Yet another book by Harlan Coben that proves he’s is a master crime writer. David is found guilty of murdering his son but then a photo comes to light five years into his prison sentence, it’s a photo taken at a theme park with a boy who has the same identifiable facial mark as his son had. If his son is alive David needs to find him and so the fast paced story begins.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat with numerous twists and turns and a few red herrings thrown in along the way. A brilliantly written book that is sure to be a best seller
Wow what an explosive read from Harlan Coben, just what you would expect from one of his books.
So many twists and turns at every level. David is in jail for an u speakable crime he has been convicted of killing his own son. He dosnt receive visitors but then one day that all change’s when his sister in law brings hi, a photo showing his dead son 4 years later.
This story evolves with David on the run trying to find his son and prove his Innocence.
This plot has so many twists and turns I keeps you guessing.
Expertly written and this book was devoured in one sitting! So make sure ti find the time to sit and enjoy because once you start this it’s a hard one to out down.
The plot is a bit out there, but it's still a good read and extremely pacy. Any fans of Harlan Coben will not be disappointed, I don't think.
Here's a confession: I have never read a Harlan Coben novel before, which for a lover of thrillers and whodunnits is rather a huge oversight.. I've seen what Netflix has done with them, however, so as soon as I was offered the option to read and review this, I was in.
So - did it live up to the hype? Yes, in a nutshell, The characters are defined just well enough to have you engaged with each one, but not in great and overwhelming depth. The storyline is fast-moving, filled with ifs, but, maybes and the sort of twists you really hope for, and the ending is all neatly wrapped up in a big red bow, perfectly presented to meet all hopes and expectations.
Not having read Coben before, I can't comment on whether this matches up to previous work. I can see however he has a clear fascination with human nature; what makes us tick, what makes us break, what we will do to protect the ones we love and how far we're prepared to go to do it. It is love that sits at the centre of this novel, in all its forms - possessive, parental, romantic, of power, of the law. And, in the end, love does conquer all.
I am giving this four stars because the only aspect lacking for me was a little more tension.
The master hasn’t lost his touch. A bizarre scenario and a story that unfolds layer by layer.
In prison for apparently killing his son, David Burroughs finds his son may still be alive and in order to investigate he first needs to escape from prison…..
Some great characters and some minor links to characters from the author’s other books. The relationship between two FBI agents was very entertaining and I hope we see them again in future books.
Hard to give details without spoiling the surprises but this is classic Harlan Coben, how he gives himself challenging scenarios and then delivers a twisting and satisfying result that rewards your engagement.
It’s a good ‘un.
I always seem to enjoy Harlan Coben's thrillers, and the blurb of his newest story I Will Find You sounded particularly enticing. I mean, have you seen it?! The whole innocent father being imprisoned for the murder of his son, the prison escape, the hunt for the truth... It sounded like the perfect recipe for an action slash crime thriller, and I've been looking forward to read it. And what an exhilarating ride it turned out to be! If you like your thrillers lightning-fast and action-packed, I Will Find You will more than deliver.
The premise of this story is absolutely fascinating, and I do always love a thriller with a prison angle. I Will Find You isn't just about an innocent man trapped in prison though; this story is about so much more. I did love the chapters set in prison, and especially those featuring how David managed to escape against all odds. This is probably where the real exhilarating part of the plot started, although there were already some quite intense scenes inside the prison as well. The whole man hunt and David trying to evade both the police and FBI added a sense of urgency and danger to it all, and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
The mystery around the supposed death of David's son Matthew, the boy in the photo looking just like Matthew and the hunt for the truth were absolutely intriguing. It's true that things can be said about the credibility of certain plot twists and especially the final reveals are quite over the top, but I personally didn't mind too much. Why? This is one of those story where what really counts is the entertainment factor, and I Will Find You most definitely delivered on that count. It felt like I was in the middle of a Hollywood action movie the whole time, and this can work both ways... But in this case, it was a success for me.
