Oh boy, this was such a great read. Twisty, quite sad and with a thriller vibe going through it. I’ve read Harlan’s books before and I intend to read more in the future. I’m glad to say that this book does have a happy ending which I wasn’t sure if would have. The part of the book about the prison was so well written and I was really rushing through those bits. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
A fast moving plot, if not a little unrealistic at times, that will keep you totally absorbed
David Burroughs has been imprisoned for the murder of his three year old son Mathew. Rather predictably says he didn’t do it but the evidence was overwhelming. Five years until his sentence he is visited by his sister in law Rachel, who has a recent picture of a young boy who she is convinced is the murdered boy.
This starts a whole chain of events - David has almost given up on life but is now determined to expose the truth, he must find a way to escape and find his son
lots to keep you engaged here with a few twists along the way. A worthwhile read
This is a high octane, almost ‘made for tv’ thriller about a man accused of murdering his son, something he’s come to believe himself, until his ex sister in law brings a photograph to him in prison and it changes everything.
What follows is a page turner, but, you really have to suspend belief. I’m a great fan of this author and to be honest only stuck with it out of respect for his writing and a trust that all would come right, which it sort of does.
Overall, a good read, just, definitely not up there with his best.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for the opportunity to preview.
A father jailed for the brutal murder of his 3 year old son, Matthew, that he has no recollection of. His wife Cheryl divorces him and starts a new life and new family. David settles in prison for what he believes is a well deserved life sentence but 5 years in his life turns upside down once again with one visitor, his sister in law Rachel, who shows him a recent photograph. Maybe his son isn't dead after all. A gripping page turner from start to finish
I am usually a fan of Harlan Coben and his skilful suspense novels but the only thing suspended in I Will Find You was my disbelief! The storyline was totally ridiculous and the two cops were more like slapstick comedians and yet, such is Coben's skill, this was still a readable book.
Literally the pages turned themselves from start to finish. Could not put it down. Instantly drawn into the characters from the first chapter. Watched a few Coben dramas on Netflix and something gets a little lost from page to screen. But in book terms as good as ever - was wondering immediately how this guy (who seems very normal/level headed/passive) could possibly be in jail for killing his own son - but he believes he didn’t do it and the roller coaster starts when he breaks out of the jail to try and prove his innocence…
As is usual with a Harlan Coben novel, it's twist upon twist, non-stop surprises, full of both suspense and heart. He's reliably excellent, book after book.
This was a cracking read. David is in prison for killing his young son but he swears he didn't do it. He breaks out of prison and then is on the run to solve the mystery of is his son actually alive. I liked the cat and mouse chase as he is only just ahead of the FBI agents who are on his rail.
David Baskin thinks that he has it all. A beautiful house in the suburbs, happily married to Cheryl, a wonderful three-year-old son, Matthew. Then he wakes one morning to find himself covered in blood - his sons. When his son is found beaten to death in bed, all evidence points to David. Despite how it looks, David is sure he did not do it, but starts to doubt himself. The evidence puts him in jail for life. He refuses visits from anyone, sickened by what has happened.
Then, five years into his incarceration his sister-in-law makes a surprise visit. She brings with her a photo of Matthew, taken recently, and with an unknown man. David decides his only option is to escape prison and find the truth.
Harlen Coben always delivers on a read you simply can’t put down, and this was no exception to that. Despite having to suspend our beliefs (escaping prison rather than calling your lawyer?!) we are brought along on a page-turning adventure that brings us from one unexpected place to another. The drama and tension build fast, and David will do anything he has to do in order to find his son, and uncover the truth. He is a man that has gone from passively accepting his fate, to burning with the desire to find his son and seek revenge from whomever took his son, and the last five years of his life from him. As always, Coben delivers another fast-paced gripping read.
*I received this copy from NetGalley for review, but all opinions are my own.
Sometimes we use the term page turner too lightly. I Will Find You is a fast paced, roller coaster ride of a thriller that has tension pouring from every page. David Burroughs is in a maximum security prison for the murder of his young son. David found him beaten to death in his own bed when he should have been looking after him. Lack of evidence supporting the presence of another person, lead the police to charge him and so his life sentence began. Even those closest to him began to have their doubts as to his innocence. David, meanwhile accepted his fate wondering if he could have killed his beloved son while sleepwalking and even if he didn’t he felt he had let him down by not protecting him. Five years pass without any contact with his family but one day he has a visitor and what they tell him begins a chain of events that begin a desperate search that has lives at stake and others left in utter turmoil and terror. Harlan Coben has produced yet another masterpiece of a novel that will genuinely have you reading long into the night.
