Joe is back and is as creepy and yet oddly compelling as ever. He's even more ranty than usual. And his one of his main targets in this book? Goodreads reviewers. Bless Caroline Kepnes for giving me the best belly laugh when I realised she'd taken target at us. But basically, it is more of the same. Joe's better than everyone else. He will NOT fall in love, falls in love with a girl with a stupid name (Wonder....Wonder FFS?), and vows to be better. Then continues to be a psycho and kills anyone he perceives to slighted his latest squeeze.
Is this as good as other books in the series? No. Is it too long? Yes. Is it an entertaining story with some laugh out loud moments? Most definitely, just ask my fellow bus passenger who was rather startled by my outbursts of inane giggling.
Funny, fast-paced, and as fresh as ever.
Joe Goldberg is an intriguing character that you love in books but hope you're never going to meet in real life.
This is not the best book in this serie but it's an entertaining and slow burning novel that I found entertaining.
I would have preferred some more action and some less thinking but the author is a good storyteller and kept my attention alive.
Wonder is a bit flat but I found her entertaining.
3.5 upped to 4
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
This book was the weakest in the series in my opinion. The love interest and side characters were not well developed, and I honestly hated all of them. I felt the plot was lacking in this one too. The only thing that got me through was the consistency with Joe’s internal monologues.
I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher, in return for an honest review. This review is based entirely on my own thoughts and feelings.

(for context I rated You ⭐️⭐️⭐️ & Hidden Bodies ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ & You Love Me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
I was yet again so excited when I saw that there was going to be another instalment, Im pretty sure I squealed when I got the approval email from Netgalley. And boy was I not disappointed. Joe was taken on a serious rollercoaster in this one, which was a very refreshing twist. How you like them eggs Joe? The characters in this were were great, however wonder is in the gang of characters I utterly hated, joining Beck, forty & Peaches. Maybe that’s why I’m always #TeamJoe, these side characters showing why he has to do what he has to do.
If you’ve come this far in the series then you won’t be disappointed. Unless you love the Netflix series which has for me gone off on a very weird tangent. Stick to the books people!!
"Praise is poison."
"For You and Only You" is the fourth book in the "You" series by Caroline Kepnes. I do not recommend starting with this book, because you will not understand the main character. You won't know what really shaped him. You'll never know why he's here. The main character, Joe Goldberg, is a complex person and very difficult to understand. He is a murderer. He has several people on his conscience. Will he take it easy this time and stop murdering?
Even though I love the whole series of "You" and the main character, there were parts in this part that bored me a bit. I don't know why it happened. Slowly, our Joe should leave our world. Unless the author comes up with some surprising transformation for him.
Will Goldberg fall in love again in "For you and only you"? Will he find his worthy half?
This time we meet our hero at Harvard. He loves books very much. He got a writing scholarship. Will he be pleased? Will he find soul mates? I believed that Joe could belong to a group of friends who share a common passion. Did it work out as usual? Is Goldberg a lone wolf, unable to live in a pack? I was very curious how he would cope in the new environment.
Who is Wonder? In my opinion, she is an unhappy woman. Like Joe, she loves literature. She thinks all men are greedy bastards. Will she think the same about our main character?
Joe will once again be in action. His demons, which have been silent for a while, will speak again. Be careful. Maybe our monster will hunt you.
I recommend the book "For you and only you" only to adults.
Remember - You should read the book first, and then you should watched the series on Netflix.
Well done, Caroline Kepnes. Way to go.
I leave you with my favourite quote from this book.
“All I'm trying to say is that I like to kill darlings more than I like to
write, so this is great."
Another fab book in the Joe Goldberg series. Another reinvention for Joe and another obsession. After the tv series, I can hear Joe’s narration throughout the book and I really enjoyed reading this. This is one of my favourite series of books and Caroline Kepnes writes a fantastic story. I hope there’s another book to come!