My main (and probably only) issue with I Will Find You lies with FBI agents Max and Sarah and the way they behaved. Their dialogues were simply cringeworthy and it felt like they were trying too hard to be a comedy duo instead of a pair of FBI agents taking things seriously. They just didn't fit the tone of the rest of the book, and they kind of put a damper on things for me. I would probably have given this story 5 stars otherwise! Max did redeem himself a little in the final part, but as a whole their characters and dialogue were a total miss for me.
I did like most of the rest of the cast. The main focus is on David and his ex sister-in-law Rachel, and I enjoyed spending time with them. It was interesting to see both characters develop and see them trying to overcome obstacle after obstacle... The hunt for the truth about Matthew was fascinating, and I kept turning page after page to find out what really happened that night. True, some of the plot twists were a bit too over the top and quite far-fetched, but like I said before, I personally didn't mind too much. It made for a very entertaining couple of hours reading, that's for sure!
As a whole, I Will Find You turned out to be another gripping, action-packed and simply excellent crime thriller that will take you on a true rollercoaster ride. If you don't mind things getting a bit too far-fetched and over the top and like your thrillers on the fast and exhilarating side, this is the book for you!
I Will Find You is another pacy, engaging thriller from Harlan Coben.
David Burroughs is incarcerated after being found guilty of his 3-year old son’s violent death.
Five years later a photo of a young boy has been taken and it appears that David’s son might still be alive. A plan is made to spring David from prison so he can establish his innocence and find his boy.
I read this book over a couple of evenings, I couldn’t put it down. Highly recommended!
This is a well told story that gripped your attention. The plot was not obvious, there were a few red herrings thrown in and the violent psychopathic killer did not make an immediate appearance and so was more difficult to spot. There was some nice characterisation and the main hero was not a superhero in disguise, but just normal. I have not read enough of Harlan Coben to judge whether this was formulaic but having written 26 books of this type I am surprised at how fresh this feels. I think one of the hardest jobs in writing successive books is retaining your originality. This is not a genre I often review, but I have read a few crime thrillers before and this did everything that I look for to make this a satisfying read.
You can always rely on Harlan Coben to give you a great story and this is no exception! David is serving a prison sentence for the brutal murder of his 3 year old son, Matthew. He says he is innocent. 5 years in prison and he gets a surprise visit from his sister in law, Rachel. She brings a photo taken by a friend at a theme park and in the background is a boy she believes is Matthew. David knows that if there is the slightest chance Matthew is still alive then he must do whatever he can to escape from prison and find him. This is a real page turner which will keep you guessing to the end. Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.
Copied to Goodreads.
I did enjoy this book it was a very pleasant read. I really wanted to find out what was going to happen. Yes, you do have to suspend belief with some of the plot . I can see this being yet another streaming movie like others by this author.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
David Baskin is in prison for murdering his 3 year old son. He’s refused to have any visitors for 5 years but he’s not updated his wishes when he’s told he has a visitor, his ex sister-in-law, Cheryl. . She shows him a picture of a young boy on a day out at a theme park. She thinks he looks just like her nephew as he has a port wine stain on his face the same as Matthew had.
Slowly the more David tries to remember what happened on the awful night he killed his son he realises that maybe he hadn’t committed the murder and that Matthew is in fact alive.
I really enjoyed this book and it kept me wanting to read so I could find out what happened next. Harlan Coben is a great writer and I can see it won’t be long before this is made into another series. I am so pleased to have had the enjoyment of reading the book before this happens!!
I love all of Harlem Coben’s books and this didn’t disappoint. An exciting thriller that gets you rooting for David, imprisoned for the murder of his 3 year old son, but about to try and convince us of his innocence. Lots of twists and turns that leaves you questioning the truth!
.
Although I have watched Harlan Coben Mini Series I have not read any of his books. Thanks to Net Galley for letting me read my first. I can wholeheartedly say that I Will Find You is a definite five star read. Lots of twists and gripping edge plots.