Serving a life sentence for killing his son David's sister-in-law visits him an shows him a photo, this leads him to escape. Plenty of twists and turn to make your head spin. Good plot and well drawn characters.
I received this book from Random House UK, Cornerstone and Netgalley for a review.
Wow, what a book! I raced through this in a day. It had me on the edge of my seat desperate to see how the story would end. So much suspense! Disturbing in parts but absolutely brilliant. I’ll be recommending this book to everyone.
Thank you NetGalley for the advance copy.
Harlan Coben is a master storyteller and I’ve always loved his books. They are easy to read, engaging and you like the main characters. I’m a huge fan of his Myron Bolitar and Win series.
This is the story of a man in prison for killing his son, apparently while in a fugue state. It’s a violent crime against a young boy so he is housed in a separate part of the prison. He, of course, says he didn’t do it and while his family and friends don’t believe he deliberately murdered his son, they largely come to believe that he must have done it while in some sort of black out of sleep state. He and his wife are now divorced and his wife is in another relationship. Their marriage was creaking before the murder and doesn’t survive it.
Of course you believe that he must somehow be right and when his sister in law turns up to visit with some surprising information, the story really takes off. I have to be honest here and say some of the plot and some of the coincidences are stretching credibility somewhat but it all rolls along so well, you don’t really care. You get caught up entirely in the who, why and what’s going to happen next.
I enjoyed the book and the story. I don’t think it’s one of his best but I don’t doubt his next book will be eagerly awaited by me and I’ll look forward to reading it just as much. They are sheer entertainment, with enough twists to keep you guessing and keep you hooked.
You can’t really go wrong with a Harlan Coben, he always manages to get it right!!!
David has served 5 years of a life sentence for murdering his 3 year old son, a crime he can’t believe he was capable of but, the evidence was damming.
He is unexpectedly visited by his ex sister in law Rachel, who shows him a photo of a boy taken recently, that resembles his son. This piece of evidence could prove his innocence and so he (rather unbelievably) escapes prison and goes on the run to prove his innocence. There are elements of “Double Jeopardy” and “The Fugitive” in this novel. I’m sure “I will find you” will also be on Netflix in the near future and I look forward to watching the adaptation 📚🎬
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone, Century for the opportunity to read and review this action packed novel.
There is lots of action in this thriller, but be prepared to suspend your beliefs more than a little bit!!
David Burroughs is five years into a life sentence for killing his three year old son Matthew, a crime that he doesn't recall and is certain, in his own mind, that he didn't commit. When he receives a visit from Rachel, his ex wife's sister, with photographic evidence that his son is still very much alive, he knows he has to escape from prison to uncover the truth about what really happened on that fateful night and find Matthew.
I Will Find You is told from the perspective of David who, up to this point, has kind of accepted his fate, that he killed his son, and at the same time a part of him has died too, but the arrival of Rachel with her news has him thinking that he is innocent after all. This is an action packed thriller with a rather crackpot concept which goes from the sublime to the ridiculous at times, but in a good way, and I was rooting for David to prove his innocence, I just didn't know how he'd do it, then enters Max and Sarah, two Special FBI Agents and I felt I'd stepped onto the stage with a pair of slightly annoying comedians! Casting them aside though it's an enjoyable fast paced read, with some great twists along the way and I read it in less than a day. This was just what I needed after my last read, which blew my mind, and not in a good way!
I'd like to thank Random House UK, Cornerstone and Netgalley for the approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.
Thank you for NetGalley for providing me with this book for review. An action pack rollercoaster of a read, great stuff!
I have to be honest, I almost gave up with this one. A few reviews said that it was fine if you suspended your disbelief but I wasn't prepared for how suspended it would have to be. It nearly lost me twice but I kept going solely because of the author whom I usually love.
I feel like us knowing Matthew's fate from fairly early on took all of the tension out. That should have been hidden until the discovery in the photo really late on. Just have certain other characters as supporting/friends to David and/or Rachel. Have us unknowing whether it was really Matthew. Have us question David.
Instead we just knew everything if not the full details.
I read it all, but it was almost cringingly unbelievable at times and, now knowing the ending, I regret not giving up when I thought to.
This is another great book from Harlan Coben.
David is in prison charged with the murder of his son. He knows he is innocent but as his son is dead, he feels like he has nothing to live for.
His sister in law, Rachel, arranges to visit him five years later and she has some shocking news. She has a photo that was taken recently, and there’s a child that looks like David’s son, Matthew there.
David finds it hard to believe but needs to know if it’s true.
With some help he escapes prison and the hunt begins to find his son.
This is a fast paced thriller that I really enjoyed, however, you do have to suspend belief at times especially with the prison escape.
A great read.
Thanks to Random House UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
