plea for Sara to make sure her rapist is caught with her dying breath.
The plot is complex but riveting. There is a sense of despair as the rapist appears to get away with his crime, but Sara, Faith and Will are spurred on by another very similar crime and an apparent connection to Sara's rape many years earlier.
Slaughter has drawn some magnificent characters from the wealthy, arrogant, entitled to the doggedly determined to the greedy and corrupt.
I laughed at the crime board covering Faith's fridge door and kitchen cabinets. I cried at the pain and trauma of the rape victims. I was awed by the twists Slaughter incorporated into the plot.
This is not an easy read, but Karin Slaughter's books never are. It is an excellent read and was very nearly a five star read for me but I do admit to glazing over at the sheer amount of technical medical information and terminology in parts.
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5

A return to Sara Linton & Will Trent did not disappoint.
An action packed, hard hitting drama novel with Slaughters signature style was just what I needed and I couldn’t put the book down until the satisfying ending.
A little twist thrown in and revisits to both Trent and Lintons past gave a great memory nudge.
Would definitely recommend!
Fast-paced thriller trying to catch a serial rapist. Detectives and doctor team up to put together the clues and get the proof needed. A great read!
I highly recommend the latest addition to the Will Trent series, which can also be enjoyed as a standalone novel. Even though I haven't read all the previous books, I found the suspense to be thrilling, with well-developed characters and a captivating relationship between Trent and Linton.
The fast-paced storyline flowed seamlessly, creating an edgy and entertaining atmosphere. However, it's important to note that this read is darker than most in this genre, and some readers may find the graphic details triggering.
If you're a fan of crime and murder mystery thrillers or are new to this author, I strongly suggest giving this book a read. It's an absolute must-read and I can't recommend it enough!
A chilling and disturbing read. When a young girl turns up in the emergency room in a state of panic and bleeding, claiming she has been raped, the doctor on duty Sara is transported back in time to her own ordeal. There are so many commonalities, and she promises to help. Alongside her fiancé Will Trent and his work partner, they follow the clues to the most astonishing and darkest of places. The truth is horrifying. The graphic details can be difficult to read, but this book is so well written.. #afterthatnight #netgalley #karenslaughter #thriller
Another incredible Will Trent story!
I was so excited to receive this ARC, after (impatiently) waiting for this title to come out. This is the perfect follow up to "The Silent Wife", and is a very Sarah-centric story. This book explores more of Sarah's past, her past relationships with her fellow medical school colleagues, and her assault. Concurrently, Will, Faith and Sarah focus on solving a handful of similar assaults that entangle Sarah and her past.
This book delivered everything I hoped for - Will and Faith banter, Amanda bossing everyone around, Will and Sarah sappiness and a storyline that kept me completely engaged and guessing. I absolutely loved everyone's character development, and how the overall story is progressing. My only complaint is that now I need to wait for book #12.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Harper Collins for this ARC!
The prologue of Karin Slaughter's latest book is sensational. I got to know Sara Linton's hard work. This woman is a medical examiner. One patient brought her to court. Why?
I also met Tommy McAllister, a medical student. Will he be able to send him to prison despite knowing him?
Faith Mitchell is another main character. She is a policewoman.
Wow, this is a very good thriller. I've been waiting for a book like this for a long time. Hooray for the author.
What happened to Sara 15 years ago?
I thought it would be a typical medical thriller, but nothing could be more wrong. I got a sensational psychological detective thriller. There is so much going on here that it's impossible to stop reading.
The plot is sensational. Added to this is action that never slows down. I really liked her phrases. At the end, I got such a shock that I still can't get over it.
I met both bad and good characters here. The bad ones made me vomit. Their behaviour was reprehensible. I would never want to meet such people.
You must read this story. It keeps you in suspense from the very beginning until the very end.
I enjoyed the challenging investigation. Will evil or good win this time, you will find out by reading "After that night".
The perfect story for all thriller lovers.
I read this e-book in one day.
I'm looking forward to another dark story from author Karin Slaughter.
I am a massive fan of Karin Slaughter. I was so excited to start this book!!
This is the eleventh instalment in the Will Trent series.
When a woman comes into the hospital and says she was raped, Sara is struck by the similarities of her own rape fifteen years ago.
This nail bitting book has Will, Faith, and Amanda investigating this sensitive case.
OMG Karin Slaughter you have done it again ..... another late night where I just couldn't put this book down and literally stopped breathing as the suspense had me gasping for breath.
This series just gets better and better.
I would have rated this 10 stars, but this still wouldn't have given this author its true justice.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.
Medical Examiner Sara Linton, soon-to-be-wife of Special Agent Will Trent – both employed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation – must relive her worst nightmare in attempting to fulfil the promise she made to a dying young woman in After That Night, a characteristically stark, shocking thriller from Karin Slaughter.
