Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
Oh Badger. He is such a sweet and loveable character. Today, Badger is snacking on blueberries when he finds a raspberry. And another badger... eating the raspberries. In some ways he almost seems to have found love at first sight when he meets this other berry-loving badger. But also, maybe it's actually the berries that he loves? It is a cute story with lots of opportunities to examine the illustrations as you interpret the story. I love this series and could definitely see these books in my grade 3 classroom library. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!
This is the third blue badger book. In the second blue badger, but badger ate all the berries and may have possibly ate the dogs ball. In this book badger meets another badger and they get a little funny feeling in their stomach. The badger who likes the red berries is not only very fond of berries but is very complementary to blue badger. Blue badger must seek out advice from his friend owl and makes a wonderful new companion to red badger. However, they both need to be reminded to not eat all the berries. Just like the first book this is adorable. I love both the badgers and the compliments, and it just makes you all warm and fuzzy, which is what the book was hoping for. So it works and I can’t wait to read the badgers next adventure.
My kids and I thought this was super cute. They are berry fiends too. We really liked the illustration style and the story was cute.
It has a good rereadble factor and makes for a great bedtime story choice.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC
I am writing this review with my seven year old daughter.
The illustrations in this book are absolutely beautiful.
However, the story is...bizarre. My daughter did not understand it at all and it left her with a quizzical, unimpressed look. As an adult, I understood the message, but as these books are aimed at children, the message is entirely lost.
Obviously this is fine for a much younger demographic, when your child is only looking at the pretty pictures, and you as an adult get to enjoy an amusing story for once. However, once your child actually understands the content of the book, you're just left with a whole lot of questions you need to answer, and this book is so nebulous that it really wasn't even possible.
Lovely illustrations, but I really can't recommend it.
My daughter gave it one star, but I'm bumping it up to two as the illustrations are so lovely.
The book itself with the story of the badger uncertain of his feelings did not convince me to discuss it with a child or to present this feeling sure that it might be a favourite. I liked the contrast of colours and the images but the Owl characters and his advices are just ...thrown out there. I am a little disappointed of the text, the images however deserve better.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Blue Badger and the Beautiful Berry is a cute illustrated children's picture book about Blue Badger who is enjoying his nightly fill of berries when another badger appears. Blue Badger is a little confused by his feelings. He isn't sure if he likes this other badger enough to share with her, and he's a little overcome with how he feels after meeting her. I wasn't sure about this book and feel the meaning is more for an older child when the book seems aimed at a younger child with it being a short picture book. This is the first book in the series I've read, and maybe if I read the others, I would feel differently? I'm still not sure though.
Beautiful images. Loved the idea. Couldn’t tell if there was deeper messaging but either way it was still enjoyable.
A badger who loves berries, encounters another badger who loves berries. This is a cute and simple little story. I'm not. gonna lie, I picked this up because my dog's name is Badger and I keep a bookshelf going for him. This one will definitely make the list.
Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.
For me this book was a bit of a swing and miss. Maybe it would make more sense if I had read the two previous Blue Badger books?
I did not find Owl's advice helpful; Owl just seemed to tell Badger a bunch of saying about love and friendship without providing any real guidance.
I did love the illustrations. I like the high contrast between the berry colors and the muted white and black of the badgers.
This is such a cute story! I love this meet cute for kids, and I actually also love that love isn't explained in simple terms in the book because love isn't always that simple or understandable. A great series continuation.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I love these Blue Badger books, and this one is a tremendous new delight to the collection.
A beautiful, simple story about trusting oneself to enjoy life and make new friends. Owl shares an important message of enjoying sharing time with others without thinking too much about it. Could start discussion about things we share with friends and the awkwardness we sometimes experience making new connections.
This is absolutely one o my favorite children's book series out there right now, and this new one is a great addition to the ongoing story of Blue Badger.
Blue Badger [who loves his berries] has found the perfect, most beautiful berry, but what comes with it is a complete surprise, one he's not sure sure how to deal with.
Told in a simple way with gorgeous illustrations, this is a lovely story about love and the unexpected places it can be found.
Kids [and parent/caregivers alike] will love this book and its simple story of love and caring and sharing and I am sure they will revisit this book over and over again.
Thank you to NetGalley, Huw Lewis-Jones, Ben Sanders - Illustrator, and Quarto Publishing Group/Frances Lincoln Children's Books/Happy Yak for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a quirky and fun read about finding love and friendship with someone who might not always share the same interests or opinions on things. I feel that perhaps the lesson may be too big a concept for little minds, but it certainly paves the way in prompting a conversation. This art style was bold and different - it almost reminds me of when I was a kid, and we'd do sponge art! Super funny and creative.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC. The opinions are strictly my own.
Such an adorable book about love and berries. It's perfect for valentine's day and really any day.mi also respect the love of berries.
This was a very simple book about a badger who loves berries. one day he meets another badger who also loves berries, but a different kind. He isn't sure if he should like the new badger or not so he asks wise owl. Owl gives him advice about love and friendship. While the illustrations were adorable and the meaning behind the book important, I didn't love this book. It's a great teaching point, but just not a favorite book.
I love the illustrations! This was a cute story . “You can’t blame gravity for falling in love.”
Don’t eat all the berries! -relatable-
What? What did I just read? Lol!
The weirdest, yet the quirkiest book ever!
The storyline felt a bit too short, too shallow, and with really not much going on. It is going to take so much explaining for this to make sense for any kid, I’m afraid. Although that is not a bad thing, a great conversation starter is always a good thing, right? I am sure this could be turned into a conversation about friendship and values in general, even if it comes from something as weird as discussing if food is more important than having a friend.
The drawings are lovely, big, bold, and colorful.
Hahah, aww, this little tale is just super cute and wholesome and berry-filled. The art is absolutely stunning and I adored the badgers being all awkward and sweet and uncertain with each other. Definitely worth checking out!
