Harlan Coben writes good books, and I will find you does not let me down
I really enjoyed reading this, I even sneaked a few pages while I was in between meetings at work!
I do love a Harlan Coben book and I Will Find You is no different at all.
You need to realise that some of the things that happen in this book are ridiculously unlikely but that doesn't stop this from being really enjoyable and I read it in a matter of hours.
David, the main character is likeable enough as are most of the other characters although I could have happily spent the rest of my lift slapping the FBI agents. That's how annoying and absurd they were.
I'm a huge fan of Harlan Coben because his books never disappoint! The story always flows and entertains you from the beginning to the end and this book was no exception!
David Burroughs is in prison for killing his three-year-old son. It has been 5 years and he's trying to stay under the radar. He has not allowed anyone to come and visit him, his wife has divorced him and his father is dying.
Then out of the blue, his ex-wife's sister Rachel pitches up at the prison and shows him a picture. In the background of the picture is an image of a boy with the same birthmark as his son Matthew but the boy in the picture is about 8 years old. His world is in turmoil.
Who is the boy in the picture? He is convinced it is his son so this means it was not his son who was killed. Who was the boy who was killed and what happened to his son?
He's got to find out what happened and the only way he can do this is if he is on the outside but escaping is nearly impossible. With the help of the prison warden, who is also a friend of his father, he manages a risky escape, and together with Rachel they try to get to the bottom of the story. With the FBI hunting him will he be able to find out the truth before it's too late?
I love the mentions of characters from his other books and avid Corben fans will know them well.
A brilliant read that will make an awesome movie!

I Will Find You has a fairly uncomfortable start, as we meet David who is in prison for murdering his three year old son Matthew. But did David really do it, or did he just not defend himself in court?
So far, so morbid. But then the first big twist hits you. David's sister-in-law visits him, for the first time in five yeas, and brings with her a photo that will turn David's world upside down. Could that really be David's son Matthew in the photo, alive and well?
David and sister-in-law Rachel embark on a whirlwind chase to find the truth, including a prison break, madcap car chase and meeting a whole host of unsavoury characters. Can David find answers before the cops find him?
I Will Find You is an excellent read, in true Harlan Coben style, and you can imagine the action playing out beautifully on screen.
Another exceptional book by the master of suspense, Harlan Coben.
After serving 5 years in jail for murdering his son, Matthew has a visit from his ex sister in law, bringing a photograph, taken recently, of his supposedly dead son.
After breaking out of prison he goes on the run to right some wrongs and discovers webs of lies that helped put him away and cover up the truth.
Excellent writing, gripping reading and some great plot twists. Highly recommended and a definite candidate for a tv adaptation.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Harlan Coben has been a prolific writer over the years but shows not signs of slowing down, or running out of daredevil plot lines that defy even the wildest imaginations. In this fairly short thriller, he introduces us to prisoner David Burroughs who is serving a sentence for the murder of his three year-old son Matthew but is suffering from some amnesia where the finer details of this horrific event are concerned. A coincidental glance at a photo of a young boy in an amusement park cements Davidโs belief that Matthew is still alive, and that he must escape from prison to find him.
Davidโs journey outside of prison, and some of the ancillary characters, are highly improbable, but who cares when a storyteller as skilled as Coben weaves them into such a breath-taking tale? I found I could not turn the pages fast enough to find out what happened next. Thank you to the publishers and to NetGalley for the free ARC of this truly riveting thriller from one of the big names in this genre. It allowed me to produce this honest and unbiased book review.
As with many of Harlan Coben books, the story can be a little far-fetched but he always tells it well. The story is fast paced and David is well portrayed and a likeable character. He is considered the low of the low, as a child killer, in the prison itself by prisoners and guards alike. He is pitied by his family.
I was not convinced or keen on the FBI characters, Max and Sarah. Their double act grated and did not contribute to the story.
Many thanks to Netgalley/Harlan Coben/Random House UK for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.
Fantastic and fast paced, I Will Find You is everything you would expect from Harlen Coben. I loved everything about it and I highly recommend it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.
I Will Find You is another fantastic story by Harlan Coben.