Three years ago, Nineteen-year-old Dani Cooper was brought, after a car crash, to the ER where Sara was working and succumbed to injuries that were not caused by the accident. Before dying, Dani had informed Sara that she had been sexually assaulted by someone, whom she wanted Sara to stop, but failed to name him. Lack of evidence meant the prime suspect – the son of a rich and influential surgeon – was not booked for the crime, but a civil suit filed by the girl’s parents is under trial now, where Sara is the principal witness. After testifying, Sara is caught alone with the suspect’s mother, who, in a drug-fuelled rant, tells her that whatever happened to Dani is connected to Sara's own rape fifteen years ago. The woman, along with her husband, was a colleague of Sara's from when she was an intern, and her outburst seems at first like the attempt of a wounded mother to hurt her son’s adversary, as Sara can't think of anything that could link the two crimes. Though the revelation could be pure rubbish, even the remotest possibility of it being true would have serious implications; but any probe into the matter solely based on the isolated statement of a hostile person is out of the question. Meanwhile, Will Trent and his partner, Faith Mitchell, are on a dull assignment and are more than willing to investigate the matter on the sly. The investigation, while forcing Sara to remember and talk about things that she had almost cast to oblivion, needs Will to reconnect with his own traumatic childhood, threatening to unhinge his sanity. As things heat up, horrendous secrets spanning many years come to light, and several lives – literally and figuratively – would be lost before it all ends.
Slaughter’s thrillers, based on what little I have read of those, have the maximum number of messed up characters on either side of the line separating the good and the evil, and this one is no different. Will, Sara, Faith, and the other regular characters, each with their own issues, are excellently developed over the course of this series, and meeting them again is pleasurable for the most part. The new characters – most of them not so likeable – too are adequately fleshed out. The plot moves at a fast clip, with Slaughter never reluctant to pile up the misery on her characters and despair on the readers as the pages turn. The interactions between Sara and Will, Will and Faith, and the trio and their fearsome boss, Amanda Wagner, are terrific. Slaughter brilliantly renders the plight and pain of rape victims and the psychology of the offenders in harrowing detail. The scenes where the lead characters engage with the suspects, and Will’s undercover act, are nerve-rackingly tense.
After That Night could perhaps be a bit too dark for certain readers, but it is a worthy addition to the gritty Will Trent series and would appeal to all strong-hearted thriller fans!
I would like to thank HarperCollins UK and NetGalley for providing me with a Digital Review Copy of After That Night in exchange for an honest review.
This is one of my favourite series and I am always excited when a new book comes out. I adore Will and Sara, and Faith and Amanda, and it’s always thrilling to see what they are up to next.
The books can be easily read as a stand-alone, but if you’ve read the previous novels, you already know that Dr. Sara Linton’s life dramatically changed fifteen years earlier when she was sexually assaulted. Her attacker was sent to prison, but now, following her testimony in a wrongful death case, her past is back to haunt her.
After That Night is not at all an easy story to read. There are scenes that were really hard to go through. They can be chilling, disturbing, and highly emotional, especially the descriptions of assault narrated from the victims’ perspectives. In particular, Sara’s account of her own assault, the trauma and the consequences on her life, how it affected her relationship with her family and friends, was candid and brave and it will stay with me for quite a while.
Will Trent and Sara Linton are one of my favourite couples in fiction and I love how close and honest their relationship is in this latest book. And Faith and Amanda are as amazing as ever. Faith’s worry about her son Jeremy wanting to join the forces is heartfelt and relatable, while Amanda proves, once again, that nothing goes past her and it is always best to get her involved.
Full of twists and turns, high tension, a shocking ending, and the author’s skilful and addictive writing, After That Night is another brilliant and thought-provoking novel by Karin Slaughter and I am already looking forward to the next one!
This was an interesting read and you can tell how much the characters have grown and their relationships have developed. They are so close now and so the story really works.
This is a harrowing read but fits in with all of Karin Slaughter's books.
So glad I read it.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
Superb thriller. Women are brutally attacked and a connection arises that leads Will Trent & Faith Mitchell to investigate. But that will involve breaking open a shadowy group and unearthing a connection to what happened to Sara Linton fifteen years before. Privilege and power usually stop these enquiries but they haven't come up against this pair before. Well paced and a real page turner with superb characters and subplots. Highly recommended
Great to read a Will Trent novel - it has been a long time.
Not an easy read (difficult subject matter) but happy to be in the minds of the characters again.
This was such a page turner.
A mystery/thriller that kept me guessing to the end.
Another excellent Karin Slaughter!
Absolutely loved this. Written brilliantly, fast paced and gripping.
The subjects with sensitively approached.
Would highly recommend even without having read the rest of the series.
At times this was a bit hard to read due to the content but another great book by Karin Slaughter.
Some readers may struggle with the content.
Many thanks to #NetGalley and #HarperCollins for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This is my first Karin Slaughter book and I went into it with high expectations because I have heard nothing but praises for her books. I'm glad to say that this book delivered a twist I didn't see coming!
[Please be aware of the trigger warnings because this book deals with an issue that's absolutely revolting]
After That Night is a fast paced thriller that keeps readers intrigued to know how the connection happens and what that connection would reveal. It has a sinister plot hidden in its narrative that will make you feel creeped out, but you can't stop reading it either because you NEED to know the answers. My only issue with the book was how sometimes, the writing made me cringe, especially the way women & their characteristics were described and the repeated mentioning of the abuse.
That twist near the end was surprising, but what I loved most was the ending itself! I can safely say I did not see that coming. I enjoyed reading this one!