Another thrilling and sinister story from Caroline Kepnes. Very gripping and a good read continuing the story of Joe. Recommended.
Not as strong as earlier entries in the series, but enjoyable nonetheless. I liked the Boston setting; it was a perfect target for Joe's snarky commentary. I didn't really buy into his love interest, Wonder. She didn't really seem to warrant his obsessive interest in her. Nevertheless, I still love anti-hero Joe Goldberg.
Kepnes has done it again! What a great addition to the You series, she manages to keep the plots fresh and addicting as the first book which is incredibly impressive! I absolutely love her work and this was no different
Looked the first few books but feeling like it has run it's course. Writing is still enjoyable but think it's time to retire Joe!
I’ve loved this series from the beginning, and just when I thought I might have had my fill of Joe Goldberg, he reels me back in. I read this with a constantly elevated heart rate, knew Wonder was no good for our favourite serial killer, and TELL ME there has to be another book after that ending! I loved the other Fellowship characters with the Harvard setting, and the constant monologue of a deluded serial killer.
As a side note, while Goldberg is definitely one of the best fictional characters, unfortunately the tv show has lost me. Seasons 1 and 2 were great but since then I’ve not been eager to watch on. If it had stuck to the books it would have been much better!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review.
3.5 stars - rounded up cos, well, it's Joe!
This is an up and down series for me. Book one was a winner, book two not so much, book three regained my attention and, this one, well... I'm not sure it really, totally worked for me.
As I said, up and down!
So... another book, another reinvention of the man, the myth, who is Joe Goldberg. This time as a member of a prestigious writing fellowship. At Harvard nonetheless! No longer content with selling books, he wants in at the earlier stages - the writing of them! But the fellowship is full of high rolling college graduates - privileged and precocious - some already published. Leaving him feeling rather inferior - a feeling that when Joe feels it can only lead to trouble... This time in the form of Wonder, a fellow non-pretentious, non-graduating, "normal" person. And Joe's latest "soulmate"
What could possible go wrong...?
Well, if you have read the previous books, you might have an inkling! Obsession, stalking, murder, just the same old...
Joe is still the bad guy you can't help loving, and wish you didn't, but have to accept that you do. He has been stronger in books one and three for me for some reason. Weird. Maybe just me. But here in book four, it starts to get a bit repetitive, a bit on the samey side. The "been there" feeling...
I also found Wonder to not be as good a character as Joe's previous targets / victims / obsessions. A bit patchy and on the whole a bit insipid. Not the cup of tea I'm imagine for him...
And, having read other reviews, like others, I am not sure about that ending. Maybe book five will give more insight. Hope so... odd numbers rule this series for me, so... bring it on!
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Caroline Kepnes is back with another installment of Joe Goldberg, a serial killer who has earned a spot on one of the most coveted writing fellowships.
Joe is a bit of an outsider until Wonder enters the picture. Soon enough they realise they aren’t cut from the same bread as the others but try to make it evenly through and mix with them and their privileged lifestyle.
He is ready to sacrifice everything for Wonder, including killing for her, in the name of love. I can’t say that I liked Wonder as much as I had with his past relationships; there’s something about her that put me off right from the start but can’t really put my finger on.
Kepnes is a master of her craft and makes Joe pop of the page. He is a unique character, full of dark grace and humour, but also a softer heart. The razor sharp whit and black comedy makes the chapters come to life and makes readers come back for more each time.
While many parts of this new instalment haven’t been on my full liking due to vividly description of some scenes, it still made for an immersive experience and engaging story.
"You Love Me" is a solid addition to the Joe Goldberg saga, earning four out of five stars from me.