David Burroughs is serving a prison sentence for brutally killing his three year old son Matthew. Five years into his sentence David's sister-in-law Rachel visits him with a photograph taken recently of a boy who looks very much like her murdered nephew. From that point on the twists and turns begin. I Will Find You is a fast paced, rollercoaster of a story that does not disappoint. I devoured the pages and just could not put it down. Absolutely fantastic and I highly recommend it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for my ARC.
David as been in prison for 5yr for murdering his 5yr old son, he vows he didn`t do it but his memory loss means he can`t remember what happened.
When his ex sister in law Rachel visits the prison to tell him her friend has a picture with his son in the background, and David believes her so plans his escape from prison to find out the truth.
Keeps you riveted, definitely a page turner.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC

๐ Happy Pub Day ๐ฅณ I WILL FIND YOU// Harlan Coben ๐๐๐๐
The book centres around David Burroughs, a man who is 5 years into a life sentence for the brutal murder of his young son. But what if he didnโt do it? What if his child is still alive? ๐
Honestly, I WILL FIND YOU, didnโt disappoint. I think the *slightly* over the top plot just made for such a thrilling ride. I was gripped throughout the action packed story - it kept me guessing and on edge until the very end! ๐ซข
If youโre a Harlan Coben, Lisa Jewell, Wendy Walker fan, THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!
๐ญ Are you a Coben fan? Is this one on your TBR? ๐
Harlan Coben has an excellent track record writing best sellers, so really it is almost superfluous to say how thrilling his books are, with dramatic twists and turns throughout. I've read several of his stand-alone novels and this is another star performance. I should say I have liked some of his books more than others - specifically: I'm personally less keen on his basketball themed series since I find that subject a bit esoteric (much I suspect as the Americans in general regard cricket). However, I really enjoyed this book; I found it pacy an hard to put down (...and no basketball in sight).
It's possibly worth warning that the plot is written from the point of view a man jailed for the violent murder of his own child some years before. The man is mentally too numb to protest his innocence, and so traumatised by the situation that he has accepted his prison sentence with a burden of guilt for not being able to protect his son. But then he is shown a photograph... which changes everything...
The mystery part of the plot is skillfully executed, allowing the reader to piece together the solution -possibly slightly ahead of the protagonist - at the pace the author intends. Additionally, if, like me, you enjoy a well-rounded ending - I would say happy ending but that's always less easy with this underlying subject matter - then you will be well-satisfied here.
If this is your first Coben thriller, then it's a great place to start - and if not, you'll find it well up to his excellent standard.
David Burroughsโ life is basically over. Languishing in jail, five years into his life sentence for killing his son. In a fit of rage, he brutally beat his son, Matthew, to death. The evidence was overwhelming โ David was covered in his sonโs blood, he was seen burying the murder weapon. Only one person believes that David didnโt kill his own son โ unfortunately that person is David himself. And even heโs not always one hundred per cent sureโฆ
Until his first visitor at the prison in years arrives โ his sister-in-law. She has a photograph to show David, a photograph taken at a theme park and in the background of the picture is an impossible boy โ Matthew, or a very convincing lookalike. David is determined to find the truth โ he just has the slight problem of being locked in a high-security prison with inmates and guards who seem especially determined that he doesnโt get outโฆ
Look, itโs the latest Harlan Coben, of course itโs good.
Oh, you want more detail? OK, I suppose soโฆ
Itโs a thriller with some twists and turns, although I donโt think itโs got that killer twist that sets it apart, or a lead quite as mesmerising as Win, in, um, Win.. Nonetheless, as with all of Cobenโs work, it is intensely readable. There is something about Cobenโs plottingโฆ I think I need to patent the phrase simplex, when it comes to book reviewing, at least. Decision Mathematics did get there first, but simplex, short for simple-but-complex โ yes, I know complex-but-simple makes a little more sense, but โcompleโ is a rubbish world โ is the word weโll go with. A plot with many strands that nonetheless never loses the reader. There are so many books that try to juggle multiple plot points but end up just confusing the reader, that this is like a breath of fresh air.
At the end of the day, this is a good story, well told, with characters that you will want to spend time with โ although the quirky FBI agents were a bit trying at times โ and a satisfying story with a clear beginning, middle and end. A highly entertaining read โ although, mystery fans, itโs a what-is-going-on rather than whodunnit. Regardless, this is well worth your time.
