I think it's not a perfect book but it was quite entertaining even if it required some suspension of belief.
A gripping and entertaining story, a mother in law from hell that I found hilarious, a woman too weak to react but who seems to have it all.
The author did a good job in delivering a twisty and fast paced story. I wasn't a fan of Helena but the story surprised me till the end.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
I love a good revenge story, and her sweet revenge really scratched that itch for me
Fun written and very thrilling to read!
What a waste of time!
I really really disliked this book!
I couldn't get into it straight away, but decided to stick with it anyway - but wish I hadn't. The plot was boring, the characters were incredibly one dimensional and unlikeable (I'm surprised this book was written by a woman, as the women characters were just so robotic - never thought a woman could write about another woman like that!)
Just couldn't enjoy this - do not recommend.
What a fantastic book. I didn’t see the twists and turns coming - Sarah Bonner has done it again. I really enjoyed reading all of the characters’ different perspectives on the story. Helena, Thea and Katie’s were so well thought out and I really really enjoyed it.
Thank you to #Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read #HerSweetRevenge
II loved Sarah Bonner's first book so it was always going to be a hard act to follow, For me, 'Her Sweet Revenge was a story of two halves- it started slow for me and I found Helena, one of the lead characters, quite irritating to read about, bumbling about in her rich lifestyle oversharing her secrets with anyone who gave her the time of day- honestly, I just wanted to reach in and shush her! And her nickname - H-Bear, urgh (sorry if its anyone's real-life nickname!)
But then, bam, the pace picked up and my jaw dropped to the floor as twist after twist charged through. Well worth sticking with for all of the revelations coming your way
Got to say firstly the wicked Mum In Law is taken to a whole new level in this book, what a fantastic character to read and to love to hate, she really is shocking, her son, Edward in comparison so weak and wishy washy and quite how Helena ( main character ) tolerated him I don't know!
So the book is full of characters as above who evoke strong emotions while reading, that is good but the problem I had was I found the storyline confusing at times and had to keep re reading to see who was where when and with who etc
That aside it is a twisty tale and ai really like the authors ability to pick up on mundane daily thoughts/ feelings/ observations we all have and acknowledge them and make them interesting and worthy of reading about
Revenge is definitely better served sweet! This was a good read and enjoyed the storyline. Enjoyed this debut novel! Look forward to reading more by this author.
Revenge served straight up no chaser! Toxic mother in law, dead bestie, amateur sleuthing, the rich are not like us, it’s all here. A solid thriller that improves upon the promise shown in Ms Bonner’s debut, this one was so much fun it makes this author an auto-read! Five twisty stars.
Rollercoaster Ride…
Revenge is sweet - so they say - and it is also best served cold. Stone cold. In this engaging and immersive suspense the reader is pulled into a tale of bittersweet revenge - but is everything as it seems? Perhaps not. With a cast of well crafted characters, a twisting and turning tension fuelled plot peppered with red herrings the reader is taken on a rollercoaster ride right up to the, perhaps, unexpected denouement. Gloriously entertaining.
If you’re looking for a tense, thriller of a book. A book that will get its hooks into you from page one and that has more twists and turns than you can shake a stick at then this book is for you. Brilliantly written, I couldn’t put it down and it kept me entertained from start to finish. Thank you to NetGalley, Hodder & Stoughton and the author for the chance to review.
Just 3 stars
2018. Helena is beautiful, successful and happily married to Edward but unfortunately she’s saddled with the mother in law from hell. She seems to have the perfect life so why has she been receiving postcards threatening to reveal her secrets? What can she possibly have to pay for?
In 2022, Thea returns to the U.K. determined to seek ‘sweet revenge’ for her best friend’s murder which the authorities deem an accident. How can Thea prove it is indeed murder and make the culprit(s) pay? The story is told in dual timelines and from several points of view.
Having really enjoyed Sarah Bonners debut novel I eagerly anticipate this but in my opinion this latest book is not in the same league. However, the premise is intriguing and for the first 50% or so it holds my interest. The dysfunction of Helena’s husbands family is entertaining although on occasions the portrayal of mother in law Geraldine strays into caricature. In any event, if I’d met her before marrying Edward I’d have run a mile! Thea is a good character, she’s got plenty of backbone but sadly the same can’t be said for Helena. She drives me mad as she’s so weak and I’m desperate for her to retaliate!
In the second half although the twists come thick and fast some aspects of the plot make my eyes roll as they make little sense to me and as for the ending- just no. It’s so far fetched my jaw drops for all the wrong reasons.
I’m probably going to be on outlier island with this one so be sure to check other reviews.
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Hodder and Stoughton for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
Having read and enjoyed Her Perfect Twin by Sarah Bonner, I was delighted to receive an advance copy of Her Sweet Revenge. This twisty story is out in April and I recommend it if you’re looking for a real page turner that will keep you guessing!
Helena is a successful businesswoman in her own right and married to Edward. Edward’s family own a private members club and appear to be very wealthy. Geraldine is the mother in law from hell and doesn’t miss an opportunity to be cruel to Helena, while having her son wrapped around her finger. Helena befriends Ella and she’s a shoulder to cry on as Helena’s best friend, Thea, lives abroad. When Helena dies in an apparent accident, not everyone is convinced of the circumstances.
It’s difficult to say much about the plot without giving a lot away. I read the first half of this in an afternoon as I couldn’t put it down. I got into the story straight away. The chapters are a good length and keep the story well paced. The timelines switch between 2018 and 2022, before and after Helena’s death. The other half of the book took me a few days to finish as life got in the way. I think this book is best read when you have the time to lose yourself in the story. I found that because I was only able to read little chunks at a time I had forgotten some of the details mentioned before.