A standalone thriller from author Harlan Coben. I have struggled with a couple of this author’s recent books but this one for me was back to the
Life is wonderful for David and Cheryl Burroughs until their world is shattered by tragedy. David is convicted of murdering his three year old son Matthew and is now serving time in a maximum security prison.
Cheryl has now remarried and living her new life while David serves his sentence. David gets an unexpected visit from Cheryl’s sister, Rachel who stuns him with a surprising revelation. She shows him a photograph one of her friends took while on holiday at a theme park. There is a boy in the background of the photograph with the same distinctive birthmark of his son. David struggles to believe what his eyes see, that is son Matthew is still alive.
David feels that he can only solve this mystery if he can escape from prison. But he faces an uphill challenge to first escape and then to find his son and clear his own name. What really happened on the night that shattered his life.
This is an exciting read that is Harlan Coben at his best, fast paced plot, good interesting characters served up with a touch of humour. Yes there are times where the story pushes the boundaries of belief but it makes great reading.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Random House UK for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
David is in prison for killing his son, everyone is sure he did it except him. He doesn't remember but the evidence is overwhelming. He accepts his punishment until his sister in law pays him a visit, his first visitor in 5 years.
I enjoyed the story but there were lots of times where I had to suspend my disbelief and just go along with it. Despite this it was entertaining and kept me interested until the end. I will definitely read more Harlan Coben books as I am a fan of his writing and have read lots of his previous novels.
Thank you to Netgalley and Cornerstone for the ARC.
I Will Find You by Harlan Coben
Another brilliant read by the master storyteller that is Harlan Coben.
David wakes up to find himself covered in blood , his young son is dead and he is being blamed for it.
Fast forward and now in prison he is visited by his ex sister in law who has a photo to show him , his now older son.
We are taken on a rollercoaster ride that has many twists and turns as our protagonist is determined to find out the truth and to clear his name.
An edge of your seat story that we have come to expect from the author .
An easy 5 stars .
Compelling and page-turning but not the best Harlan Coben I have read. David has been convicted of the murder of his three-year old son and is serving his sentence when evidence comes to light that this son, who had a distinctive birthmark, might be still alive. There were too many unconvincing plot holes and coincidences in the story for my liking, such as the prison governor conveniently being David’s godfather, the decision not to use DNA to identify the child’s body from the start and the child’s distinctive birthmark. I found several of the characters annoying and unlikeable, such as the FBI double act and some of the fringe criminal gang members manipulating things behind the scenes. It feels like Coben is getting lazy with the formula that has worked so well for him in the past.
With thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an advance copy.
Another engaging mystery thriller by this author - very good indeed.
David is serving a life sentence for killing his son when his whole world is turned upside down as his son might still be alive. This leads to a rollercoaster ride as he tries to find out the truth involving relatives, friends, the FBI and criminals alike. It's a quick and easy read with interesting well-drawn characters and a fast-moving plot. Harlan Coben's novels are always a treat and this is no exception. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
thank you to Netgalley for the loan of this book.
I absolutely loved this book. I dont know how Harlan continues to smash his stories out of the park, time and time again. His previous book, Win, was brilliant and hard to beat, but he's done it again with I Will Find You, I literally read it in 2 sittings, I couldn't put it down.
A young man in prison for supposedly killing his son, has given up on life, until his sister in law visits him with a photo of what appears to be said son. Suddenly he has a reason to live and strives to escape, but unbeknownst to him there are people who would kill to prevent that happening. I wont say anything further about the plot as I want the reader to be as surprised and intrigued as I was. Suffice to say this book has it all and I would recommend it in a heartbeat. One of the best books i've ever read. Buy it, you wont be disappointed.
A compulsive read with echoes of The Fugitive as a man on the run tries to prove his innocence.
Action packed and thrilling, this is a right blockbuster of a book.