I really loved You Love Me and it was a real treat to read For You and Only You. What I particularly enjoy about these books is that they divert from the Netflix series, so you get even more of Joe, a whole different story, and the voice narrating in my head as I read is of Penn Badgley. With this novel, I wasn’t sure how to rate it. As Wonder claims, she likes to take some time between finishing a book and reviewing it. Having said that, Wonder was my least favourite of Joe’s “you’s”. I was kind of rooting for Joe to kill her in that final chapter because the audacity of hers, the narcissism, the blind conviction that her perception of the world is the only correct way to see it. On the other hand, the book has been written from Joe’s perspective and can you really rely on him this way? We’re in the mind of a serial killer after all. But you cannot help but to be in awe of how established Joe is as a character.
So even though struggled to get into the story at first, I’m glad to have finished it. I think it’s smart and a worthy addition to the series.
For You and Only You by Caroline Kepnes is a thrilling and disturbing novel that is now in part four. It explores the dangerous obsession of a stalker named Joe Goldberg. The story is narrated from Joe's perspective, which makes the reader feel uncomfortably close to his inner thoughts and twisted logic. It is impossible for me to not like a "YOU" book and it is absolutely impossible for me to NOT read this book in Penn Badgley's/Joe Goldberg's voice.
The author's writing style is unique and engaging, using second-person narration to create a sense of intimacy between the reader and Joe. Despite the disturbing subject matter, Kepnes manages to infuse the story with dark humour and wit, making it difficult to put down.
The book also explores themes of social media, privacy, and the dangers of online stalking. Kepnes does a great job of showing how easy it is to learn personal information about someone through social media, and how this information can be used to manipulate and control someone's life.
The E-Book could be improved and more user-friendly, such as links to the chapters, no significant gaps between words some text written has been typed in red and a cover for the book would be better. It is very document-like instead of a book. A star has been deducted because of this.
This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
The next instalment in the ‘you’ series follows Joe Goldberg as he takes his place in a highly elite writing fellowship at Harvard.
After reading all the previous novels I was thrilled to receive an advanced copy of this. Caroline Kepnes brings Joe’s trademark inner monologue to life once more and his stream of consciousness is as addictive as ever. Unfortunately I wasn’t so keen on the plot this time round, while the setting was great, I found the narrative a little repetitive and slow at times. I also felt that Joe’s ego about his book felt inconsistent, this doesn’t seem to be the Joe Goldberg of the previous novels.
I am however happy to have read this book and I am sure I will continue to pick up any new instalments.
Thank you to the author, Simon and Schuster UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this highly anticipated advanced copy.
I love the character that is Jo Goldberg. Whether in the show or in the books. He’s such a fascinating and intriguing character. Like the most recent season of the show based on these books, this most recent book instalment fell off a little for me. I still really enjoyed it, and Joe will always be I interesting to read about. Maybe it was the setting for me. But still very much enjoyable. And I will continue with this series to see how’s Joes story ends :)
Honestly, I’m wondering how the hell Joe is still getting away with it at this point, but I always love a new Caroline Kepnes. A bit of a diversion from the previous books, this latest offering takes us into the world of publishing via Harvard. Very readable, though I found some plot points a bit of a reach. If you liked the previous books, I’d definitely recommend.
I usually love these books but this one seemed to drag a lot. None of the characters were really likable especially Wonder and Sly and Joe also got a bit on my nerves this time too. His incessant stream of conscious was too much this time around and it was often a struggle to read through. The overall plot was intriguing with the fellowship consisting of an interesting group of writers that added a bit of excitement to the novel but I just didn't enjoy it as much as I did the previous 3.
I absolutely love the You/Joe Goldberg series! I started reading it after season one came out on Netflix and immediately loved how the books are written and how complicated the character of Joe is. In the first three books the stalker thing was always here but didn't bother me because it was always different in a way and the feminine character was also different and it was great. However in this book, I hated the female character, she's so unlikable in my opinion and it was so frustrating for me to read, Joe is still the same and I like him for it but I felt like he was overshadowed by her and it upset me. I like the vibes of Harvard and it was too in the last season so it was really enjoyable, the little similarities between this book and the last season made me quite happy. Overall it was great but definitely my LEAST favourite book of the saga sadly
