I Will Find You is a phenomenal thriller from start to finish. Filled to the brim with twists and a captivating plot, this one is sure to keep readers hooked. The characters are well-developed. I absolutely love Harlan Coben as an author and was thrilled to read his latest book - I Will Find You.
Although I enjoyed this book I felt there wasn’t enough action and suspense for me. It was a decent read and I’m sure make an excellent Netflix series in time. But i have come to expect for suspense and scares from this author’s books.
The main protagonist, David Burroughs, is in prison having been convicted of the brutal murder of his toddler son during a blackout. Although David cannot remember killing his son, he cannot prove that he hasn’t. So when his sister in law arrives with a photo of a boy who has the same distinctive birth mark on his face like his son, it gives him hope! He is assisted to break out of prison and a game of cat and mouse commences for David to find his son and prove his innocence.
I would recommend the book, especially if you have not read any other Harlan Coben books as it’s one of his more gentler books.
Thank you to Netgalley and ARC publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this fantastic author’s latest release.
#IWillFindYou #NetGalley This was a bit of a difficult one for me as I usually love Harlan Coben novels. This one was full of the action and intrigue that I have come to expect but I did feel that some of the storylines were a bit unrealistic - would they really put a convicted child killer in a prison where his godfather is the warden?? Would that warden and his son help to break him out of prison without really thinking it through?? I also found the FBI double act characters a bit grating although I did warm to them more in the end! If you accept that this is a bit more fantasy than this authors normal style then you will enjoy the fast paced action and twists and turns. On this premise I did enjoy it but not as much as previous books.
David and Cheryl Burroughs were living the dream life when tragedy struck. Now, five years after that terrible night, Cheryl is remarried. And David is serving a life sentence in a maximum-security prison for the brutal murder of their son.
Then Cheryl’s sister, Rachel, arrives unexpectedly during visiting hours and drops a bombshell. She’s come with a photograph that a friend took on vacation at a theme park with a boy in the background who has a familiar, distinctive birthmark … and even though David and Rachel realize it can’t be, they both just know. It's David’s son, Matthew, and he's still alive.
David plans a harrowing escape from prison, determined to do what seems impossible–save his son, clear his own name, and discover the real story of what happened that devastating night
I read this a little while ago and forgot to write my review. I gave it three stars in my review which is odd as I remember being gripped by the story. I think mainly the two stars were knocked if because there were just too many leaps in the narrative. So completely forget reality and just go with the flow.
Thank you to Penguin and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my review. This was a slow burner of a read for me (hence this late review) but I enjoyed every moment of it. Some books hit a high but then crash and burn with a weak ending. This book ticked all the boxes and will make for an excellent TV or movie adapation. I highly recommend this book. I thought every aspect was well planned and cleverly plotted. 4.5 stars.
A solidly reliable Harlan Coben read- David has been falsely jailed for murdering his young son. He doesnt fight the conviction because he feels he let his son down, even if he didnt commit the crime himself. One day his sister in law brings him evidence that his son is still alive- and suddenly the stakes are higher as David tries to investigate what might have happened, and who has his son now.
With some handy family connections in the prison, he manages to escape and begin his search for the truth.
Its fast paced and well plotted, with some tense moments that leave you wondering what will happen next. Fans of his previous work will definitely be in for a treat
This was really surprising from an author such as Harlen Coben. This was so slow to the point of painful and boring. It has a very weak plot, characters that lack shade or distinctive elements. I really struggled and only finished as I felt committed to a review. They all cannot be five stars right?
Nothing had really happened by 40% even and some of the plot was just unrealistic to an extreme degree. This read like a first novel from a tentative new author not a world bestselling novelist so I was shocked. I have another of his books to read and review so hopeful it’s better. This is an honest 1 star from me.
Having read and enjoyed some of Harlan Coben's books previously I was delighted to have the opportunity to read an ARC of I will Find you. Thank you to NetGalley.
This book didn't disappoint in terms of pace and intrigue. At the beginning of the book, the main protagonist, David Burroughs, is languishing in prison, convicted of the brutal murder of his toddler son. Whilst maintaining his innocence, there looks to be no prospect of his release, and no future for David. Then his sister in law arrives with a photo of a boy who, looks incredibly like his son - so it's five years later and its hard to know for sure, but his birth mark on his face is very distinctive.
There's a bit of a feeling of unreality in what happens very shortly after- The prison governor happens to be David's godfather, and in cahoots with his police officer son (David's best friend) the governor lets David escape. David and his sister in law set out on a mission to find his son and show he is not a murderer. All incredibly cleverly planned, but plausible? I didn't always find it to be so. The ending didn't entirely ring true for me either - would David really get away scot free after escaping prison, injuring a police officer ...?