I Will Find You is out on March 16th from Penguin, in hardback and ebook. Many thanks for the review e-copy.
Thank you so much for the ARC. The story started off really well. David is serving a prison sentence for killing his son which he has always protested against.
Then one day his sister in law visits him in prison to show him a picture of his son, presumably still alive.
David has to go and find out the truth so an elaborate plan is hatched for his escape.
I found this a bit of a slow burner. Too much time was spent on David breaking out of prison, nearly half the book in fact. And it all seemed a bit far fetched. Then things started getting repetitive and the momentum just wasnโt there. Iโm afraid I didnโt finish it. There was nothing motivating me to read on. I also didnโt really like the two investigators who seemed to be prominent throughout. A good premise just not very well executed
Another great, fast paced read from Harlan Coben but a bit unbelievable/far fetched at times.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
Five years ago, David Burroughs was jailed for murdering his three-year-old son. So who is the eight-year-old lookalike caught in a snapshot? His son? Surely impossible, just a coincidence. It canโt be Matthew! The evidence at Davidโs trial had been compelling, The dead boy had been beaten to death, his head an unrecognisable pulp, in Matthewโs bed, wearing his pyjamas, in the room next to that in which David had been sleeping off another drunken evening. The murder weapon was Davidโs baseball bat, which a witness had seen him bury in the nearby woods. It was considered likely that David had had a blackout followed by amnesia, but that mitigation could not dilute the crime and the life sentence it carried. The boyโs image had been spotted by Davidโs sister in law, Rachel, in the background of a friendโs photograph so there was no way of identifying him. In order to investigate, David manages, with help, to escape from prison. Teamed up with Rachel, a journalist, he begins to traverse the North East USA, from Maine to New York and New Jersey, searching for answers to the most worrying question: If Matthew is alive who took him and then organised the evidence to point to him? Chasing him are a pair of laconic, even comedic, FBI agents, Max and Sarah, dedicated to finding him and arresting him, but also intrigued by his motive. After all people who escape from prison try as hard as possible to slip beneath the radar and flee the jurisdiction, whereas David is popping up all over the area.
This is a fairly standard police chase story โ man on the run followed by dedicated officers. However, it is not conventional in its plot. The initial premise is unusual, the chase is complicated by his erratic movements, and the people he talks to, directly or indirectly, who โdirectโ those movements; elderly widows, old friends, criminal masterminds, international multimillionaires . . . The story is also brightened by Max and Sarah, a great invention that I wouldnโt mind seeing again. Coben is, of course, a highly experienced writer, and the style and pace of the story pulls you along at such a rate that you have little opportunity to spot and wonder about the outrageous (in the sense of both โfar-fetchedโ and โflamboyantโ) plot twists and turns. A thoroughly entertaining romp.
I would like to thank NetGalley, the publishers and the author for providing me with a draft proof copy for the purpose of this review.
I was in the mood for a high-octane tale and this book delivered! Rated as 4 stars rather than 5 only because the plausibility was stretched a bit at times. However, I donโt read this type of novel for plausibility, I read it for the thrill of the chase.
Our main protagonist has been in prison for some years after being convicted of killing his son in a ferocious attack.
You know from the outset that he has no memory of the attack and a chance encounter leads his sister in law to visit him in jail. All sorts of mayhem ensues and the pages flipped faster and faster as the story unravels.
Maybe I did guess most of it in the end, but definitely not all and I think it an ingenious plot. Iโm definitely going to read the back catalogue now after reading the two latest offerings through Netgalley. My thanks to them, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this in advance of publication. As always, the fact that I received this free of charge in no way influences my opinion.
Another great read by Harlan Coben.
A father has killed his 3 year old son but has no memory of doing it.
A fast past story that is gripping from the start.
Loved it

From the very first line I was sucked in. Full of adrenaline I tried to squeeze in a chapter whenever I could. I was so invested into the story. I fully connected with the characters, good and bad. It was intriguing even though I could see the ending coming a mile out. I was rooting for it. Hoping for it to be true. A super quick and enjoyable read!

A new book by Harlan Coben is always a treat, although this one was more unbelievable than most. Fortunately though, the cliffhanger chapter endings and his style of writing kept me reading until the end