The characters in this are a real mix of baddies you love to hate and others you root for. The main characters are well developed, but much more complex than they first appear.
There’s a lot going on in this book and the latter part is a really twisty web with plenty of 😱 moments and double crossing! It felt a little far fetched at times but I still really enjoyed the story.
I would recommend this book and I think it would make a great holiday read, it’s definitely a page turner and if I could have read it in a day I would have.
I’m already looking forward to reading more from this author.
Many thanks to Hodder & Stoughton and NetGalley for my copy to review.
OMG. This book!!! Sarah Bonner has really excelled herself with an utterly fantastic psychological thriller! I am seriously in awe of this author's talent! So many twists!! - Life being what it is, I wasn't able to afford myself the luxury of being able to read this spectacular book in one sitting, as such I absolutely couldn't wait to feast upon it at every possible opportunity!
The book is written largely (though not exclusively), in 2 consecutive timelines., and from multiple perspectives. The first half of the book is mainly told from the perspective of Helena, a woman who has married into a wealthy family. Helena harbours a secret. The magnitude of the secret could end her marriage, and in a chain of unfortunate events, she is blackmailed to keep her secret. The second timeline comes from her friend, Thea, who is desperate to avenge Helenas death.
We meet a series of unsavoury characters as this novel unfolds. I really do not want to spoil this read so I won't say more other than that I seriously can not see anyone not liking this book, while I personally cannot waiit to read the next offering from this author!! this is undoubtedly a 5 star read.
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.
My Sweet Revenge - Sarah Bonner
I really enjoyed Her Perfect Twin so was eager to read this.
Starting off with chapters from two of the main characters' perspectives, Helena in 2018, Thea in 2022. We learn very early on that Helena died in the intervening period, Thea is determined to find out the truth.
I found it a little slow to get started, but it picks up pace and suddenly comes alive. I wished for more pace early on, as the complexity of the twisting and unpredictable plot would be better served if read quickly.
I enjoyed the second half much more. Expect a lot of twists.
A big part of the plot I saw coming, but there are a lot of twists and some very nice details. I liked parts of the story being repeated told from very different perspectives.
Not bad at all.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton
Another fabulous novel by the author!
Helena is a beautiful, successful woman living in married bliss but she is hiding a dangerous secret. Notes begin to arrive suggesting someone knows what it is and this could ruin her whole life. Years later, Thea is still coming to terms with Helena's death and begins digging into the details of her 'accident'. She has a feeling Helena's death wasn't an accident and if it was murder, then she wants revenge. Except someone wants her to leave it alone and she also begins to get notes warning her away.
What a clever, twisted suspense! I often describe books as suspenseful but this book takes that meaning to a whole new level. I could not put it down. It was filled with a bunch of truly unlikeable and devious characters and while I did predict one small twist in the story, with other details I was way off. Another wonderful novel by the author.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for this gifted review copy.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I thought it was a really good read.
It’s very clever and super twisty; the turns just kept coming with each chapter.
My only negative would be that I didn’t find that some of the book flowed as well as it could. The plot is complex and I found myself revisiting some of the book to confirm understanding.
I’d recommend to anyone who likes a clever psychological thriller.

Awesome.
Helena is beautiful, successful, and living in married bliss in Exeter. But she's hiding a secret that could tear her perfect life apart. When the notes begin to arrive, she realises someone else must know her secret. But what might her husband and his overbearing family do if they find out the truth? Thea is reeling from her best friend Helena's death. But when she starts digging into the circumstances, she receives a threatening note warning her to stop. She knows her friend's death wasn't an accident. This was murder. And she is determined to get revenge .
I really loved this book. Looking for more from this author.
Thanks to NetGalley and Hachette UK for giving me an advance copy.
A twisty thriller which will keep you guessing until the very end.
Fast paced and i flew through this read.
Many thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
Couldn't put this one down and couldn't read it fast enough! It's actually a really tough book to review without giving away the plot - which is twistier than a curly-wurly - and I don't want to spoil it so I'm going to keep this vague...
I adored Sarah Bonner's debut - Her Perfect Twin - so I was really looking forward to see what else she can do and I wasn't disappointed. This is a revenge story, but who is after revenge on who? You'll be asking that question right up until the epilogue.
The novel is ambitious covering a time period of four years and five different POVs, but Bonner totally pulls it off. The writing is compelling and the twists just keep coming, I'm not exaggerating when I say I that. Once you've stopped reeling from one, another comes along and knocks you back down again.
There's potential for a sequel here and I really hope there is one. Totally recommend if you enjoyed Her Perfect Twin and if you like twisty, psychological thrillers that keep you guessing until the very last word.
I absolutely loved the author's debut novel Her Perfect Twin which was a twisty and original thriller and so had high hopes for Her Sweet Revenge, the follow up. Sadly I found this to be a disappointing read and it felt like it was written by a completely different author.
Helena and Thea are best friends who met at boarding school. In 2018 Helena is married and has a monstrous and controlling mother in law when she begins to receive anonymous notes threatening to reveal her secrets. Four years later and Thea is grieving the death of her best friend Helena and when she begins to look into the circumstances of her death the anonymous notes start to arrive.
The novel started off well and I was intrigued by the relationship between Helena, her husband Edward and her mother in law. However, increasingly the novel lost its flow, the plot became ludicrous, the various strands of the plot did not fit together and I feel that the whole thing needed editing.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.