Overall a solid 4* - marked down only because there was a bit of a feeling of unreality at certain points
David Burroughs is in prison for murdering his son Matthew. He has always denied this from the start but he was sentenced and spending his days in prison dealing with the fact that he did not know where his son was but convinced the boy in his son’s bed that night was not his son. He is languishing in prison when out of the blue after 5 years his sister in law visits. It is more of a shock as he had refused visitors from the start. However, she was there, he saw Rachel and then his world turned upside down. Rachel brought with her a photograph which was taken by a friend at a fair and was convinced the child in the background of the photo was Matthew. This started a whole sequence of events and it was a roller coaster of a read. The story brings in Max and his partner, Sarah, FBI agents as David, with the help of the Governor, escapes from prison as he has an absolute need to follow up on Rachel’s theory. As I have said it is a fast paced book which keeps you interested. The only odd thing I felt was that a friend of Rachel’s, Heather Crimstein, an attorney helped the couple along the way with get away cars etc. Would she have torched her career if caught. Maybe and it added to the sense of a good book so I can accept this. I really enjoyed the characters particularly Max but I felt all the main characters were interesting in their own way. Do I think this would make a good series for the TV – yes I do. Great book
Another brilliant read from Harlan Coben who is one of my favourite authors. He knows how to spin a good story. Fast paced and twisty from the get-go. Some aspects a little unbelievable but you just go with it when it’s one of Coben’s reads, you know it’s going to be a goodie. It’s definitely a fast paced ride from starts to finish. One fathers journey to find his son a clear his name.
4/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thanks to Netgalley and Random House UK for the opportunity to review #IWillFindYou
I Will Find You by Harlan Coben is a fascinating story of a father convicted of his son’s murder, when he supposedly killed him with a cricket bat. Five years into his sentence, his former sister in law visits him in prison and shows him a photograph of his now 8 year old son, Matthew at a fun fair.
David and Rachel then try to solve the mystery of who has Matthew now and why? His former wife, Cheryl's now married to Ronald and expecting his child. David with the help of his friends manages to escape prison and tracks down former witnesses and both David and Rachel try to find out what has happened to Matthew, whilst all the time being tracked by the FBI and the police.
A fascinating story with strong characters and a satisfying conclusion.
Highly recommended
Firstly, I would like to thank Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book. Harlan Coben is one of my favourite authors and I was delighted to be approved to read this.
The story of David, who is in jail for murdering his son. He’s not sure that he did it but as his son is dead anyway he doesn’t feel any need to try and find out. That is until after several years his ex wife’s sides visits him in jail. She thinks she has proof that perhaps the boy isn’t dead after all and the book tells the story of their trying to find out if this is the case.
An exciting read and difficult to put down. Very enjoyable.
Harlan Coben is known by many, for his twisty, action thrillers and this one lives up to that promise too!
I found it to be both dark and mysterious, a real puzzler! A really fast pace along with an urgency, from start to finish.
David Burroughs character was very well-portrayed, showing readers the desperation and bleakness of prison life. The story is told from his point of view, so you really share the highs and lows alongside him. I also really took to Rachel, his sister-in-law, who, despite what she has personally been through, plays a full part in this.
Knowing who to trust is always like walking on a knife edge, this will constantly have you balancing precariously.
If you like an action packed story, adrenaline fuelled, twisty but satisfying, then this is it, hold on tight, it’s a roller coaster!
Another fantastic novel by Harlan Coben. Great characters and plot and I especially loved the dialogue between Max and Sarah. It was such a well paced novel with twists that were surprising and unpredictable. A brilliant and enjoyable few hours of reading.
Whilst this is a fast paced and decent enough entertaining read, it is completely over the top, so you will need to suspend reality and let it just glide over you to enjoy it.
David is man convicted & imprisoned for murdering his son. After his sister in-law sees a photo of the child still alive, David considers he needs to escape, prison, go on the run and unpick the ruse behind what he thinks is the abduction of his son.
There is more layering, interesting relationships and family dynamics along the way. To be fair the characters are generally likeable, some a bit cheesy. The prison experience and violence has a credible feel, but the escapades and chances of determining all this are an entertaining stretch. As such the tension isn’t quite there and the plot once into it is heavily predictable, but enough twists and drama to keep you sufficiently entertained.
I am sure Harlan fans will still enjoy this, but for me not one of his better efforts, and might put me off his next books for a while – albeit I am sure I’ll be lured back.
A thrilling read and keeps the reader on their toes. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
The writing style of Coben is always engaging and I never find myself struggling to 'get into' one of his books. This one was no exception as right from the start I was drawn in.
The premise was good, not much in the way of character building but we learn enough to know that our main character is one we can trust. As always, some of the reveals felt a little crazy, but I should know by now that this is what I should expect!
David is serving a life sentence for the brutal murder of his son, Matthew - a murder he says he didn’t commit. When his sister-in-law sees a photo of Matthew, now aged 8, she visits David in prison to share that news. David decides his only course of action is to break out of prison to find his son and discover the truth.
There are lots of twists and turns in this story which kept me interested throughout. It’s a real page turner. However having your godfather and old friend of the family as the prison warden was just too convenient for me, which is why I’ve given it 4 stars instead of 5.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good thriller!!
Absolutely loved the characters, the plot, the tension - impossible to put it down.
Certainly recommended!
